  1. Help me with the numbers here.

They process 5 million a day, according to the article. Does he mean 5 million parcels, or Rand value?

If its 5 million parcels, that 5,000,000. There are 86,400 seconds in a day. So are they then processing nearly 58 parcels every second, non stop?

Kinda sounds like a Zuma kind of story promising 500,000 jobs, a lekker thumbsuck number.

  2. try aramex global shopper, been using it since last year and have had no issues at all.

    Delivery 2-4 weeks

My problem with this service is that its a one pay one parcel setup. I mailed them about it. Most of us here often order multiple things from China. I asked if they couldn't "keep items back" until I tell them to release everything to me at once, for one fee even if its is a bit more. I might order 3 items over the course of a week. I'd prefer if they kept me a shelf somewhere and after they received the 3rd item and I let them know, then only ship it to me. They can't do it that way.

  3. Not sure how legit this website is but...

There is no way makro could be flogging these at R4500. Maybe they strip all the decent components off at only allow online purchases so that you are unable to inspect the condition.

You never know. One of my LBS's recently dropped its price on a new Cervelo from like R55k to something like R30k. The profit margins on new bikes are very thick, especially on the top end. Makro might be more interested in moving large quantities at a small margin than bike shops that look for those odd big bike sales.

  4. When I say vent, there is a tiny hole on the outside of either side of the rim that is apparently drilled when they weld the rim allowing the hot air to escape from the welding.

Well that's just stupid then... How can they make a "tubeless" rim... and then leave it with a hole in. Eish.

  5. looks like (google) rim is tubeless so no need for rimtape, but I could be wrong

Agree, does look like no tape needed. So by airvent he could only mean the valve hole. Maybe the valve isn't snugging up tight enough on the inside of the rim. Could remedy that by cranking the locknut a bit more, but sometimes that might not work. Depending on the actual tubeless valve, if the rubber bit was round, I'd drill the rim out ever so slightly so that the valve can "pull into" the rim a tiny bit. Locking it down with the lockring would then be pretty airtight. If the value had a square rubber bit... hmmmm...

  6.

That's what I was wondering. The event in question that prohibited them was Trans Karoo, a few years ago.

I have a set of Cinelli Spinaci bars that I've used lots in the past in MTB races (and I have to admit they've helped me to a few wins as well), but then I saw they were actually banned years prior so they've been shelved since. I would love to use them though. By just going into that semi tuck position you immediately pick up 4-5km/h without pedaling any harder.

  7. My concern is still wether this would be allowed in races.

I've done events before where they've banned all "forward facing" attachments which might give an aero advantage.

I know some GPS mounts etc actually stick out further than this, but no-one holds onto their Garmin mount for an aero advantage.

I don't know the rules, I know the UCI have their math how they work this out. Maybe a track or TT rider knows the rules?

  8. Been sick for 2 weeks now. Scared I may have picked up TB at work. Ffs. At least I'm losing weight. Corenza is giving me so mucch gastritis I hardly eat.

I find when I am sick, you (dug) obviously feel completely kuk. What helps me is having a Monster or Play or Score or some of those caffeine loaded energy drinks. For me, at least, it kinda brings you up from the dumps and makes you feel almost a little normal. So, it isn't to get you from 100% to 130%, its to get you from 70% back to 100%. At least for a few hours.

  9. Been having a great year with illnesses. By that, I actually mean a lack of. Been noticably sick maybe once. Usually I'm down and out at least 5 times a year. And having done quite a few big events I expected to come down with something after these events when the body was knocked. But the colds didn't come.

Can't stress washing your hands and avoiding to touch your face enough. Not that it probably helps much, but I do pop a daily multivit, slowmag, extra vitamin C, and some Omega 3 capsules every day.

Otherwise, try avoid sick people as far as possible. I have no issues sitting at work with a buff over my mouth/nose if someone is sick. Probably doesn't help much to keep the germs out, but it does give me a little bit of confidence.

  10. Advice needed... ride tonight or not.

Man down with a cold last Tuesday. Edit, cold probably brought on by a big weekend on the bike 2 days prior, probably knocking the body too much. Spent two days at home then came back to work but obviously wasn't right.

I'm not 100% yet but feel fine, now a week later. Just hacking up the last of the lovely nastiness at the moment. Nose not really running anymore.

Trans Baviaans is coming up and I'm afraid that I'm going to loose all my gainz if I don't get back on the bike soon.

Face feels sliiiiiiiiiiiiiiightly feverish still, but not that you'd really notice.

Tonight's ride is a super slow 30km road ride on MTBs.

    What would you do?

  11. tks Guys --- these TOPTUBE and MINI FRAME BAGS are great for carrying all sorts of stuff whilst on a ride --- an alternative to ON TOP/TOPTUBE bags as they don't rob you of "real-estate" on the frame and as someone pointed out, make use of an un-utilised frame area on your bike.

check out the below cool pic of our TOPTUBE FRAME BAG being used on a MTB.

the smaller MINI FRAME BAG could carry essentials and fit up at the head tube area as another option.

What kind of bag would you recommend for a Vipa?

  12. Ordered at the end of last week, and it arrived this morning. Couldn't have asked for a better fit and the quality looks spot on. Happiness!

You know, there was a time when the Style Man in me would have gone, oh hell no. How could you do that to a bike. Like riding with bar-ends on a riser bar. But as I get older, I appreciate the function of something much more. This ads massive storage to a "dead" area on a bike that otherwise would have been wasted. Apart from like a Munga (where this would also work wonders combined with more storage), you can pretty much store everything you might need in there for something like a Trans Baviaans.

    I like.

  13. I always take care and avoid riding near the babies - the adults are no doubt very protective

As a kid I was bitten by a mommy baboon for that very reason. I think I was like 8 at the time. Walked up to a mommy and her baby and tried giving the baby something to eat. Next moment I was running back to the car with mommy in hot pursuit. As I jumped into the car she bit my leg. Had to get stitches.

  14. I received my RideFarr jacket yesterday. Got to say I'm extremely chuffed with it. It truly does weigh nothing. You can roll/bundle it up to be the size of a tennisball, actually even a bit smaller. It fits in my hand with my fingers almost being able to close around it.

I think if you are lucky you can even get it into a bankie.

For me personally its always a toss-up between going into an event overdressed or under dressed, knowing you'll have to stop to take off an layer. Or, go in slightly underdressed hoping the ride will warm you up. This is risky, and this cost me last year with what I think was mind hypothermia.

This jacket is basically a 2nd skin, just keeping the wind off you and allowing your body heat to warm yourself, but not overheat you either. And its so small, take if off and easily put it in a back pocket.

    Best purchase in a while...
