    Exhaust Fumes

At times you can be such a "spear" B)
  4. Track bike is the preferred frame, as it has no mounting for cables and such....basically it is smooth allround. Also no brake mounts I bough an old Gazelle in near perfect condition to make a single speed...couldn't get myself to break it down
  5. Oh....I am at 106 kg, so you will be fine
  6. I use a Cape Storm Cranium Cooler.... I have very little hair left, so everything ends up coming into my eyes...until the cranium cooler. It absorbs sweat and then it evaporates. I have not had any sweat in my eyes, so it is almost my most important piece of kit now.
  7. I moved from Alu to Carbon, and yes...the gains are noticeable. But...... It does ride harsher You need to be quite fit for it to make change (an unfit person will stay slow) All the screws need to be torqued, as over tightening leads to busted frame My Alu and carbon frame are both Merida. FWIW....I have an old steel roadie bike, 30 yrs give or take, and it is by far the most comfortable bike to ride apart from a full suss mtb

  9. And De Gendt is riding very well....
  10. Rodriguez doing pretty bad.... 29 secs pulled out of his lead already
  11. Yep...there is a nip in the air today. Sat in the lounge watching F1..... I remember when I was helping at Zuurbron I was wearing tracksuit pants under jeans, long sleeved sportsvest, longsleeved jumper from the organizers and a Columbia subzero jacket.....and it was f**king cold I suppose it was because I barely moved, cycling might be a different story, but yes....bring some warm clothes, or finish before the sun sets
  12. Originally Damascus steel was made up of remelted steel, often of different grades, which caused the mottled look....or so I was told by a knife maker.
  13. The reason was that much of the N2 from Empangeni north wasn't 120 km/h limit, but rather 80 km/h. I used to ride from Rbay up toKwambonambi and back on the N2
  14. I wonder about the climb at the Golden Gate if you enter from Harrismith side towards Clarens. Might not be long but that seemed like Thrombosis hill for sure....
  15. Uhm....yeah. Although I am not too sure about East Rand nitty gritties....here in Jbay our nitty gritties are more of the laid back type
  16. Sure, drop it of at my house
  17. I am not too sure about your LBS, but mine also marks up their prices. To say they are in it for the passion is to say that prostitutes screw for love......it is all about the money, always. If you have a business you want to make money,so everything has a markup. In the previous town I lived I preferred going anywhere but the LBS. The guys had knowledge and were right proper cyclists, but me as a beginner did not benefit from that. I made the mistake of buying my first bike secondhand on The Hub, so whenever I walked in there and asked for advice with purchases I got the "we're busy with proper customers" attitude. All about the money. This caused me to spend my money at the bike shop in The Gateway or the Sportsman's Warehouse. The SW guys rightly did not have much tech savvy, but they were always very helpful. Unless I needed emergency repairs, I never went to my LBS for anything. I would wait two weeks till I could get to Durban. The LBS were knowledgeable and did good work, but I did not feel welcome as a customer. One example, I had an issue with a derailleur....turns out a simple adjustment....they told me three days. A month later one of my friends switched me an I broke the rear derailleur. Said friend takes my bike to them, and drops it at my office three hours later, all fixed. Difference....said friend has bought two BMC's, A Cannondale tandem and a Silverback Monza from them. I once asked him to price a Monza for me, and he quoted me R2k more than my friend paid. Pointed this out to him, and the response was "He is an A-list customer". Being a buyer, I had the proper response..."You have a problem then, as I am not a customer yet, so whether I am A-list or X-list, my money is not in your till" Dylan is trying to work on the personal aspect of the store he is working at, which is what you all claim makes the LBS superior. If the price is right I will buy. I learnt to do my own technical research....a lot of by searching here on The Hub.
  18. "Since 2010, Joaquim Rodriguez has lost an average of 7 minutes in final week to eventual winner in Grand Tours" (L'Equipe)
  19. Isn't that supposed to make things move that are stuck.....
  20. Probably cannot use the search function to find the path....
