  1. That's for sure... The Lego quality is something else! So last night I couldn't anymore... Years ago (and I'm talking still the days of Kalahari.com!), they had a crazy special and I got the following set at about 50% off... https://www.lego.com/en-us/videos/themes/technic/42008-service-truck-137acbc2d1df4a35bec8221ddb57d08e##sp=1 At the time, I managed to stash it away unopened in the cupboard... My self restraint finally ran out last night... But the look on my 4 year old boy's face made the wait worthwhile! Got about halfway last night... Quite a complicated built but with some lekker components - pneumatics and electric motor etc
  2. So I got half a freshly shot springbok the other day... It had been cut up into large bits and so I had to trim and cut it up further... Most went to biltong and then I deboned the hind quarter (of which the leg got stuffed with bacon and garlic butter and pot roasted in the potjie pot a couple of weeks ago... hmmm) but while cutting it up I decided (and I know absolutely nothing about butchering etc) I'd found the fillet... So I put that to one side and ended up braaiing that last night... On my word, it was amazing! Just black pepper for seasoning, seared over hot coals and then moved off the heat and put the lid (of the Weber ) on while the wors and chops cooked... Cut like butter, tender and moist, full of flavor... Can't wait for lunch 'cos I've got leftovers...

    Who remembers?

For the last few years, our picture would 'compress' into a narrow horizontal band every now and then. You have to walk up to it and thump it on the top with your fist (and that thing was strong, you could really klap it) and it would come right! Then, one day, it happened again and no make how hard we klapped it, it never came right... [Removes hat, plays Taps] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bfe4TxvUOiw

Mine too, but it must have been the 'Lite' model as it didn't have the box below it... Was '76 they bought that... year I was born... Frustratingly it kept going into my late teens before they replaced it and then took it to the holiday house... Holiday house then got burgled later... They got as far as the front stoep with the TV, and must have decided 'Screw this! This thing weighs a tonne!' and left it there on the stoep!!

    Who remembers?

"An American Tale" (I think) at the then newish Tygervalley Centre. What I remember more was that there was also a James Bond (it must have been The Living Daylights) showing and I wanted to go see that but my mom said No!!
  6. This one of them by any chance? https://www.facebook.com/groups/VintageCameraDeals/ I had also emailed the Vintage Camera Deals website and Jean-Louis wasn't interested what I had, but suggested I try sell the items on the Facebook page...
  7. Thanks. Hadn't thought of Orms for old camera stuff. Yeah, sadly it seems not... It would be nice if the stuff could be sold and the proceeds pay for the kids varsity fees in 10 years time...
  8. Can anyone point me in the right direction of someone who deals in old 35mm cameras? My mom is moving and needs to clear out and still has all of my dad's old cameras from the 60's - A Mamiya slr and a Mamiya range finder as well as an Ihagee slr and various lenses from wide angle to telephoto. Thanks!

That's still luxury! Growing up, our Landy was still the one with the sliding windows!!
  10. I thought the idea of toys is that they're cheaper than the real thing?? As awesome as it is, I could never justify that kind of money for a Lego set...
  11. The result of playing Lego with my daughter on a rainy Sunday afternoon (and to her credit she thought it was pretty cool! ): Is your Lego horse boring? Only good for pulling dull princess carriages around? http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn94/stoffel30/IMG_20180805_145227_zpswe1ieqla.jpg Well, get the Pegasus Fighter conversion kit: http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn94/stoffel30/IMG_20180805_145348_zpszsxpiqnx.jpg With sidewinder missiles, bombs, flank mounted machine guns and a rear mounted crossbow, you'll rule both the skies and the battlefield!
  12. Or like these who try to hotwire Audi's and take them for joyrides? http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn94/stoffel30/IMG00069-20130420-0847_zpsec4ded92.jpg Taken about 5 years at Tokai... Bet they never left the top down again!!
  13. Generally, if you leave them alone, they'll leave you alone... I always make sure they know I'm there so that they don't get a surprise as I roll passed... Although there was one time, coming down some single track at Tokai, that there was a large male sitting on a rock on the very edge of the trail and he had a massive, fresh gash across his face from a fight he's obviously just lost (or if he won, I'd hate to see the other guy! lol). He looked a little grumpy... So I stopped and turned around!
  14. I was in the UK in 2006 for a friends wedding. Initially I was disappointed the timing didn't coincide with the British GP, but then a friend in the UK suggested the FoS… Oh my word! Like you say, even the mildest of petrol heads will be in 7th heaven! Amazing variety of vehicles and stuff we will never get the chance to see in SA...
  15. Hmm, some interesting bikes going here: https://thebikeshow.co.za/list-simon-fouries-classic-bikes/

    MotoGP

How insane was this incident from the Moto 3 race??? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56usBqctIcA Some mx skills in the mix there! Some good fortune as well, if he hit the downed bike anywhere else it might have had a very different outcome!

    Who remembers?

I learnt to ride on one very similar! Was a '69/'70 model, a 'YF5S Minor' if I remember correctly. My dad used to use it to get to the train station. My earliest memories of motorcycling were him sitting me on the tank and riding me round the garden... Ah, the smell of burnt 2-stroke still takes me back. Then it sat in the garage for years and got hauled out when I was about 11 and just tall enough and taught me to ride on it...

    Who remembers?

1984 BMW 320i that I appropriated from my dad in '95 or '96 after my motorbike packed up. He owned a motor workshop and somehow ended up with the car through that. Body work was a complete dog - rusting, duct tape over holes in the roof, one door didn't open, trim missing etc. but the engine and chassis were in good nick... Was an absolute beaut to drive!
  20. I tried brisket in the Weber once, but only smoked it for a couple of hours (basically until the coals ran out) and then put it in the oven in a dish covered in foil on low heat. Still had the smoked flavor, was fall apart tender without the hassle of having to keep the coals and woods going...

    Who remembers?

Yip, and there was a bar one as well with beers being sent down bars you had to get before they fell off the end... Tap something? And there was Prince of Persia and then the one I wasted most of my time one - Gran Prix! All in CGA graphics... EGA was then a big step forward, but then came VGA! That was the bomb!
  22. Agreed! Actually glad now that I forgot to take a pic of the wors, pork rashers and chicken kebabs I did on Monday night, 'cos it just wouldn't have compared!! A completely different aspect to braaing, we've started doing marshmellows with the kids when we braai with real wood... http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn94/stoffel30/IMG_20180406_174639_zpsaeccp0ao.jpg
  23. It is a lekker route - bit of everything: climbs, descents, gravel, single track, rocky bits, smooth flowing bits, through forests and fynbos and nice views...
  24. Saturday before last, Sumaridge Wine Estate whilst doing the red route up the Hemel & Aarde valley: http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn94/stoffel30/IMG_20180407_083021_zpsxcazduxq.jpg And then a little bit later, Walker Bay from the top of Rotary Way: http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn94/stoffel30/IMG_20180407_091416_zpsxsmtlg6l.jpg Was the first time I used the panoramic functions on my phone (Huawei P8 Lite)... it did a pretty good job compared to my previous phones!
  25. That was a good movie... If you're a Tom Hanks fan, definitely watch Captain Phillips. Wasn't sure I was going to enjoy it, and it seemed to get off to a slow start, but I found it riveting and the tension at the end hectic... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPsa62_sYHY
