  1. Damned .... skewers on the site for sale are R110.00 more than another local bike shop site.....
  2. Components can be replaced in time a they wear out....getting the right frame is the first and most important aspect. Try and find two of these bikes and give them a quick spin to get a feel for the bikes
  3. Good luck with this exercise. You would be amazed at how much better your bike will handle proper single track with a good fork. A good fork would also be lighter than your current one. This will become very apparent when boosting up tge front end to clear obstacles on the trail. If you are going to buy both a new wheelset and fork, might I suggest a through axel type set up for the fork as this will stiffen up the front end nicely. This given that you say you are more trail orientated should serve you well. H
  4. So would the term "chill in your panties" not be regaeded as having sexist connotations....just pointing this out Dale.
  5. Hi there At 76 kg you can get away with a lighter wheelset that can still take abuse. That fork need s to go though as you can make a fair weight saving there whilst also getting a better performing shock at the same time. SLX crank is a good weight to strength ratio with the remainder of the SLX groupset being tough, reliable and efficient. Again at a respectable weight. Unless you have a decent amount of spare cash lying about I would leave the SLX as is and replace parts when they wear out. So a better fork will be lighter and give better trail feed back/control. Better wheels will be lighter and stiffer if you buy wisely. Consult your LBS re this and also explain your riding style. Good Luck and take pictures if you upgrade. Hairy
  6. That has a rather nice ring to it ... but you would still get a few guys entering on the pretext that they wear heels
  7. Hi Eldron ... I actually agree with you. Even though my post did not clearly say this.
  8. http://twentynineinches.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/on-one-tires.jpg On One Tires: Most of you know all about On One frames and components, but On One hopes you will also soon be thinking about tires, (or are they tyres?), when you see their logo. On One’s own Brant Richards and Don “Shiggy” Person have been quietly designing and prototyping tires with Maxxis as the manufacturer for a bit now. The first model to be properly shown off is this one called the “Smorgasbord”, which is a 2.25″er here, but plans are afoot for wider 2.4″ tires as well. http://twentynineinches.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/on-one-tiretread-150x150.jpgA look at the tread shows an aggressive, trail type of look with a lot of sculpting and angles to grip terrain with. Word is that On One will be doing several types of tires for 26″ and 29″ers. Rumor has it that one of these models, described as a “voluminous casing for rigid riding” sounds especially appealing. Stay tuned for details as we get them. (Note: Images courtesy of Shedfire.com)
  9. Without starting a fight on this thread, but why can there not be a men only event. Especially as you have noted there are female specific events, insurance companies, etc and then these are applauded. Have we come to a point where is it no longer PC to be men and want a men's only event. I sure hope not. grammar edit!

  11. @pronutro ... skip this "wish wash talk" RE gear selection, as this is useless without a pic of the SS Where do you usually ride and what ratio have you been using?
  12. Nice, but you are a CT boy .... how will those wheels handle side winds?
  13. That goodie bag needs a 2 month old cycling magazine to be complete
  14. Might be keen to join you next week, you are also more than welcome to join our Wednesday morning rides from Rhodes Mem (we pick the CT group at the CTICC)
  15. on 26'ers ... neanderthals Good on you that you both SS!
  16. That rear hub/axel configuration is pure bike porn!!!!
  17. That tattoo is spooky without the eyes inked in!
  18. I ride a 32x21t on a 29'er on Table Mountain as the legs still need to HTFU for SS'ing A while ago when I had my last SS it was a 32x16t on a 26'er ...
  19. Changed the BMX chain over to a 9spd chain last night and the ride is so much quieter. I have a std 9spd blade up front with a rear cog and the BMX chain tended to wander on this set up and make a silly noise. Let's see how this lasts
  20. hell no some big rider bent the top tube .... don't make bikes like they used to hey!
