  1. I wouldn't go from such a cushioned shoe with around 11mm drop and pronation control to a minimal 6mm drop shoe directly unless you are used to shoes in that range or intend to only put it in your rotation for certain runs. Rather try something around 8mm with some cushion.
  2. Thoughts on the Ka-Bar TDI?
  3. Bloed, sweet, snot en amper trane and 8h:38m later I was in. Honestly it was easier than I thought, but I did prepare for it to be mayhem. Nutrition and gear was great. Nice overcast weather but it's so humid in that forest you sweat like a pig any way. Nice and muddy from the rain from the night before meant soft conditions underfoot but you had to be more careful at some sections - only fell once! Only downside was it was weather level 3 so meant carrying a fleece, base layer and waterproof jacket so with all the other stuff my pack was in the 4-5kg range. Filled twice from streams (so awesome!) but it was a dry year so carried more water to be safe, could have saved weight there definitely. Poles - if you do this race train with them, carry them, use them! Saved me from a nasty fall. I used them all the way from after the GU Munchie point and they really helped move the effort to my upper body to an extent vs just legs. I'd still like to hike it, you still have to concentrate so much you don''t see that much especially as I was trying to go sub 8. My moving time was 7:45 so I wasted loads of time but you don't notice that on the run. Was 5 min ahead at Andre (100m climb in 400m to the parking!), 10 min ahead at Bloukrans (lost my Rudy Projects here was VERY p1ssed off) and spent 5 min looking before heading on. 2 min behind at 3h33 at the Munchie but had pushed too hard, the last half is harder on the Retto and from there to Scott and then Ngube took forever. From there the last bit on the rocks I knew sub 8 was out so I just took it easy as you really have to pick a line and scramble and jump etc. and those rocks with the mussels are so sharp you don't want to get it wrong. My recovery after was very good muscle wise (got a bit of a chest infection unfortunately) but my first run a 5k in Moreletakloof a week after that I was so sore I had some Recovery Brew that evening. Have done 3 other runs from then and I'm slowly coming back. Still need to consider if I'm doing it next year. Not cheap! Who else ran?
  4. 2 incidents in Groenkloof - please be careful guys! https://www.facebook.com/groups/134361270058168/permalink/350645395096420/
  5. Also on Techniblock 40 spray and seems good so far. Can anyone recommend a portable sunblock? Considering one for the Otter run. I know they make the roll-ons but do you still need to rub it on your skin? Ideally would like to keep my hands from being full of greasy sunblock.
  6. The ladies in coffee aren't too bad in general it would seem
  7. Thanks that Impress looks cool will have a look. Moka pot is a bit big and heavy for me. I have travelled with one but I tend to fly to events a lot for work and only take a carry on so space and weight are at a premium.
  8. Take it Karambits are also illegal here?
  9. Interesting water dispenser what do you guys think? http://www.metelerkamps.co.za/product/bosch-water-dispenser/ Also anyone had a look at the Bibo before? http://bibo.co.za/pricing-purchase/ Also what would you recommend for a travel coffee kit? Seems a Porlex or Skerton grinder with an Aeropress is the lightest and most compact option? How much PT is it to clean and is it durable? Single cup French press could also be an option. Easy to rinse.
  10. Will chat to Matt was there the other day and picked up a V60 from him.
  11. Very very very nice! Proper knife that.
  12. I meant that they were using them for their pour overs on the coffee stand inside the store, not selling them sorry.
  13. As Vinny says the problem with any type of running injury is that it's usually caused as a reaction to something else that's out of whack; hips, weak glutes etc. So you need to find the route of the ITB problem to sort it out IMO.
  14. Parkview in PTA. Sorry they were actually the Bonivita model, no digital display Hario I know of.
  15. So seeing as I've recently acquired a V60, some pour over tips/articles/videos would be appreciated. Would seem like the spout type kettle is the only way to go with this? Saw some of the digital Hario kettels at Woolies
  16. Oh ja Sun Day IPA smaak soos nog!
  17. Keen to go, how's the pricing there?

  21. For the Retto runners http://www.guenergy.co.za/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=260:otter-training-day-with-gu-salomon&Itemid=3
  22. Enjoying a set of Nike Zoom Wildhorse at the moment, will be my Retto shoe as well. 4mm drop with some cushioning seems to be the sweet spot for me. The new version looks pretty kick ass!
  23. Flip kan jy glo! Thanks there goes my salary again haha
  24. These v2's? http://www.newbalance.com/MT00-V2.html#color=Blue_with_Orange If so did you get them locally and where? NB SA said they ain't bringing them in.
