  1. Looking forward to the race, wind from the "back" for second half and cool day predicted..
  2. The beer at the end is always welcomed, maybe Heinz Zoerweg should join the race, so when he crosses the line and he can immediately enjoys his beer
  3. There is a conversion set included in the pack, I started with a QR and later just got it converted to the thru axle
  4. 76km for me too. the new route will test me, but I really enjoyed the race last year
  5. at some stage someone needs to start / open the 2018 event page and then we can get a running start to that one
  6. Yeah was wondering if at least there will be a bit of discount or something. Wonder if this will mean a few less people signing up to the PPA (seeing for some that the promise of preferential entry is the only reason to sign up)
  7. Dear Cape Town Cycle Tour Participants The Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust is deeply disappointed and saddened by the outcome of this past weekend. For the cyclists, sponsors, city and provincial stakeholders - and of course the organizing team - it has been an extremely difficult and trying time. The decision to stop the race after the first four groups had left, and to then cancel the event completely was not taken lightly, nor was it taken without following strict protocols and was based primarily on participants’ safety. Involved in the decision to ultimately stop the race were multiple role players including the event organizing team, City of Cape Town Disaster Management Services, traffic authorities, Metro Police, South African Police Services, Mediclinic, Fire & Safety, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Using all intelligence available to us at the time and after having delayed a number of start groups, the decision was made at 06h38 to halt the event. While we know that many of you are as disappointed as we are with this outcome, we trust you understand that our motivation was based purely on your safety and can assure you that we considered every alternative before making this difficult decision. We are humbled and grateful for the outpouring of support we have received over the past 24 hours, and for this we thank you. We will be offering all participants who registered and collected their race numbers at the Cape Town Cycle Tour Expo between 9 and 11 March 2017 a preferential entry for the 2018 Cape Town Cycle Tour, before entries are made available to the general public. We wish to advise that the 40th Cape Town Cycle Tour will now be held on 11 March 2018 and as such, no finisher’s medals will be issued for the 2017 event. The Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust will donate the 2017 prize fund of R220 000 to the relief efforts of those affected by the fires in Imizamo Yethu in Hout Bay. We are also donating water bottles to DARG (the Domestic Animal Rescue Group) who are saving and caring for animals from those affected areas. We look forward to celebrating our 40th Cape Town Cycle Tour with you next year. With thanks again and good wishes, The Cape Town Cycle Tour Team
  8. Agree with your comments. My view is that some people forget that the race have lots of different riders of different skill sets, and if you combine them in bunches it changes the dynamics compare to when you with riders of similar experienced skills. Long and the short, personally without scientific backing, more people would have gotten hurt than normally, putting immense pressure on the medical support structures, and then there will be just as many people complaining on why did they continue the race. I might not like the decision, to understand that if it was me in the same position as them with the available options on the day, that the same decision would be taken
  9. That is what I also thought would prevent them from using that start point (of course if the unfinished highway was completed, it would work
  10. Did they do the full route or partial route?
  11. They say the wine farms are also filling up
  12. So long and the short, if you accept that the race is open to all (pros, weekend warriors, plebs, etc.) then the decision to let it proceed needs to be taken with everyone in mind (within reason of course). Sort of feels like the right decision, even if it was unpleasant and feels like a waste. Now we will probably have the most amazing wind still monday / tuesday
  13. Would the back markers been able to handle it?
  14. Soooo, I have a question seeing that we recently had a discussion that road races have on average more finishers than MTB races, that is why they should have more road races.. ..just for the record the CTCT MTB had more finishers than the road race...
  15. Can you get insurance for such a situation ?
  16. Wonder of the marketing guys are already planning for next year.. is it then going to be Argus 40 part 2
  17. Don't think we actually can know (except if someone has access to the data at chappies), how bad it would have been on the full route and all in all they have to consider not only the first groups but all the participants.
  18. Would have started now, but instead back home, showered and 2017 argus done and dusted. Luckily still got my two medals (MTB sat & sun)
  19. Not happy but it is the correct decision
  20. Just saw it now too, oh well I assume the dangers was to high. Hope everyone still enjoy the remaining route
  21. All the best to all that is racing / riding / walking tomorrow, be safe and have a lot of fun.
  22. We can comment on that it would have been nice to know that this concession was going to be made, and on the merits of a shorter distance. Yet it is also a positive thing as it does give the ladies an open road ahead and behind them. And for those that want to enjoy the full route, they will be done in tine to do the second loop.
  23. Anyone been to the Exco in the last 30 min? What is the q looking like?
