  1. Slow down when passing pedestrians.
  2. He must have been chasing a striver segment!
  3. I tend to use FTP mostly for TSS, so I just bump it up if intensity factor reaches > 1. Been using 90% of max to pace intervals and it's been working better for me. Do a lot of riding on the MTB with no power so just been estimating TSS for those rides anyway.
  4. If that was from 20 min, then 95% of that is roughly your 1hr FTP. Now you have a ballpark for workouts, as well as calculating training stress score.
  5. He said he eats low carb, and symptoms don't sound like hyperglycaemia related.
  6. Always round the corners of whichever shape you cut... prevents lift up.
  7. Being a dual susser big+big chain sizing needs to happen with shock depressed, otherwise you might be in for a surprise going over a bump or drop.
  8. I don't get chain slap but I drop my chain all the time(off the big blade) . It happens if I just lift the back wheel and drop it. Might just be specific to the trance 29er 2 setup.
  9. It sounds like the piston popped out too far... it's happened to me with shimano slx. I had to bleed the brakes but the piston popped back in quite easily. Always stick in a bleeding block (yellow plastic thing) if you pump the lever without pads. Half of the yellow clamp can work as well. FYI shimano calipers are simple in construction but awesome: http://forums.mtbr.com/brake-time/ever-wondered-how-hydraulic-brake-calliper-works-848452.html
  10. I run the full range of gearing on my sram 2x10, so you should be able to as well. There are a lot of factors which can affect how smoothly the gears run, but the easiest thing to check is that the rear derailleur top pulley is aligned with the cassette cog that you're skipping on.
  11. Yes but at least you'll have 2 spare if they break. I've packed mine with marine grease and can only tell they're a little softer riding with someone else who has hope hubs too! So they're still gonna be pretty loud bottom line. Edit: best advice, keep pedaling, they're awful quiet then!
  12. It's unrealistic to expect to be able to quieten them. Extra grease will make them less audible, but still pretty loud. Edit: removing 2 pawls will make them sound softer
  13. I have a prusa i3 kit from makerfarm @ sapo. I doubt it will print a whole bike. Once I get it working I'll try printing a mount for the garmin and bike light
  14. Lycra under baggies. The best of both or just confused?
  15. Nothing much?
  16. Interesting point. I had a PR on a fairly windy day, so there are a few conditions tipping the proverbial scales. If you're just out to beat other folks it could be discouraging. I guess beat the peleton times then you know you're an yster.
  17. I switched to compact and haven't looked back. I prefer spinning up climbs, so to me the lower gearing is it's advantage. I can't spin out 50/11 so not missing a top end gear. Depending on crank it could be the last 3 cogs. I get rub with sram s975 but not ultegra. Crosschaining is the Devils playground either way. Also, because the compact has a 16 teeth difference compared to standard's 14, you will have to shift a gear or 2 on your cassette when changing between big and small blade. It becomes intuitive after a while.
  18. Yes. Phone gps is not as accurate. Your ride elevation will differ between the garmin and phone as well. If you're having trouble komming a segment, use your phone.
  19. Anyone know of an lbs in Cape Town who can do firmware updates for Di2?
  20. If you use FTP to set your interval zones for workouts on the IDT; and you estimate FTP by testing on the IDT, then no.
  21. I've been using Golden Cheetah for the past year or so, and havent seen the need to pay for trainingpeaks or wko+.
  22. Might be sitting at your post-office and the online tracking has not been updated. Phone your post office or cape mail.
  23. The mail from cycle lab about the cape cobra stated that it is due to the roadworks. Has been tentatively rescheduled to september 2013. ... (Steenberg, 22 November 2012) For quite a while, Main Road between Muizenberg and Fish Hoek has had extensive road works. The road works are currently near the Main Road/ Boyes Drive [Kalk Bay harbour] intersection. A stop and go system has been put in place at this point and only one lane is open to use. Due to this, vehicular traffic has been requested to use Ou Kaapse Weg as an alternate route when possible. This has hugely increased the traffic flow over Ou Kaapse Weg. Because of the above and specifically the increased traffic on Ou Kaapse Weg, we have now formally been advised by the Cape Town Events Office that NO routes will be approved that make use of Ou Kaapse Weg, or Main Road/Boyes Drive for Summer 2013.
  24. 500-750 a week, very closely related to tits. Not meaning to derail, but does anyone use MAP to estimate FTP?
  25. If your current eating plan worked to bring you from 128kg down to 100kg, then it stands to reason, without making assumptions ("i dont think its the diet it must be something else"), that a leaner eating plan will get you to 80kg.
