    Meiringspoort is as safe as the drivers are on the day. I have guided many groups of up to 60 riders through Meiringspoort since 2004 and never had a problem . Be visible and respectful towards the traffic and you should be OK. About 8 km out of De Rust direction Oudtshoorn is Oude Muragie road going towards Cango Caves . Very scenic . Stop at Derustica olive farm for coffee and snacks . Contact me when you get to Prince Albert I will give you pointers as to a nice route partly over private property Arno

    Done 22 tours between 1988 and 2025 . 2500 riders in 1988 . Lots of changes most of them good . Started in 5A this year having not ridden since 2020 . Was inspirational to see a lage number of riders around my age ( 77 next month ) to ride it unassisted . Taking it easy on a mountain bike and staying out of bunches I had a riding time of just under 5 hours . I am al for people who are injured or too weak due to illness or age to ride an E-bike . But the sight of an obese couple screaming past first on Chappies and again on Suikerbossie on their second or 3rd batteries is just not on . If you can not ride the route on one battery stay at home . Or get a bigger battery . Or ride the short route . As ChrisF has mentioned always a few who spoil it for the rest.

    At 178 cm I am comfortable on my M Scalpel but on test ride on a customer’s Large I felt more comfortable. As stated above I think XL will be too big for you

    Just had a guy asking me to replace the bb on his mtb because it was making a noise . It was one of the headset bearings . Have had lots of wild goose chases after noises .
