Proof that life just gets better when you get on your bike... Wasn't sure going for a ride would be a good idea in this weather, but I went anyway. And then the sun came out briefly as I got to Tokai! 😃

Good point - make sure you make a way to lock the bike to the car. That will be an issue for all insurers and certain insurers require you to have a certain thickness cable lock... Nice job!

Saturday's spin up Tokai to Silvermine... Lots of water flowing down the mountain and some nasty erosion in places... 😬

Ah, the 80's... 😄 I vaguely remember the traffic cops coming to our school and walking up and down the bike racks checking the licences and for worn tyres... I was also stopped one night riding home from scouts by a cop because I didn't have a 'proper' light on my bike (like a good scout, I'd actually rigged a torch to my handbars as my old dynamo light had stopped working...) Gave me a lecture about how it wasn't a proper beam etc and then let me go on my way. Lol, can you imagine an 80's spoed cop was time travelled to 2023 and let loose... Their ticket book would be klaar in 5 min!! 🤣

Dead... There's no power to charge them! 🤣

So this ended up sitting in my garage unused... On his first attempt to ride it, my son fell over and the rear wheel gave him a small roastie on his leg. Bought him a second hand set up boots, but I couldn't get him on it again. Until Saturday... I was watching a bike review on Revzilla on Youtube and my son was watching with me and about halfway through he says, "Dad, what protective gear did you get me for the motorbike?" So i tell him and then he says, "When this program is over, can I try ride the motorbike again?" 😃 45 min later (and thank goodness the bike started!) this happened: Whoop whoop! 🥳 Now he's keen to go ride somewhere proper... So I'll try get him out to Dirt and Dust one weekend soon... And then later he says to me, "Dad, if we go riding somewhere, I'd feel safer if you were riding with me. I think you should buy a bike so you can ride too!" 😁 Hmm... can't let my boy down now, can I?? 🤣

Can anyone recommend a bike mechanic in Cape Town who specialises in older BMW's? My old '81 R100CS has been sadly standing in the garage for some time and the list of things that need to get done has got longer and longer and I've realised I'm not going to get to them myself... TIA

Either add to your existing home policy as an All Risks item or go with a specialist like Cyclesure. Chris makes a good point, so if you are going to go with a 'turn on/turn off' type cover then make sure your home contents policy will cover the bike whilst at home as part of the Contents (and also check where you store the bike, particularly if you keep it in an outbuilding, as some policies may limit cover)... But whatever option you go with, read the t&c's...

A very slow and chilled spin up Tokai on Saturday afternoon following a kidney stone two weeks ago and a snotty head cold for most of last week... Man, I needed that ride! 😄

An early morning up the Hemel & Aarde valley... And I finally plucked up the courage to see where the Black trail that heads up left just before the Volmoed dam went... phew, proper climb that but worth the views and to ride through pristine fynbos!

I promised my son I'd take him to the Constantia Uitsig Bike Park on Saturday as my wife and daughter were out the whole day and we were home having a 'boys day'... Then I realised my wife had gone in the car with the towbar that can take the bike rack. 🤦‍♂️ But he's dead keen, so I ask him if he's up for riding to the Bike Park and he says yes. And its raining... and he's OK with that too. So we head out in the rain and to be honest I wasn't sure it was going to work. But he put his head down and slogged up Kendal Road and up and down along Spaanchemat. And then the sun came out and we ended up having a lekker time... He was pretty tired by the end though... But had his first taste of Energade 😄

Years back I did a 4x4 training course that used Fortuners and Hiluxes. The guy who was running the course was also a tyre expert and was called in for his expertise as at the time there were some issues (i think there were even court cases?) with Fortuners and rolling over. The long and the short of is that it's actually a bakkie that people were expecting to perform like an expensive SUV... But he did said they did find a problem with Fortuners: Between the steering wheel and the front seat was a defective nut... (and if you know what a nut is called in Afrikaans... ) 🤣

Lol, seeing the shadow of the selfie stick but not being able to see the stick itself in this photo reminds me of 'The Shadow Knows' drawing from Mad Magazine... 🤣
