  1. I rode it in 2015, last stage is only timed to the top, but riders must all ride back to the start on their own power or get DNF. No traffic problem, okes go down slowly looking at the stunning view. Two days before the event my rear shock failed, I pogo-ed all the way up and down Sani pass. That is how I learnt to regularly service my shocks.
  2. Great race, will be there again this year, but with more sealant in my tires. Very very thorny.
  3. Oh that is pretty. Are those Ambrosio rims? I had a pair of red ambrosio rims on gipiemme special hubs on a Carlton track bike, they were beautiful.
  4. Jetline action photos, but they aren't loaded yet
  5. Great race. Last rode in 2015, when it was 80km. This route is better, shorter doesn't mean easier. Much more single track, the monster climb descent was on breedts road in 2015, replaced by a single track descent which is much more fun. i really enjoyed this race, there was a great vibe out there. Thanks to the organizers and other participants for a great day.
  6. So I was looking for this tool about a year ago. Read that they were really difficult to get hold of, so went the eBay route. Then I decided to try my lbs anyway too. Gave them the part number, they got it is 4 days. So my advice is to try your lbs, you may be surprised. Alas I gave my extra one to a mate.
  7. Hmpf, in my back yard and gonna miss it. Baby turns one and for some reason the missus insists on having a bday party, just silly.
  8. I, as many others I am sure, have an epic comp (cheapest one). I bought it New just over two years ago, paid R24000 for it. It was an October bike, always get deals then. I was gonna get an anthem, but it was R500 more. Regarding the brain service, well I service it once a year (about every 3000km) and it costs just over a grand. What does it cost for a full rear shock service for a non brain shock? Is it that much less? Sure the top end spez stuff is expensive, but the entry level bikes for us mere mortals are competitive. My mate just bought a brand new camber comp for 30 grand (also eoy purchase).
  9. I had something very bizarre happen with these things. Went for a ride, half way through the ride I saw that one had fallen out. Then I encountered another dude who had picked it up, was very happy. When I got home I took them both out to try and secure them better and realized that I now had two pluggers and no reamer. What are the chances? Obviously the dude found someone else's plugger, really strange coincidence. Also where I ride is not at all crowded, the mountain reserve in Rustenburg, on a 50km ride maybe see 4-5 other riders most days.
  10. I bought one this morning from Evans, how was yours shipped? I paid £15 for shipping but they are not specific on the website.
  11. Had a pair for almost 3 years now. Great glasses, really adjustable fit, great lenses, can't really go wrong here.
  12. Replaced my previous specialized shoes with these as I was getting some nasty hot foot. Has defiantly helped with the hot foot, very comfy shoes that I would recommend. Only issue is that the toe box is not as protective as what I was used to with the specialized shoes, if you hit a rock you feel it a bit more.
  13. I shall post some more pics after I have cleaned her up.
  14. Some more
  15. Here she is
  16. Look what I got today. Hansom Reynolds 708, full Campagnolo Chorus 8 speed groupset (incl hubs, bb, headset and seat post), cinelli bars and stem, rolls saddle, mavic open 4 CD rims. Even still has 18mm tyres on!
  17. With regard to OP and the Formula brakes, I had a set of the Formula C1s (entry level). They were great brakes and I never had any reliability issues, although not too powerful. Only problem was the pad wear. Went through metallic pads like crazy and they are expensive. Replaced them with XT8000s, the finned metallic pads have so far lasted 4 times longer than the Formula metallic pads, and they still have plenty meat left. Soon the XTs will have paid for themselves and they are super powerful, got PBs on all my tricky descents since I installed them.
  18. I have a pair of specialized atlas pro baggies with swat liner bib. Is my first pair of baggies and I always wore good bibs, high end craft and santini. What amazes me about the atlas combo is how comfy the bib is, I find it more comfy than my other bibs. Although I think it may be the thinner chamois that suits me better. Nonetheless they are great shorts.
  19. Always liked the slx look a bit more than xt. Great that there are more 11 speed options out there, can save cash on consumables like cassettes, chains etc.
  20. I agree with you on that one, I had Crossmarks front and rear on my first mtb, had a couple of lose the front wheel falls, niks lekker nice, especially as I was still very inexperienced at mtb. Replaced with a spez ground control 2.3 and it made a huge difference. It was probably the best upgrade I made, my confidence and therefore speed improved drastically after that.
  21. This will make me be willing to ditch 2x, but only in 2-3 years time when it trickles down to X1, GX level.
  22. Basil Cohen, now there is a name I haven't heard in a while. When I knew him he had a small general dealer/bike shop in Venterspost close to Randfontein, this was early 90s. The mines used to sponsor the workers and there was a track at Lebanon and West Driefontein. They would get their gear from Basil. This shop was a dream to a teenager like me, chests and chests of bike stuff, old track bikes and parts everywhere, I can still remember the smell. I bought a bunch of stuff from him, he always gave me a good deal, helped out a cash strapped teenager with a love for bikes. Western Transvaal used to do their track racing at West Drie. We would go race on Saturdays and some mine workers would always come and watch. I still remember racing a very tight Individual pursuit and the crowd of mine workers were cheering like mad, it is my fav racing memory.
  23. I love that place, have been there 3 times this summer. Never been disappointed.
  24. That nasty first climb and descent that went through mountain sanctuary park (MSP) was removed last year. I camp at MSP sometimes, they told me they don't want the monster to go through there anymore. So I doubt it will go through there this year.
  25. Put about 100km on my new XT 8000 brakes this weekend. One finger braking is fantastic. Got PBs on all the technical descents on my rides.
