  1. Okay LeTurbo Your sarcasm is amazing! Did you take lessons or are you naturally an A-grade ****? Currently the votes disagree with you. We'll wait and see then. If my small attempt to make the Hub a safer platform to trade on upsets you, I do apologise. You've had your say, now kindly go away.
  2. True. I come from the Sandton side though so it's gonna be a mission heading around. Don't see how this will affect crime rates.
  3. Correct, but is this happening? By including the number it becomes a natural step in purchasing a used frame instead of something that you can do if you feel like it.
  4. Mob, please lynch Velo.
  5. I'm still all for the full number being displayed. But I suppose if some are censored it would be the buyer's responsibility to ensure they check up on the full sequence before purchasing. It would take a while for the database to build up but we have to start somewhere.
  6. No more night rides then. Unless you're up for a 7 hour epic.
  7. Wrigs, you can stay too.
  8. The wheels on F1 cars are massive. Seriously.
  9. Brunsdon - that's the spirit. I dig you. But not in that sort of way.
  10. WHO'S SCREAMING?
  11. So I bought a Niner Air 9 frame yesterday. I'm changing sides again and I don't care if MBP threatens me with death or whatever. 26er riders secretly wish that they had vaginas so that their cycle shorts would fit better.
  12. Again, it's not about trust godamnit! There is a central database but it just isn't being utilized. The R84 might be a deterrant. But by forcing a mindset change people will begin to think about serial numbers before coughing up their cash. If you have been responsible and registered your frame on purchase then there is absolutely no reason not to publish your serial number. On buying a 2nd hand frame, get the registration details, make the changes, or at least get the ID of the seller and keep your bank statements. I bought a new frame yesterday, it came with a postcard that needs to be completed (including serial) and sent back to Niner. This is exactly what I'm going to do (they even throw in a free water bottle for my effort). Then if anyone claims my frame is stolen, I have proof on the Niner database.
  13. No, spelling "ridiculous" like this: "rediculous" is ridiculous.
  14. You are missing the point. It's not about being suspicious of anyone but rather making this platform a more difficult place to exploit by would-be dodgy dealers. If this could spread to other forums then eventually criminals would have a tougher time of offloading their goods. I am not accusing anyone. Your point about someone reporting your bike stolen - this person would be an idiot because any dated photo with you and your bike or simply publishing your serial on nbrza or here would leave him with egg on his face. There is no reason for you not to publish your serial numbers. So instead of being a pessimist git and complaining about the bike theft, why not help us to change things? And no, I'm not joining the reservists but thank-you very much for the offer.
  15. Exactly, we all think that they are legit. But how do we really know? Could even have been stolen from LBS - so they look brand new.
  16. Yeah, ok conspiracy man. I'm also really sorry about the aliens who landed in your back garden and anal-probed you.
  17. I won't believe you until I see the serial number.
  18. There, I just did it to an ad - https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/77600-ibis-mojo-carbon-medium/page__gopid__1120870#entry1120870 It felt good, try it. Even if there aren't that many stolen bikes here, it would cause a mentality shift and remind us to always check the serial wherever we may buy a used frame.
  19. Hey Admin! What do you reckon?
  20. Not sure of the site for the registry, but it does exist. Of course it will take a while, but if we all actively enforce it then it will catch on. Heartcoppi can be the smoking police, I'll try become serial police guy.
  21. Ok, so I've been thinking... We all agree that bike theft is the worst thing since syphilis. But these bikes are somehow being resold. It pains me to think that some of these bikes are possibly (probably?) being resold to innocent Hubbers. Imagine that, us awesome Hubbers actually being part of the problem by unknowingly purchasing stolen goods. Not cool. So... Frames have serial numbers, right? What if every single adverisement for a frame or bike on the Hub had to include the serial number of said frame? This could be enforced by us, the buyers, or even by Admin. So then instead of asking: "Size?" "Why you selling?" "Couch pic!" we could say: "Serial number biatch!" There is already an on-line database for frame serial numbers which we could then go and look at or we could cross-reference here - https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/80059-stolen-bikes-serial-numbers/ If this became Hub law then surely it would be a bit trickier for dodgy bastards to take advantage of us? Treat the cause, not the symptoms. And who knows, if we start here perhaps it will catch on and spread and people won't buy a frame without checking up on the relevant digits. So, who's with me? Shall we give it a go? Methinks the only people who would not be keen would be the dishonest sellers and buyers.
  22. Please post only in the following format to make this thread easily searchable: Bike make, model, colour, serial number.
  23. Nah, of course the heavy lads are allowed to cycle (especially because cycling is a good way to make them not-so-heavy). What I'm saying is that it isn't terribly entertaining watching it (unless they fall). I like watching the front boys carving the single-track rather.
  24. +1
  25. Crap show wasn't it? Overweight coporates trying to pedal isn't my idea of entertainment.
