  1. I use neoprene flipper socks over a thin pair of socks and then booties over that. Snug as a bug in a rug
  2. How about we chip inn and get a private investigator ?
  3. Will try other batteries, the switch can't be moved though. Maybe the current is not regulated well enough ?
  4. Fork sag could also be an issue with tracking
  5. I agree with Phillip, if you want to keep the frame and chuck the parts it could work but thats an expensive excercise. The frame is not light as far as carbon goes and at this level there's no real benefit above alu, it's basically a R5k generic frame branded as Schwinn from what I understand. For that money rather look at something in the classifieds or get a good alu bike like a Silverback with XT for about 11k, think its called the Spectra ? If you really must have carbon rather get a generic frame and spec it to your liking/wallet capacity with new better parts or parts from the hub.
  6. I understand it as trail - 120mm and all-mountain - 140mm For general relaxed riding around and stage races, the 120mm trail bike seems perfect ie. Giant Trance, Merida 120, GT Sensor Then there's the 140mm bike, climbs slowly and steadily so it goes anywhere but enough travel to hit a rough decent fast and some jumps. ie. Giant Reign, Mongoose Teocali, GT Force. This seems like the bike you are looking for. Have a look on crc - Sunn bikes are on special, also obike.co.za and theres a Viper 140mm frame with Fox Rp2/3 on crc for under 5k, which you could build up. Classifides also have bikes but I would be wary, bikes like this take allot of abuse to check it out properly before you commit. I also want to get a bike like this when I have a bit of spare cash. maybe near the end of the year
  7. Bester Cycles. My LBS, well done to them Glad they could help
  8. I have the magneto. Great jacket. Rear zipper vents dont really help IMO. Also at high speed I found air comes in the collar even if zipped up all the way, making me cold. Sleeve removal is simple enough, some may be able to do it while riding. As a vest its also good, though the top of the back is mesh so again if going fast you can catch some wind there. However breathability is good, done allot of running in mine as well even when drizzling/raining and the zips allow good core temp regulation. Water resistance is fine for light rain, it will probly become saturated at a point and you will start getting wet. I did use the vest only in a huge downpour in Dullstroom last year and I'm happy to report that it kept my core bone-dry, even though everything else was soaked. Wasn't in the rain for very long though, maybe 15-30 min. Fit wise, the drop tail works well, can at times cathc on a saddle. Also I feel front could be shorter, fine if you stand or run but tends to fold/crumple when on hte bike which can be annoying. I took a small, but the arms are too wide on the upper part, makes it flappy in the wind, can become irritating. Cyclists dont have rugby player biceps ! The blue looks good and cleans well, just take care in not using fabric softner and use a detergant like Nikwax Tech Wash as it lifts out dirt but also revives the breathability of the material. It is still quite big when folded in its back pocket, so maybe look at the Apple jacket or the Caper Storm equivalent of it's just to be kept in the pack for emergencies. If you need more waterproofing try the FA clear rain jacket, name escapes me but about R700 at sportsmans. Hope that helps !
  9. Dankie ek moet net nounou tyd maak om te gan vroetel, probeer biki swot
  10. Ok it's official Stewie_911 is out. I need a male partner for the challenge, looking to race it. Please let me know asap if anyone is interested as I need to organise payment and want to get accomodation. Otherwise there will be an entry for sale.
  11. Hey all Decided to build my parts over from my old zaskar to the the new frame. Just having 2 small issues. 1) I have a dual pull XTR M970 front derailleur(the normal type without the "X", just the cage) and after cutting off the cable crimp and pulling the cable out the old frame, the cable now seems too short to fit the new frame though its all the same(frame etc.), didnt take the cable out the housing or anything. I had the front shifter in the small chainring and tried taking up as much slack in the calbe manually as possible, but still the cable was too short to get routed in the derailler itself and be clamped. So either the derialleur itself is not correctly positioned, I need to pull harder/take up more slack(maybe adjust cable tension at the shifter?) or I need a new cable as its now too short after removing the cable end ? Any other ideas ? 2) I also just bolted on the whole rear derailleur and cable assembly, shifting is fine but it now does not use the 2 top cogs and want to overshift once it reaches the smallest 11t cog. I presume this means the high/low limit screws need adjustment ? I'm only starting to work on my own bike now so some guidance would be appreciated, this is very foreign to me Had a look at shimano tech docs and googled a bit but no cigar.
  12. hmmm would kinda kill it if I had to ride Exhustar Yep the HR power meter is dodgy, but from what I read it was actually very accurate compared to powertap units. The idea seems to be more about getting a base reading to see improvements or decline in power than measuring in 1sec intervals, this does about 60sec intervals it seems.
  13. AFIK if the downswing fits and can take top or bottom pull as needed it will work but I would rather put a TS XT on then you know its as it should be specced and it will work without issues.
  14. They dont sell online AFIK, you'll need to phone local shops. The SL929 is about R45k, new SL729 should be about 25k but dont quote me on that
  15. Tread mag gave it a good review a while back. Unsure of total bike price but I found the frame to be way overpriced at about 15k where other carbon frames like the Rapide is R6500-R7500 or 13k for a momsen with a fork. Do a search on the hub it has been talked about.
  16. Keen to go sunday at 7am if anyone want to ride together ?
  17. Jarek - can't you just replace your current parts with the XT equivalent then you know it will work ? Or are you building bike from scratch ? Also keep in mind Shimano has recently released a new 2012 XT group, among the changes is it now gives you a 2x10 gearing option if you're a racer type.
  18. What is Quarq doing in response to this ? Garmin also owns ANT isnt is ?
  19. Big issues would be servicing and spares, if those are available with supplier backup, I dont see why not if the performance is good enough for you and you can save $. Keep in mind it could be very heavy and resale value will not be great though. Maybe look at a 2nd hand rock shox/fox on the hub ? Have you looked online ? CRC also has manitou, magura, marzocchi etc. at great prices.
  20. If you run a 11-32/34/36 cassette get the SGS as otherwise it cant stretch enough (cage is too short) to use the biggest sprocket. As I understand it the GS is for bigger hitting bikes and tends to hit the chainstay less as the cage is shorter. The shadow sits more towards the bike so less chance of getting snagged or hit by a rock, but really I dont run one and have never had issues on xtr. For the front, e-type is either a BB mount or mounts to the frame with a bolt ie. trek fuel I think or Scott scales. You get bottom and top pull (ie, where the cable is coming from frame to FD and pulling to shift) and also dual pull, which is best as you can then carry the fd over to any frame. Top and down swing depends on mounting - bottle cages for example I think can get in the way so one works better than another there, as M770 has a high cage where the m771 has a cage that sits below its mounting point if that makes sense. Also look at shifters, rapid fire works best with certain deraillers and dual-control with others. ie. on my xtr the rapid fire and sgs go together AFIK XT does not have a carbon cage RD Think CL is supposed to be lighter, but 6-bolt is just more commanplace, more variety. there are adapters between the two.
  21. and how is the serfas ?
  22. I see on DC Rainmakers site that Cycleops also now have a heart rate belt power device - basically you set it up once with a FTP type test and it then does calculations, about +/-5% accurate. Sends info to headunit via ANT+. Looks promising ! Cycleops have also revamped their hubs and head units, one also now features a gps built in ala edge 500. Also interesting to see Polar and Suunto working on new multisport gps watches, they really have missed that boat ! Not sure but think Polar has brought one out ? Should be on DC Rainmaker's site http://www.dcrainmaker.com/
  23. Have been recommended to go there by a friend as well
  24. Also got an H7 recently, great value ! However it seems to dim when riding, is it overheating or just that the stock batteries suck ?
