Poo. These aren't even bone conduction, they're air conduction.

I use mine for phone calls in the workshop and they're great for that, but for music I'd rather look at an in-ear option. That said, I'm a 3rd generation audiophile so YMMV.

You've just convinced me to stay away from these, LOL.

Had mine for about 4 months. No issues with them so far. Happy. Bought mine at Sportsman's Warehouse.

I've read in some places that the conduction earphones can sound "tinny". I won't call myself a bass freak, but I like a little oomph. How is the bass with these?

Only pair that so far held out with me sweating buckets. Upgrading to the shokz Openrun Pro just to have the ability to have the outside noise and being able to communicate on gravel races.

I'm looking at this pair right now in vat-baie. I've owned multiple pairs of the sister product, the JLab Go Air Pop, and they just would not stay in my ears, even if the riding/running I didn't wasn't vigorous (I've lost multiple buds), so I need to revert to the hook type. Going to purchase these and give them a whirl.

I was always under the impression that these would just be “nice to haves”, but when Zwift announced that they’d be integrating virtual shifting, I just had to get them.

    20240419_124452.jpegAbsolutely loving them.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the virtual shifting is only applicable to the Cog that retrofits to the KICKR?

Some of them ARE being sold at bike shops already. And a lot of things that people think are not Chinese are.

What these online places do is cut-out a lot of the middlemen that sometimes add very little value and sometimes add a lot of value (if someone goes to China, inspects the factory and stand by the product, they are adding value. If someone buys 100 SCVCN sunglasses for R70 each and resells them for R500 in their shop or on takealot, they are not).

If you can find some reputable online reviews of products listed on Temu, I don't think there is any more risk buying from them than from Merlin.

I've been able to find some great things on Temu for prices that are so cheap that any perceived "gamble" is worth it. I'm talking things like a couple of cool different top tube, frame and seat bags, some sunglasses, some basic tools and a couple of Ridenow tubes. I'm even eyeing a new saddle that is very "mirror" like for a very reasonable price.

What I do think there is an issue with is the pretty lax copyright laws. Buying a fake Pinarello frame is probably wrong. Buying a frame that looks a lot like one but doesn't claim to be one? Not too sure about this yet.

    Food for thought!

I've project managed capital items worth a few hundred thousand USD, to commodity items made by the container load from China / Spain / Brazil / Russia and from local manufacturers.

I think some logic here would help. Bundling manufacturing in China together in one big lump makes zero sense.

Are there dodgy, kid-based, zero-safety shitholes making millions of parts for a few cents? Yes, 100%.

Are there high quality, cutting edge manufacturing facilities that are world-class in terms of quality and are just smart enough to leverage the Chinese government's powerful pro-manufacturing policies, and an abundant and driven workforce? Yes, 100%.

I've been in shitholes and beautiful facilities in every one of the countries I've mentioned above. "China is shitty cheap stuff" is as logically sound as saying "All South Africans are racist", "all Brazilians samba to work" and "All Americans are overweight"...

Would I buy a carbon handlebar from Temu for a downhill bike? Nope. Is that decision based on perception and gut feel more than any technical reasoning? Yep.

This gave me a good chuckle, thanks Tyron.

Simply advertising an item doesn't imply desperation from the seller. It's disrespectful for BH members to propose offers 40 to 50% lower than the asking price. If unable to afford the asking price, make a reasonable offer instead of attempting to take advantage. Let's be realistic with our offers.

100% mate. The secondhand market (not limited to cycling mind you) is incredibly fickle. The "market" is basically based on what the person/s is/are WILLING to pay. The inherent value of the product is quite low compared to the original retail price. So, naturally, I'm going to offer as little as possible since I want to pay as little as possible (remember the good 'ol days when you visited BH for "deals/steals"?). Lots of websites are heading the way of auctions. That way you're more likely to receive what the market preceives to be a fair price.

But on the other hand, if the seller is desperate (read URGENT/RELOCATION SALE), is a low ball offer then acceptable?

I heard just the other day when he took office, it was about R13/$. We all know where is sits now.

Point in case - last year an event outside Ashton the one farmer changed approvals the night before the event !!  Caused a fair bit of issues ....

Have to feel for organisers trying to negotiate all these hurdles.

Oef, that's a bit brash from the farmer, would love to know his version of the story.

My little contribution; make sure you have a good medical team and the appropriate insurances in place. May never be needed but you can't afford (I think) to skimp here. Now we start to know why race entires become expensive.  Agree about the optional medals (tick on your entry?) and have plenty water plus a weather contingency plan; alternative routes etc.  Invite food, coffee and bike shops etc to have stands but (I would say) for free.

Think of the best organised race you have particpated in and see if the organisers will share with you; spreadsheet checklists and contacts? Long shot maybe.

Typically with races held on public roads, a risk/safety assessment needs to be done and submitted to the local government for approval, and in there proof of medical backup is mandatory. Frankly, it's completely unacceptable if there isn't medical backup. And remember, the amount of ambulances/medical staff on site is FIELD dependant. I can't remember the exact number, but I get the feeling it's one ambulance per 20 people, but someone like @Frosty but correct me.

Porta potty's aplenty and make sure they got bogroll in them. There is nothing worse than standing in a line needing the morning ablute with 10 mins to start, disrobing in the Tupperware, dropping the bib shorts and then there's no paper. Take away my medal, misdirect me on the route, don't have enough baby spuds at waterpoint three but the ablutions is a dealbreaker.

Echo the stuff around a nice trinket, magnet or something instead of medal

GPX route before time is nice

They are expensive, so this might not always be easy.

Asking for some friendly advice from the Bikehub community...

We have all done some epic races over the years. Sometimes we come back the next year and other times we don't go back because the dominee (wearing a chicken costume) got tipsy on the day and messed up the prize giving... (True story, happend in a little plaasdorpie in the North West in 2012) 🐔🍺

This year I have decided to throw my hat in the ring to help organise a local race and I have almost 0 experience in event management. Any tips, advice, do's and don'ts to make this a local lekker race again would be greatly appreciated. 🫡

Or just share your similar story if you had a dronk dominee encounter.

@Frosty is possibly the best non-event management professional for advice.
