  1. Rad. Check you there! Dem pistons need activation ;-)
  2. Negative. My weekend was booked up with non-biking engagements.
  3. That said, perhaps pink isn't the best colour to indicate the chicken lines. I'm sure I've seen a more gender-neutral green being used to grade trail difficult with success somewhere else
  4. So we've all agreed to do Die Leer A-line on Saturday then?
  5. So disco shoes or mountain bike? I'll be suffering on an endurance road bike, so the road shoes seem fitting
  6. A pre-event look at the front-runners (including Velouria): This Friday, the 20th of April, the defending 36ONE MTB Challenge champions, Ramses Bekkenk and Jeannie Dreyer, will line up alongside 781 fellow mountain bikers to take on the 361 kilometre long circumnavigation of the Klein Karoo. The pair will no doubt be out to break their own course records, but will not have it all their own way as fierce rivals and the unpredictable nature of the event will surely attempt to derail their plans. 7. Ok, let's get this one rolling
  8. How'd the racing go? Are the results available?
  9. A.S.O. is putting out some great videos. The official promo video to fire up the stoke: And a little refresher course:
  10. I chatted to the mechanic yesterday. He says the team use a special adaptor and spacers.
  11. They pulled out when Neff was injured in a cyclocross crash. She just made it back in time for the first World Cup but not yet ready for eight days of racing.

  13. The initial contract is apparently for two years. So next year should happen unless something changes there. I reckon all parties involved will be looking at this past event before further discussions.
  14. Sadly, it is true: https://www.bikehub.co.za/features/_/news/road/sa-road-cycling/statement-from-david-bellairs-regarding-the-cape-town-cycle-tour-marshal-r7167
  15. From the Cycle Tour: "Statement from David Bellairs regarding the Cape Town Cycle Tour marshal: We have received the sad news that late yesterday afternoon one of our Rotary marshalls passed away in hospital. He was stationed on an S-bend after the Llundudno turnoff. The circumstances surrounding the incident are unclear and we are currently investigating the incident in conjunction with the South African Police Services. Our Rotary marshalls have always been integral to the successful running of the Cape Town Cycle Tour. Most of them work alongside us year after year in a voluntary capacity. They are part of the Cycle Tour family, as are our riders, and we are deeply saddened by this news. We ask for respect for the family’s privacy at this time. We will communicate further information when we have it, if appropriate. For the vast majority of our cyclists and those working behind the scenes, the 2018 Cape Town Cycle Tour reached a successful culmination after months of hard work. But three families are in mourning for the three lives lost on the route this year. One cyclist succumbed to his wounds at the scene of a pileup with other cyclists at the base of Wynberg Hill, another is suspected to have experienced a heart attack going up the hill at Smitswinkel Bay, and, as stated, we are awaiting confirmation regarding the marshall. I want to assure everyone that all measures are taken to ensure participants’ and marshalls’ safety on the route. In my 28 years working on the Cycle Tour, there have been only 2 trauma related deaths on the day of Cycle Tour. Our hearts and prayers are with the families at this very sad time. We have extended our most sincere condolences."
  16. You can get SR Suntour through shops that deal with Dragons Sports while Robbie's Bicycle Concept (who was doing neutral suspension service for the riders) had the DT Swiss range at the race. The brand is distributed country-wide by Get Stoked.
  17. Very sad news. The press release from the Cycle Tour: "It is with deep regret that the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust confirms that an accident involving a group of 20 cyclists occurred this morning on Wynberg Hill. One of the cyclists, a 40-year-old male, received immediate medical attention at the scene but, tragically, his injuries proved fatal. Our sincere condolences to his family, who have been advised. No further details will be made available until our medical briefing at 15h00 this afternoon."
  18. My guess is for quick wheel changes as punctures are a real threat on the rough spring classic roads. Also, there aren't many big descents. Although the conditions would seem to favour discs but these guys do have the best bike handling skills. The ladies might not have as many resources when it comes to bike and wheel options. Anyone know?
  19. The area is struggling with connectivity after a recent fire. New fibre cables are being laid to try to get Sunday's coverage working.
  20. Too early?
  21. "For those cyclists who missed the original entry cut-off in September 2017, the official substitution process for the 2018 Cape Town Cycle Tour opens on Monday, 5 February 2017 at 1pm and closes on Thursday, 1 March at 1pm."
