  1. I fixed my rim which a spoke had pulled with prattley steel putty. It lasted quite a while (it was on a 26er Stans Flow rim). Have moved onto a 29er now so can't tell you how long it lasted as the bike is now hanging in the garage semi-retired. But was used for at least 6 months and still going strong.

that is my idea of a GOOD quality life, I would give up chasing my tail in a heart beat to live like that if my wife would agree, looking at those pics I would sum the overall situation as content, sad

Living the simple good life. The story was shot a year ago in the depths of COVID, no events where happening etc, so was never meant to be upbeat.

  3. What's a good tough, aggressive XC rear tyre for South African conditions? My Titan Cypher (120mm) came with Vittoria Barzo's, but they're not the tougher Cape Cobra edition. I've had so many punctures in it, thrown tubes in it after the sealant couldn't fill the holes, then pinch flatted the tubes also. Needs to be able to handle rocks (Tokai killed it). Are the Cape Cobra a lot better? Maxxis Ikon? Needs to be reasonably fast rolling, but not racing snake slick & thin.

  4. I have the Titan cypher Comp Alloy (120mm). I love the way it rides. It just feels really planted, pedals well and amazing value for the spec. I will change the fork out to something a bit beefier at some stage, but that's about it. Check out this review https://bikenetwork.co.za/review-titan-racing-cypher-rs-elite-cypher-comp/

    Hi everyone,

I am quite unsure about my next purchase as I mainly participate in Triathlon. Recently I have been doing more MTB and am also looking at taking part in some longer races 50-160km.

My budget is not big and I have been scouring the buy&sell area for the last few months. Seems like great deals if you are Medium or Large size but I am XL.

I have narrowed it down to potentially 3 bikes I can afford.

or the Specialized StumpJumper @ 40k.

I need some advice - I like the titan but not sure of the bran as I currently own Specialized bikes and my Hardtail is an Crave Comp which is fine for my local trails at hobby park.

    Tnx

  5. I'd be weary of over forking the bike. 130mm will probably be fine but at 120/120 it feels so planted.

More is not always better. I was going to try the bike at 130 as the Helm can change from 120 to 160 in 10mm increments in 5 minutes, but having ridden it 120/120 I just can't see it being better.

A proper trail fork like a Pike at 120mm and you have a weapon.

Cool, thanks. Ideally I'd like a fork I can try at 120 & 130. Titan say it can take a 120 or 130mm fork. Have you seen this review? https://bikenetwork.co.za/review-titan-racing-cypher-rs-elite-cypher-comp/

  6. I think those Manitou Markhors are 30mm stanchions. A 120mm trail bike really needs something beefier than that. I can understand the xc one being 32mm, but 34/35mm is the norm for a trail bike.

A 32mm 120mm fork is not a noodle no matter how popular that saying has become. I have a 120mm 32mm SID and I was open minded about changing to a 34mm version but the fork feels really good as is so I won't be bothering.
