  1. morning all, So I've been riding MTB for over a year now and road for a few months. Im 26 so I work out that I should have a max HR of 194. However when Im training or racing I cant seem to get past 175/180 and at those levels I feel like Im going full out. My resting heart rate is about 52 - 60 on any given day, and Im not overweight. Does anyone have any ideas??? Thank u
  2. does anyone know who took the pic of us meer mortals?
  3. At the end of the day we all a bunch a rookies anyway? Buy the lightest that you can afford, and that makes sense given the amount of riding you do. Shimano 105 is the same as Dura Ace, just abit heavier. Case closed.
  4. I was looking at getting a giant anthem. Decided against it for the time being. But after reading that post I think Im glad I decided against it. Gees 4 frames?? Thats hectic!!!
  5. Im beginning to think that Tour/Race proven is the way to go. Merida is definately race proven as far as MTB goes. Also, value for money, you cant touch it!!! Just not sure im mad about that magura upfront!
  6. tighten the headset cap first and then the stem bolts Had the same prob on my mtb. First u have to tighten the headset cap to pull it up and make it tight Then then ones to secure it to the stem I did the above and it worked for me!
  7. The groupset is expensive, dont get wrong. But its not so much more than say sramX0 and Xtr. The one thing i cant understand though is how a cassette can cost R3,5k. That blows my mind. If I got it I would never ride in mud!
  8. Not sure if this is a hijack. But could someone run through the process to remove and grease a crankset and BB. Mine is squeaking abit and I wanna do it myself and not take it to the LBS. Also is it safe to do it myself on a carbon frame?
  9. Its a trunk rack. You can get them at cycle lab, but the distibutor is bicycle power trading. Look no further than saris, trust me. When you get one PM me and Ill tell you how to make your bike thief proof.
  10. Saris bones 2/3, depending on how many bikes u want to carry. Case closed.
  11. Ok, so i removed and cleaned the pedals, greased with q20 which Im told is a no go, so ill get some proper grease this week. Now, as far as I understand, this is how to remove the crank and BB (shimano hollowtech). 1. Loosen the bolts on the no drive side crank and remove the crank arm 2. Use a mallet to knock the crank out on the drive side 3. Using the appropriate tool, remove the non drive side of the BB 4. Now remove the drive side of the BB 5. Clean and grease the threads 6. Reinstall the BB, drive side first 7. Clean and grease the crank and inside of the BB 8. Push the crank through and put on the non drive side crank arm Last question, is it imperative to have a torque wrench to tighten the bolts n the non drive side crank arm?
  12. my phsyio told me its better to stretch once warm and the blood is flowing.
  13. I have a polar F6. My question is when I stop exercising, say to change a tube, and I move away from the unit (which is on my handlebar), it loses my hearbeat. It continues to time me until I stop it, just without the hearbeat value. So how do I get it to re-pick up me heart rate once it loses it for a period of time. Ive tried pausing the workout and then pushing continue but it does'nt work. Any ideas?
  14. I paid R9k for a brand new one. Its the blue one, 2008 with shimano STI's and deralieurs. But the one in your pic is the LTD. Mine is the normal peleton. Got 105 crank and brakes from a good mate who had some lying around. Bought a selle italia and mavic ksyrium elites for R5,5. So all in all R14,5k for a full carbon 105 bike.
  15. I hear Simon, and it must have sucked to be in his shoes of late due to all the nonsense thats been going on at NF. BUT...... Surely as a paying customer (which is what cyclists are to northern farm) you deserve a certain level of security and overall services. Dont get me wrong, we do need volunteers, but its not like the spruit where we depend on municipality to get things done. NF is a private business which is making good money off cyclists. It just feels like its their responsibility. There are other factors obviously, and overall I think volunteers would be a great idea. My 2 cents
  16. heres a question for the techies! How does the seeding work? Is it based on average speed or is it based on what time you clocked compared to the winning time?
  17. I emailed Wynand from cyclingnews to find out what the story is RE the distance and Racetec. His response was that they would update accordingly. What a good oke, second time he has gotten back to me with an informative answer! Good on him!
  18. no cadence............unfortunately
  19. To be honest, no I have'nt washed it yet. Ill try removing and cleaning/greasing up the pedals. Next up will be removing the crank to clean it and grease it. The click only happens under load.
  20. Thanks mutt. Any other suggestions?
  21. 16 views and no response? comon guys, just a wee bit of advice?
  22. Morning ya'll So yesterday I rode the emperors and noticed that my crank made a funny clicking/grinding type of noise when I got out the saddle to pedal, it sounds like this coming from the crank. Im a bit sick and tired of taking the bike to the LBS every time it needs some QT. So......I wanna try fix this myself. Besides getting the proper tools to remove the crank and BB any pointers as to what I could do to aleviate the problem? Any feedback is appreciated
  23. Its gotten out of hand. But the root cause needs to be determined, IE where do these bikes go? Has no one here been offered a second hand bike from a friend of a friend of a friend that fell off the back of a truck?? Personally I have'nt but there has to be a market for these things. There is a reason they started jacking them. And I dont beleive they all go to mox for R500 bucks. What about carrying pepper spray? I think it would work if the guy had a knife or screwdriver but you cant risk it with a gun, coz he could just pull the trigger. Overall, its all pretty scary and Im def moving to the cape next year!
