  1. I think I’ll get one for my commuter. Are they only available in 145mm width?
  2. I would be aiming for a slightly higher cal intake once on target. Probably 150 odd higher than your estimate. You could probably lift your protein a bit more as well (but that would mess up your targets again).
  3. There is no simple answer. How many cal do you burn during exercise?
  4. Agree. Let me rephrase. If the total speed of the runner + wind speed exceed 18km/h, there is a significant benefit. I would have done the same... I can’t stand it when people do that
  5. The benefit from drafting inly becomes significant above 18km/h, so in running its usually not a big deal. BUT the psychological benefit and pacing effect can be huge
  6. If the aim is to (simply) do an Everesting run, then sure, explore the hills. If the aim is to do it as fast as possible, use the best hill one has access to; even if that hill has been used a million times before. Surely there is scope within ‘the spirit of Everesting’ for both?! (I can’t believe I just posted on this @€€£! thread)
  7. Hmmm... So the bulk of the kit in the COMRADES store is just normal unbranded (no Comrades branding) Mizuno stuff?!
  8. Agree, and both the listed units use GPS-based elevation.
  9. I would guess different GPS chipsets, but even between two identical units (FR35), we often see 20m+ difference between the two per km.
  10. For some reason I’ve never liked him
  11. I’ve had PF on numerous occasions. Cycling (IDT) has always saved me. If you have issues on the trainer, consider temporarily moving your cleats back a bit.
  12. Unfortunately sport events like these are easy targets, and get massive (indirect) publicity for the protesters
  13. Sorry, let me rephrase. The zero drop shoes I was referring to are NB Minimus and Minimus Trail, so it does not provide much cushioning (so zero-drop, minimalist would be a better description). I'm fine with them for up to about 12-15km, but can't do much longer in them. I also prefer to have multiple shoes that I cycle in a week. I have no issue with zero-drop shoes for long runs, and would probably prefer it, but something with a bit of cusioning.
  14. Okay, let me ask the question that I hate seeing. I need some advise on shoes. I'm looking for light anti-pronation or neutral shoes with a very shallow heel counter/cup. I used to run in Asics (GT/Kayano/etc), but after they revamped their lineup a couple of years ago, the depth at the heel is such that it impacts on the Achilles tendon, and I can no longer run with them. My zero-drop shoes are perfect, and I have no issues with it. I am however looking for something I can do higher mileage in. I'm not too worried about the amount of drop, but would prefer to stay below 10 or 12mm. I have no brand loyalty, but don't like Nikes. Any suggestions?
  15. You should be able to link the amp and tv. At worst (if the amp doesn’t have HDMI, you can just get HDMI/RCA converter cables). As for what to watch. For me it depends on what I do. If a long session, then anything that will occupy the mind - movies, series, even the news. When suffering I prefer not to watch anything but the time, and use music to motivate
  16. Are they all aluminium frames?
  17. Kynoselen is NOT an anabolic steroid. Why does everyone only see Heptaminol as a prescription drug for low BP? Its found in a lot of different products. I don’t want to list brands/products, but Heptaminol is found in several products that supposedly prevents cramps, or aid recovery. Its found in some haemorrhoid meds, toothpastes and mouth washes, in headache tabs, etc. I’m sure many of us has ingested Heptaminol inadvertently via these products. Note that I am not condoning the ingestion of any banned substances, deliberately or inadvertently
  18. Heptaminol has little to no performance enhancing effect. I doubt improvements would have been shown in testing. If deliberately used for doping, it is also often just used during events. Its typically fully excreted within 24hours.
  19. I would not get the 920. I'd much rather get a second hand Fenix 3, or 735. If you want to go new, get the 935, or the 735
  20. There should be a new model upgrade for the 935 and the Fenix soon.
  21. It is NOT a controlled substance; internationally. It is NOT only used for blood pressure. It is found in multiple other products, and could be taken inadvertently.
  22. Internationally, it is not a controlled substance. It is often used in veterinary medicine. Its also VERY easy to get hold of, and fairly cheap. Many people recommend it to prevent cramping and ‘muscle fatigue’. It wouldn’t be my first choice, if I wanted to cheat, and I suspect there may have been some ‘accidental’ exposure. But the onus still lies with the individual.
  23. Personally, I feel that a lot of this has to do with the attitude of runners in road running events. I often come across people that would rather throw the empty sachet in the storm water drain or the veld, than on the road or in the provided bins. These are often also the runners that insist on starting as far forward as possible, even if it means pushing in from the front; yet they walk wihin the first 3km, or put up a huge fight when stopped for traffic, etc. If I use sachets, I will trown them in the bins, if I miss a bin, I will pick the sachet up.
