  1. Rode up Price Drive the first time today. must say its a great place for training and doing reasonable intervals. Maxed out at 17% gradient in one place.
  2. i might make the ride, will let you know later in the week.
  3. same route as last time. then turn up Bowwood drive in Claremont, turn left onto M3, up Wynberg hill, keep left and take Travato link exit and carry on through the suburbs like last time.
  4. so when you download from the edge do you use Garmin training centre and then convert to tcx/gpx and then import into ST? thats the only way i've found for it to work. quite a mission
  5. How does the sport tracks 3 trial version compare to the old version 2? is it necessary to buy the whole package or are the trial features sufficient?
  6. if thats the case then its a bit useless to me. Last year I completed well over 20 cycling events with many of them over 100km (worth 5000 points each).
  7. just for interest sake, is there a max amount of points you can claim through sa-active? I've completed 7 events this year and put in claims for all of them. Will vitality cap me? Also I've heard there are base points and booster points? What's the difference and how can you earn them?
  8. ok great. i've found sport tracks to be more than adequate for what I've tracked with my cellphone. I'd definitely used that. I'm just trying to work out now whether to go for the polar cs400 or edge 500. they both seem to have similar functions except for the gps in the e500.
  9. just for interest sake: what do you exactly need the mapset for? i am considering buying the e500 but don't want to have to worry about further costs. thanks
  10. last year I used to alway start 1 or 2 groups down and we'd still catch groups in front of us. I think at the moment there's very little time separating people that ride from group F - I for instance. The only (semi) positive thing about not being able to move up easily is everyone is affected the same. So you will be getting stronger with everyone else you usually race with. There's a good chance if one of you gets a better seeding then all of you will. Then you'll move up a letter and still be riding with similar people.
  11. is it the normal polar irda dongle or the usb 2.0 one? any idea where to get them cheap?
  12. Hi Does anyone have any experience with transferring data from the CS400 in Windows 7. Do you have to use the Polar specific dongle or are there generic dongles that will also work? Thanks
  13. Most of us in higher groups D-F are struggling to move up in the seeding. Every race we do we don't come close to getting an equivalent index. What would happen if we all started riding in lower groups. Wouldn't this upset the seeding system as suddenly times would be faster and groups would start getting too big?
  14. Just for interest sakes, how much custom duty did you have to pay. I'm considering also buying a polar from them.
  15. I've also been using gatorskins for ages and they are definitely more resistant to glass although if you ride over a nail or devil thorn then even they don't work. Its also very important that you always pump your tires to the recommended pressure. The harder they are, the more resistant they are to glass, etc. But even gatorskins wear down so make sure you replace them once you start getting regular punctures. My strategy is to buy a new set of gatorskins every year at the argus expo. All the stores are in competition with each other and thus you can pick up some really good deals! I picked up a set last year for about R520.
  16. So how did everyone find the race? My legs were tender from the 99er but I really enjoyed it. Rode in E-F group
  17. You need sufficient recovery time as well. Thats when you get stronger. It doesn't help if you're always tired. With the racing season upon us there's very little time to train intervals more than once a week. A typical week should look like: Sunday - Race Monday - Rest Tuesday - Intervals (if you're up to it otherwise ride at ave of 70%) Wednesday - Ride at 70% (or do intervals depending on what you did on tues) Thurs - Tempo ride: 80-85% Friday - 70% ride Saturday - Very easy leg loosener before the race It doesn't matter for how long you ride for if you've got sufficient base in your legs.
  18. Some advice i got in the past. If you're feeling good in the first half of the race, try and rest the legs and ride as little as possible on the front (i know its hard when you're trying to drive the pace). Once you're past half way, you can ride off the group if you can maybe see a group up ahead OR if you can ride some time into the bunch on a climb. Try to always keep your HR as low as possible and shelter from the wind as much as you can. Often the last 20km of the race are a bit faster. I find my heart rate usually averages about 85% during a race. Also when you work out your max HR is it based on calculation or the highest you've attained during a ride? The ride you did yesterday, did it feel like race pace or was it easier/harder? You'll have to push yourself out of your comfort zone completely if you want to be able to do it in a race
  19. Solution to the problem: Stay on the mountain-side of the bunch to shelter from the wind as far as possible. The front guys will still drive it hard but at least you can save your legs.
  20. I also did the cobra this year in CAT3 with a time of 11:58 @ 32.3km/h. As a comparison, in last year's Bay City cycle tour there was quite a strong SE blowing and I rode with group G and did the Boyes Drive section in 14:55 @ 28km/h. Thats a difference of 3 minutes due to the wind. I think Boyes Drive is way more protected than main road. The place where times suffer due to the wind is from Kalk bay to the top of Smits.
  21. Riding in $ for the first time
  22. Had a great race in group C-D. Worked hard on the front for most of the race and finally fell off the back of the group at the top of OKW the second time. Came in 1:30 behind the bunch so very happy. Definitely doing the double next weekend. Did it last year as well. Lots of fun!
  23. Received my ICE ID today. Very happy with it and it arrived quickly.
