  1. Mother's Day lunch... Took a piece of pork (removed the skin and salted and cooked separately in oven to make crackling) and coated it in a dry rub (made up of brown sugar, braai spice, salt, pepper and mustard powder) the night before. Then left in Weber with a C ring of coals with mesquite wood chips for 4 hrs... Served with roast veg, caulimash (my wife and mom are doing the low carb thing at the moment) and potato wedges (for the kids and I who rather enjoy our carbs)... Had a happy mother and wife on Sunday...
  2. Now the taxi knows how it's passenger's feel during rush hour!
  3. Um... the presence of dogs and cats however would suggest it's a vet???
  4. Lego sale on Takealot today, some good discounts, particularly if you want the crane set above... #justsaying
  5. Heck yeah! Sure, smaller ops (grommets, tonsils etc) might only have a R1000 or R2000 shortfall... so that's not so bad, but both births of our kids had R5 - R7k shortfalls and my wife's ACL replacement 5 years ago had over a R20 000 shortfall! So, yeah, I happily pay my gap premium every month! In terms of the op, I'd rather have to go for the snip again than to the dentist! In and out in a couple of hours. Had it done on a Friday, so could rest the weekend and read the kids the riot act that if they jumped on daddy's lap they'd catch a klap! But I had only mild discomfort and to be safe stayed off the bike for a couple of weeks, but I wasn't riding that much at that point in time, so it wasn't a big deal for me...
  6. I had an awesome ride at Hemel & Aarde on Saturday... Was surprised how much of the trail was open! Only section not open because of the fire was the climb above Camphill Farm. The route now takes you around the bottom of Camphill and then up the gorge. But the signage has all been repaired and updated and the portage at the top of the gorge has been rebuilt. Kudo's to the guys who are maintaining the trails! Some of the landscape was quite stark and burnt. And scarily, a month later, there is still smoke rising out of some of the patches of blue gums along side the tar road! But also cool to see new growth already popping out in the burnt areas...
  7. If there was ever a bike that totally deserved to be customized by bearded hipsters, it was the CX500... Man, they're ugly in their natural state!!
  8. I'm an insurance broker... Fine print is my daily life!
  9. I say go for it!! (but then it's not my R10K nor my Mrs that has to be explained to why I came home with an old motorbike)
  10. Thanks for updates... Very sad
  11. Does anyone know how badly the Hemel & Aarde trail was affected by the fire? I was there last week and had some awesome rides and my heart sank when I saw the smoke rising out of the valley!

    Who remembers?

My kids love it too... And even though there's singing (musicals are my least favourite genre of movie!), this one is like a 'kiddies' James Bond which makes it kinda cool in my book: Produced by Albert BroccoliBased on an Ian Fleming novelStars Gert Frobe as the bad guyStars Desmond Llewelyn as the motor workshop ownerAnd then of course the car that can do all that cool stuff!
  13. I was actually waiting for the Toyota drivers to chirp, "Just like a real Landy, it wooden go!"...
  14. OK, so I've never been any good at woodwork, but I was doing a repair on something at home and had an offcut of wood and so made this for my son: First time since school days that I've made anything out of wood... It's super simple, being basically 2D, but the wheels are wide enough apart so it stands on its own and my boy loved it and took it everywhere with him!
  15. Lol, I realized the other day I'm getting old... There's an NC that parks outside our office most days. I found myself looking at the NC going, "That looks nice!" and ignoring the CBR that was parked next to it!! 18 year old me wouldn't have been able to see past the CBR (or ZXR/ZZR/FZR/GSXR etc etc)
  16. Kawa, Honda, Suzuki, Yammie, KTM, Husky, BM etc... Who cares *, it's a bike! And I bet the grin on your boy's face is ear to ear under that helmet! * PS Except a Harley of course...
  17. So your South African license wasn't accepted there? When I was there visiting my sister, we drove down to Rotorua... I remember thinking how awesome (apart from all the rain! ) those roads are for motorcycling. Smooth, well maintained, twisting through the undulating 'Hobbit' hill country and then most of the car drivers driving properly would make it a fair bit safer than there! Enjoy!!
  18. Actually, according to some of Southern suburbs Capetonian's I know, anything north of Bellville is JHB!!
  19. Here you go, pic of the sarmie: http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn94/stoffel30/IMG_20181108_130639_zpskcjnqrqf.jpg
  20. Actually wasn't the best looking meal... And since, when it comes to braai's in my house, my wife sits back and I do everything I was too busy to take photo's... Although I have one of the sarmie, will that do? Really nice, but not in a traditional ribs-at-the-steakhouse type of way where you'd pick a rib at a time and eat it... The ribs are obviously very thin with zero fat. Boiling them I think was a good call and I may have overdone the boiling as some of the thinner meat fell off. But after smoking the meat was still super tender and falling off the bone. Quite a strong gamey taste, so may not be to everyone's liking. Previously, I tried pot roasted the ribs with veg... That was nice but I preferred them smoked, just added another dimension to it. And pulling the meat off and mixing with the gravy was, IMHO, a move of leftover usage genius...
  21. Sunday lunch was springbok ribs... Started on Saturday night by browning onions, celery and carrots in a pot and threw in salt, pepper, spices, chutney etc and water and then slowly boiled the ribs for a few hours and left standing overnight... Then on Sunday I smoked them in the Webber with mesquite woodchips for around 45min... and then braaied chicken kebabs and wors as well. Accompanied by some potato wedges and roast veg in the oven. And took some of the broth that the ribs had boiled in and added Bisto to thicken into a gravy... (and with leftover ribs, I pulled the meat off and mixed with left over gravy... on a toasted sarmie... )
  22. Until they get a bit older... Then you can get Technic sets again! Or… Buy them on special now... You know, like an investment...
  23. Just checking, you still around after sharing that video?? Sounds like one of Michael Crichton's books, Prey...
