  1. I have been thinking the same thing for years. In my mind doping is as prevalent in all sports as in cycling, although there is an argument that due to cycling rep which results in more stringent testing regimes, maybe there is less doping in cycling. Also the prize money in most sports is better than in cycling, so even more incentive to dope.
  2. So I had a set of Formula C1 brakes, entry level formula brakes but they worked really well. The issue I had was brake pad life. I only got about 1500km out of the rear brake pads, and they were the metal ones. With my XT brakes I recently changed rear brake pads and they had 4000km on. Seriously intrigued by the Cura’s, but the pad life scares me. Anyone else had this issue with Formula brakes?
  3. Ai that sucks man, nothing worse than getting something new and shiny and it turns out to be a turd. Hope you get it right.
  4. Was feeling nostalgic and found this article https://mg.co.za/article/2013-03-07-00-the-curious-tale-of-south-african-cycling-1 I like the mention of Basil Cohen, I used to buy bike stuff from his little trading store in Venterspost in the 90s. I was a laaitie paying for my own bike stuff and his shop was a treasure chest, and he always gave me the best deals. At that stage I never knew his part in cycling in SA, yet I have never forgot him.
  5. Lived in NL for many years, I told my wife today I miss the Dutch commentators, that American dude was aggravating me. The Flemish, well they are nice but a bit like NZ rugby commentators, know their **** but very heavily biased and obsessed with their own countrymen. But woulda preferred them today.
  6. They will be fine because Alcohol is a drug and pro cyclists are used to riding while on drugs. I am sure they all had TUEs for the occasion.
  7. Yoh, ass of steel, does the desert air do that? But seriously, that’s impressive.
  8. I was the youngest finisher in 1992 and 1993 at 14 years old for both years race. In 1992 it fell on 23 November, in 1993 it was 21 November, my birthday is 22 November. Now that you know my birthday I will be expecting a card.
  9. Vasbyt 165km.
  10. Jeepers, did he get caught in your rotor or something?
  11. This is what I do when there are many spider webs across the trail.
  12. I used to ride it when I was a laatie, with a 39-23 being my easiest gear. That climb hurt. Cracked an Alpina cr-mo entry level frame going up there. Those days there was little traffic. Also kapped 93kph going down there.
  13. I had a red one, my best tjommie had a blue one. We did actually take his apart and paint it with his dad. I remember driving around looking for Duco brush on or something like that. We didn’t spray it, we used brushes. Not quite Bogus quality but not bad for two teenagers.
  14. My new porn star name is Testo Forte
  15. I second that, the Bushido is great, it can do up to 14% gradients, so anything Zwift can throw at it. Did Alpe d’zwift on my Bushido on Saturday, it hurt.
  16. I had a red one, it was the bike I started racing on.
  17. I use my repair stand. The clamp holds the iPad case perfectly. Maak n’ plan solution but it works just fine.
  18. This is an awesome route. Beautiful views, tough climbs and some sections of really technical single track.
  19. My old Hansom Reynolds 708 Classic frame resprayed by Bogus. Frame is 1992, 708 is a rare tubeset, 531 main tubes that are rifled, 753 rear triangle. Bike has been in storage since late nineties until I hauled her out to use on the trainer last year. Decided to respray her and put modern parts on so that I could start riding on the road again, I can’t push those 90s racing gears anymore. Building her up with Campy Centaur silver 11 speed group set, Khamsin wheels and then original Cinelli bar and quill stem, original Campagnolo Chorus seatpost and headset.
  20. I can just picture those old ballies moering it on their e-bikes, reliving the speed of their youth. Not a bad way to go.
  21. The Garmin is getting your speed directly from the trainer, or from a speed sensor (if you have one on your rear wheel). Zwift takes the power from your trainer, uses your weight, the road gradient and drafting factor etc. to calculate your virtual Zwift speed.
  22. My Tacx Bushido, that can handle the 14% gradients on Zwift arrives today. Step up from my Satori Smart which did not self adjust. Looking forward to getting back on Zwift with a self adjusting trainer once Bogus finishes the spray job on my classic Hansom Reynolds 708 frameset. God the wait is killing me, but I keep reminding myself that he is the best, and quality takes time. Unfortunately I am an impatient bastard, I should work on that.
  23. Last year I was having a lovely ride up breedts on my lonesome when suddenly there were all of these maniacs, some not on mountain bikes, moering down on me. Now I know why and that it wasn’t personal. Respect to those who ride up and over breedts on a gravel bike, especially after all this rain.
  24. Nee man we can't have a guy on a SA team who can't deal with potholes. Next we will find out he doesn't like braai. Seriously though, I hope he gets well soon and has had his bad luck for the season. Some wins would be great.
