  1. here's a typical day's food for me: Breakfast - 2 weetbix or small bowl of oats Lunch - 6-8 cream crackers, tin of tuna/2 boiled eggs, salad Dinner - medium portion of whatever I make I don't eat bread anymore and even stay away from fruit due to the high concentrations of sugar. I've calculated my basal metabolic rate and train and burn on average 1500-2500 Cal per 2 hour daily workout. Based on what I eat I should lose weight quite quickly. The only thing is i'm not built like a cyclist, i've been a swimmer my whole life and thus have most of my weight sitting on the upper part of my body.
  2. is it possible to plateau at a specific weight after a while because i can't seem to drop my weight any further with cycling. I've added swimming into my schedule now and have immediately lost 2.5kg in 2 weeks. i usually cycle about 12-15 hours a week and have kept to a reasonably strict diet for the last 6 months.
  3. did you guys do a ride this morning? I rode with UCT and we went out to the west coast just past Silwerstroomstrand and then back through town, Suikerbossie and Constantia Neck. Ended up being a 160km ride
  4. I would be keen but I usually do a ride with the UCT League riders. I always get a solid workout with them especially on the hills. There's way more hills out here on the peninsula. When I think table view its all flat.
  5. It sounds tough to me. My fiancée at least lets me do my 2 weekly weekend rides. As long as I'm home by lunch time. Plus she enjoys sleeping late so its a win-win situation.
  6. i also experienced these symptoms a couple of weeks ago. Went to the doctor and he put me on something to manually correct the ph balance in my stomach. It started to work after 2-3 days. I've also heard cyclists often don't have enough iron so its good to take a supplement.
  7. Wednesday is criterium racing (not set up by PPA) whilst the Tuesday sessions are PPA training. I'd suggest to phone PPA and ask them.
  8. I've found that unfortunately when you reach groups F and G, you sort of hit a wall and its very difficult to improve further. I consistently did well in races in the summer season sometimes even coming in with the D batch riders but my seeding still stays at F.
  9. just for interest sake how much do those computers go for new?
  10. it said on the website that they open at 12:00 today. Last year they were delayed by about 2 hours and then the system was terribly slow to enter.
  11. 83km/h coming down Ou Kaapse Weg with a SE and 75km/h coming down the hill past Kirstenbosch.
  12. sometimes its a sign that your body is tired and you're over trained. usually it means you need to spend some time recovering
  13. Olympic Meteor road shoes - 18 months old Olympic hurricane mtb shoes - 4 months old I've found the road shoes to be a lot more comfortable and softer.
  14. I got mine today
  15. it hasn't started again yet but it generally runs through summer every wednesday evening at the Killarney race course. There's usually a fast group and slower group. Its basically a race where you ride laps around the circuit for 60 minutes. Its very fast (40-45km/h ave) and you'll be training at your peak heart rate. More info will be posted up on the hub once it starts again.
  16. if you're in Cape Town then go ride the weekly Killarney criterium when it starts again.
  17. You have to remember that the seeding model is a statistical model that tries to approximate people's seedings in the simplest and most effective way. Seeding is just there to insure that when you race you are riding in a group of people with similar fitness levels, experience, etc. If you do a race and the winner's time is adjusted up or down, it affects the seeding index for everyone that did the race. This winner's time adjustment has got nothing to do with the winner, it is just part of how the model works. Also there doesn't exist one model that would work for every race. People always want to improve their seeding and go up. When the new model was created last year, the new beta adjustment actually served to help people. The hub is only a small representation of all the people that use the seeding system.
  18. thanks. i've spoken to david clark quite a bit. I know how the seeding model works. unfortunately no model will favour everyone in every race. the important thing is that its consistent,
  19. don't speak to PPA as they don't know anything about the seeding, rather contact racetec directly. Funny enough I did better in Die Burger MTB than the Backsberg MTB 45km but my seeding for Backsberg was better. Oh well, at least I'm not relying on my MTB races to get me a good seeding. Also if you read more on the PPA site, a race will only count 33% of your seeding if it is longer than about 70-80km. Therefore you'd have to do well in 5 mtb races to get a good seeding as they only weight them 20%
  20. the seeding model hasn't been changed. therefore the only way you can drop down is if your seeding from last season was from old races for which you now get penalised. only your top 3 results are ever used
  21. I'm still in F. I wish that the seeding would reflect similar to the national seeding index. For instance my 99er ride gave me an index of 14 with the national index. PPA gives me 22. I guess I have to rather train harder and beat the system.
  22. I've cycled from Southern Suburbs to stellenbosch and back. We went out along the R102 (Voortrekker Road) from Woodstock all the way past Bellville until Kuilsriver, then turned off onto the M12 (Polkadraai) to get to Stellenbosch.
  23. last year it started in middle august I think. also does anyone know if there's a winter time trial series happening all like last year?
  24. bump
  25. my nokia usually lasts on 4 hour rides if its freshly charged.
