  1. Definitely look at the Muna range. Decent quality and you can pick them up second hand quite reasonably. My son loved his Muna. Has a nice geometry that he was really comfortable on. But he's just outgrown that and can now ride his sisters 20" Silverback, which has gears and he would ride up and down the road going up and down the gears (just because he could), so the Muna has been forgotten! 😄 But now the hunt is on for a 24" bike for his sister...
  2. Chris, it's all clearly sign posted, just follow the arrows. The route below Campbell has been there a while now and there are no gates you need codes for. I was there in Jan... Didn't ride as much as I hope due to a mechanical, but it seems the Red route now crosses over the tar road after you climb out the gorge and then drops back down the other side of the valley (instead of going up and down the fields to Sumaridge... which is actually OK in my opinion as that bit wasn't very interesting - dodge steaming cow pats and wondering if that large bull in the corner of the field is friendly! 😄) The signage still indicated you can go left when you exit the gorge on the black route that circles round the dam to Sumaridge. Nice loop to add in a very extra km, scenic but nothing hectic... The single track climb to the top of Rotary way was changed as well. Bit easier now as it cuts out the loose rocky climb. Definitely try some of the Black routes before Camphill in the bluegums, I think the one segment is called 'Proper mtb' on Strava... Good fun! Enjoy!!
  3. Well done Ryder Innovation! Local is very lekker! ????
  4. A tool of some sort is a good idea - it needs to be something he would keep. To make it more personal and depending on the occasion, you could get it engraved? Years ago, as a thank you present to the bestman at my wedding, I gave him a Leatherman with just the wedding date engraved on it...
  5. https://www.cabless.co.za/home/ I see you're in Durbanville... You might find someone closer, but these guys remade the accelerator cables on my old Beemer. Cost next to nothing and were done in an couple of hours. I went off, did some work on my laptop at a coffee, came back and they were done... So your weekend ride could still be on... #justsaying... ???? Obviously you need to remove the cable and take the outer and the old cable to them for them to remake and match it up...
  6. Lol, I can imagine it's not very practical... trying to clean dried hot chocolate out of those small holes!! ????‍♂️????
  7. Thanks! My kids do have a lot of Lego - every birthday and Christmas someone gives them a set or they will use their gift money and buy a set. I said to my wife the other day they actually have enough now... Unfortunately dad loves Lego too, so I don't try too hard to persuade them not to get new sets. ???? And both kids love it and play and build really well, so if they're going to blow their money on something, I'd rather it be Lego... PS You can get those base plates in knock-off lego cheaper... ???? Just saying...
  8. My daughter has 3 or 4 of the plain base plates in different colours. She loves them and uses them to do her own builds. She's really into building houses and shops etc (she announced the other day she wants to be an architect) so it's well suited to that. During hard lockdown I made this, a Lego snakes and ladders type game. The kids loved it and and they spent hours playing:
  9. I guess it depends on the criminal... If they want to get in they will, but it is a good deterrent. We had countless intrusions onto our property even after we raised the walls. But after we put up the electric fence, we've had only one that I know of and they got in by forcing the driveway gate. In our area, it's mostly local tikheads causing most of the problems who are probably looking for an easy score, so I guess its effective against them... We installed it in 2018. It's been fairly low maintenance. One wire broke on a connection point, but that was an easy fix. Been through a couple of batteries, but that's probably mostly thanks to loadshedding!
  10. Absolutely safe! There were some incidents a while back on the Hout Bay side going up the the mast, so maybe avoid that if you're on your own, but the main trails are safe. Welcome and enjoy!! (and get your activity card asap, otherwise you'll be paying R90 odd per entry!) ????
  11. I got one the other day - it is really good quality. I've always had my ICE details on my cellphones lock screen, but figured these days my cellphone is more likely to be pocketed by someone before the paramedics arrive, so an ICE bracelet that has no value to someone else was a good idea... Just hope I never need it!

    Who remembers?

That was my late fathers beer of choice... In 88/89 we we lived in Gaborone, and did a few overland trips through the game reserves. My dad always marveled at the fact that you could drive into the smallest village in the middle of nowhere, but the was almost always one building in the village that had 'BAR' written on the wall and in it you could somehow find ice cold beer (and fizzy cooldrinks for the kids!)
  13. They are solidly made little bikes... Yeah, I can see the exhaust pipe leaving a mark or two. This one has some tape around the exhaust that looks like a dodgy old bandage, so that can stay on until I find something to replace it with...
  14. So this arrived yesterday. It's in a bit of a state and is going to need some work, but an afternoon of tinkering had it running nicely (and the smell of burnt 2 stroke oil was lingering in the air! ). It's a late 70's/early 80's Italjet. My 6 year old is very excited! Question: Is it OK to run these old 2 strokes on unleaded petrol or do you need to put in that lead additive? If I remember correctly, the leaded petrol was needed to lube the valves in the 4 stoke engines or something like that, so I'm guessing 2 stokes would not be so fussy?
  15. Good luck! Have a soft spot for Series Landys too - learnt to drive in one while on family holidays in Botswana in the late 80's and in varsity a bunch of us piled into one and took a trip from Cape Town to Swaziland and back in '95. Amazing memories! If you're going to tinker on it you will need non-metric tools, if you don't have those already... And be prepared for old bolts well and truly seized in place! PS If you take the plunge on a Series II or III, I have a Haynes workshop manual in dire need of a Land Rover to look after that you can have...
  16. Liquor ban lifted, he's at the bar having drink with mates, leaves phone open on table when he goes to toilet, mate 1 says to mate 2, "Here, hold my beer!"?
  17. Hmmm, this looks like a (cautiously) good deal if anyone is interested? https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/3020022658237063/
  18. I see they are back to using the honestly box system outside Village Cycles so you can buy permits anytime... And as always, there have been changes and upgrades to the trails... kudos to those who maintain them! [emoji106]
  19. I presume the Hemel & Aarde trails are open under current lockdown levels? Heading out that way for the weekend... Can't wait! (and where do you buy permits these days? Haven't been there for a year now)
  20. I can relate. My wife was rolling her her eyes at me when we bought her last car... I had spreadsheets comparing the different vehicles we were looking at!!
  21. If it's British and crime you're after - Line of Duty My wife and I were hooked - way too many "just one more episode" late nights!
