  1. Having recently got into trail running, I've constantly got blisters on ends of my 2 long toes. Any advice, or just keep going and work on the calluses?
  2. Meanwhile, in Australia:
  3. I don't know if this is correct, but for climbs I put my toes in line with the front of the pedal, figures it gives me extra leverage through pedal stroke?) For descents I put my feet more squarely on the pedals, for stability. But really its more of a comfort thing..
  4. Free riders + saints here. Great combo. When they were shiny new was even wearing them to work "breaking them in". Super comfy.
  5. I got mine online, on sale at CRC. Got 20% tax on arrival, but worked out cheaper than buying here still AND got better choice in colours They seem to be expensive locally, but they're a good investment. City Rock have online store, but no 5-10s currently available: https://www.mountainmailorder.co.za/index.php?_a=viewCat&catId=283
  6. Well I guess if they just drive everywhere they will stay wider than the rider
  7. Jonkershoek, above the flow trail and part of the double black diamond run I think.
  8. Sweet. You might just have another addition to the 5.10s and Saints club..
  9. Need to upgrade my flats actually: Crank Brothers 5050s or just go the Saints?
  10. I got caught in the rain the other day and my 5.10s filled up like buckets. I guess thats one downside, the Freeriders (at least) are like sponges.

  12. Rode Fish Eagle yesterday, fantastic addition. In combination with short purple makes for ideal quick ride from Stellenbosch. Excellent work on the trail and looking forward to it getting a bit more compacted, nearly lost my front wheel from under me at one point!
  13. Is it OK to ride this Friday afternoon or will the race setup be happening?
  14. Ahh, I see now, its on the return side of yellow.
  15. I headed up on Friday. I think I rode straight past the new single track on yellow. Is it a sharp climb to the left of the trail just before you ride alongside the dam? Didn't realise until after, no idea how. Anyway, enjoyed the reroute of purple through the forest section, very fun. Looking forward to the new section up there too that wasn't open yet. Will be more observant next ride and hit that new yellow ST.
  16. Finally shoes arrived! Ordered on 5th Sept. Only had to pay ~20% tax in the end, so still worked out way cheaper than buying locally - just the delay with post strikes only main annoyance.
  17. Awesome, keen to check this out - have neglected old yellow route for a while now and skipped over to Overguaaw entrance to get straight up to red.. If not there tomorrow, will be Sunday.
  18. This.
  19. After you get sick of the circle route the best options for the easy single track are lower canary which is pretty close to gate (both up and down), and then the single track through the recently felled/cleared area up on the right hand side (same climb as for the fire trails, but this links back down to circle route and is bidirectional too) - not sure of name though. never ending story is fun and not too hard either, but its not in best condition at the moment after winter rains and rides pretty bumpy. it also has a resident caracal who is pretty chill.
  20. Ah damn. I'm not used to paying import taxes (not from SA) and just ordered some 5-10 shoes off CRC as they were on special and limited in stock/range in SA. Now possibly regretting it if I'm going to get slugged a tax on top of them.
  21. Oh man, not much riding this weekend it seems
  22. Hah, didn't read this properly last week and went looking for the new ST thinking it was near the other new ST in the forest at the top of the hill after coming in at Overgaauw. So I've gotta ride all the way around red to find it, it seems I don't know how new it is, but that option to loop back on the purple track straight back into forest and do ST again through there is awesome, cheers!
  23. Oh **** me what have I become
  24. Are the 2014 Avid Elixir 7 and 9 Trail brakes available in SA yet? I'm considering as alternative to SLX, but anyone had experience with them? Especially can shed light on any key performance differences between them and ballpark cost? Sorry for hijack, was going to start a new thread but thought this was kinda in same realm as my q's.
  25. Flow EXs are great for the 90+ weight range. I think at that size, we don't really need to worry about a few extra grams on the wheels versus something that is pretty damn strong for when you do get airborne
