  1. Could it be to prevent the axle from undoing during pedaling? No idea honestly
  2. Specialized can do no right in the eyes of the haters on here. Even the support they offer in a time of crisis is despicable Come on guys....let it go just this once will you
  3. Exactly yes! They make less sense in the XC world for the normal bloke but a lot of sense in the Enduro/DH space
  4. This is why: https://youtu.be/jl4E9yMHpro I didn’t think I want one until I rode one. If you’re into mtb’ing for the downhills them this is a game changer.
  5. New year but no closer to being able to purchase a YT bike in SA it seems. Last year I gave up trying to get my hands on the new Jeffsy and this year I was very keen on the Decoy. This article gave me hope that it may well be possible: https://bikenetwork.co.za/top-10-2021-emtbs/ Unfortunately Black Sheep Bikes came back to me yesterday saying that YT cannot provide an eta on when they will start shipping to SA. Frustrating for both us and Black Sheep for sure. I guess we'll just have to keep being patient or ride other bikes for now...meh bummer
  6. Love what they offer: https://www.blackbeardsden.com/
  7. I'll look into the auto-pause suggestion since we do take a break after climbing and before descending
  8. Morning peeps, just curious if there are others who also find the apple watch (gen 2 in my case) GPS very inaccurate and inconsistent when the speed picks up? Below are 4 runs up/down Afterburner (Banhoek). Going up things are fine and tracking nicely but the minute we go down it's all over the show. The blue line is my mate's ride (using a Garmin Fenix 3) and it tracks the trail perfectly and consistently every time. The green is mine and it was so inaccurate that strava did not even pick those segments up at all. I've tried apple's suggestion of ensuring calibration is turned on etc. Is anyone using an apple watch which tracks very accurately compared to other sports watches or do I just accept that apple is not as good as other on this front? Currently I'm just telling myself that I'm simply too fast for it
  9. Current industry trends suggest you'll need a reach of 850mm by 2021 so might as well buy an XXL and stay ahead of the curve
  10. Why does our society have this incessant need to bad-mouth the shop every time they experience poor service from an individual? I hate poor service as much as the next bloke but I always take it up with the shop's management directly. 9 out of 10 times they're going to apologies and attempt to address the problem. Surely, that's a much more constructive and effective approach to tackling poor service than tarnishing their reputation publicly.
  11. Not exactly the same choice but my friend had the Meta AM and Hyrax for weekend. He went with the Meta as he decided he wants an enduro rig so with the suspension travel difference ot wasn’t really a fair fight. I’m a big fan of Pyga but that Commencal sure is a tasty machine as well. Tough one.
  12. Sorry hear about your hard times man, hope it picks up in a big way and soon. Everyone is different and I fully understand how/why some people choose not to have kids. But aside from costing me a fortune my kids have taught me a lot, like being (a little) less selfish and how to negotiate, lol. For me personally, if my kids are the reason I'm unable to ever afford XX1 Eagle I'll consider myself a blessed man.
  13. Agreed, many of us have posted stuff while hot under the collar that might not have been thoughtfully worded but it takes a certain level of maturity to concede to that when the red mist lifts.
  14. I think whether he was running or cycling is immaterial to the discussions taking place since it is relevant to a much wider set of scenarios
  15. If ever I considered carrying a firearm for self defense your post just put that to bed. Thanks for sharing your experience in such a concise and sobering manner. Group rides are probably our best defense.
  16. High setting will definitely help with pedal strikes. I must admit that the number of pedal strikes was also noticeable for me on the Jeffsy but it’s probably to be expected in that setting. The bike I have now has a higher than normal BB which apparently has some drawbacks when cornering but to be honest I notice the absence of pedal strikes much more than I do any loss of cornering abilities
  17. Nope, never bothered with high
  18. Why not just get a full suss? Or would that ruin your yearly warranty claim streak? ????
  19. #5 Specialized Enduro 29 Elite - And yet again....another increase in travel!? I was convinced I would not go for more travel than what the Jeffsy had (140/150) but here we are....and with a brand I never thought I would end up with (simply because I prefer something less common). I had the Jeffsy for 3 years and loved everything about it but then the itch came knocking. I was never planning on an enduro bike at all and still maintain that a trail bike is more than enough for 80% our trails. Soooo, yes this Enduro is complete overkill, both for our trails and my abilities, BUT herewith my reasoning: 1. It is very pretty....and carbon ***ignore this reason 2. My main reason for not wanting an enduro bike was having something that climbs like a dog because I'm not the strongest climber to start with. Either my Jeffsy did not climb too great for a trail bike OR this spez climbs incredibly well for an enduro bike but I honestly find it easier 3. Another reasons for not wanting an enduro bike was dull/slow handling. This 2017 spez is NOT a slack and long bike compared to other enduro bikes by any stretch (*pun) but this is exactly what I like about it. In fact one review described is as more of an extremely long travel trail bike. It is still nimble and playful because of this geometry and that works lekker for my type of riding 4. I got it for a real good deal Anyway, without further adieu here she is: PS, many of you will probably recognize it from about a month ago when it was advertised here on BikeHub
  20. https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/downhill-mountain-bikes/421926/2017-yt-tues-cf-pro-race I don’t have enough hair on my chest to ride this bike but it sure is nice to look at
  21. Yes thanks, well aware. It sold before my mate could get his finances in order. Gotta be quick to catch a Pyga...both on the trails and in the classifieds it seems
  22. Hi all. If anyone is aware of a large 110 for sale please give me a shout. Trying to find one for a friend and no better allrounder at the price in my opinion.
  23. I also bought these for R1500 from Outdoor Escape and love it. Super light for alu pedals (390 grams) and very grippy with 10 pins per side if I remember correctly. I was after something very grippy like Spez Boomslang pedals but those are R2500. So while these are still not cheap it is well worth it in my opinion. Giant might not be known for their pedals but I am really happy with these. PS, I also saw the recalls about these and followed up with Outdoor Escape who assured me these do not fall in the recalled batch
