  1. Makes me wonder why okes are searching for balls the the hub and reviving a 6 year old thread.
  2. Marcel Kittel's old Giant/Alpacin team, I had no idea what Alpacin is or what they did. How many people on TheHub do? Turns out they make shampoo, saw in the shops the other day. I had no clue. Regarding RECM, they handle money and investments I think?
  3. Professional cycling is a business, not sport. Riders are race horses decorated with logos and slogans. A billboard on wheels. Went to watch the TdF in 2013 and when you are there it hits home how the cycling plays such a small part. An hour before the riders come past, the sponsors convoy comes past where they throw freebies and other products at you, trying to get you to start buying their products. This takes the better part of half an hour. Then the bunch of riders comes past, 30 seconds, gone. Factoring in the RC doping thing this past week, you know what I'm glad I'm not at that level. I don't want the pressure of having to be in top (doped) shape or else I might loose my spot in the billboard train. I don't want to be the race horse with logos on my back. I race my MTB and do well every now and then in local MTB races, and I've actually decided that I'm happy where I am. I don't want the life of a Pro.
  4. Raced against Greg in Sabie around 15 years ago, dual slalom on the hill just as you drop into town.
  5. Ran my first pure road marathon on Saturday. Have done 2x Ironman and 3x Addo 75km runs, but this was 1st purely road race. Managed 3h39m (11.6km/h average). Not super fast time but having hoped for a Sub 4, I was pretty chuffed.
  6. I'm from PE. Owned a 1994 Hahanna. After folding the downtube behind the head tube, having it repaired by Jan Ellis and then folding it again, I tossed the frame. Still have most of the components though. P2 fork and stem High Command brake levers etc. "Upgraded" the fork to a Marzocchi Zokes back in the day. Best years of my life.
  7. You can safely just replace some riding sessions with running sessions. Trust me, running will improve your riding, even if you ride less. So, no more time needed. Just run instead of ride. That's my opinion.
  8. Been training actively for running for a month now. Training for the Addo Elephant 100 Miler (160km).The run training and losing a few kilos is paying off. Got a 10.8km route with lots of long drags that I like to nail every so often to see how the fitness is going. Best time I ever got was when I was at my fittest during IM training earlier this year, 51:50 and that still required a big effort. Always thought that if I could break 50 minutes that would be a sign that my running is in good shape. Did it yesterday in 48:16. What is needed to enter Comrades? Funny how running helps cycling but cycling does little for running. Cycle once a week now, and still made it to the top of a local hill 1st on Saturday.
  9. Haven't entered the Comrades yet but will try to. Next challenge for me is the Addo 100 Miler (160km). Offroad trailrun. Basically Comrades x2 in terms of distance, and offroad. Think Comrades a few months later will feel like a breeze in comparison.
  10. Have also tried a few. Even a very light set of XPedos. Wore out in less than a year. Currently riding a set of XTR's that I bought over 10 years ago, almost zero play.

  12. Very close to a Wellgo M250 http://www.orcamart.com/products/wellgo/m250/red3.jpg
  13. CP5, at Komdomo. There was a tent with a table in with a mountain of food. Cokes and Sprites so think it was for the spectators to buy.
  14. No.8 done and dusted. Could have gone better. Flu for 3 weeks leading up to the race with ZERO time in the saddle. Just phlegm and snot, even in the days up to the race. Woke up with sore throat but lined up on the start. Finished just on 14 hours, a few hours slower than previous best time but with only 3 light indoor sessions 3 days before the race, it was always going to be tough. Enjoyed it though, 2 more and my 2nd 5 year shield is done
  15. So your hardest gear would be a 40x11 ? Possibly 10 if you get a XXD driver on there. Not very big gear, is it? Lets see Andrei Greipel break his legs off trying to get that up to sprint speed.
  16. I might be missing the points of this. I've been riding tubeless for about 10 years now, if not mistaken. I can probably count on my two hands the amount of punctures I've had during that time, that the sealant couldn't sort out. I use non-UST tyres as well, that have less protection and still only so many flats. I think out of those 10 flats max, only about 3-4 wouldn't seal and required a tube. And as a semi-weight weenie, 200g per wheel isn't for me.
  17. Not sure they can keep hanging the "Stumpjumper FSR" label on it... I mean the bike is miles, miles different from the original. Give it a new name?
  18. Shock, horror. You saying some big brands also just resell Chinese blanks and then slap stickers on and a 300% markup? Nooooo.

  21. In 2004 the race had 9 different locations. You started at Point A, rode to Point B and slept, departed B and rode to C, etc etc. 9 stop-over/finish locations. In the last few years you start at A, ride a circular route back to A. Sleep and depart from A and ride to B. Sleep at B. Next morning ride a circular route back to B and sleep there again, etc etc. 5 stop-over/finish locations. Am I missing something. The first year the entry fee was like R10500 or so for a team, and logistics in setting up 9 locations must have been hectic. Enter 2015, Entry fee R65000 odd, and they have to prepare only 5 locations for riders. Inflation? Only the organiser's pockets maybe.
  22. Don't give a sjit about the bragging rights or feelgood vibe doing the epic apparently gives you, because thats why people enter if they were honest. That is stupid money. I wont even race it if someone else pays just out of respect for their money. No race it worth that kind of cash.
