  1. Mampara is on the money - check the chain length!
  2. My Maxxis eat glasssss
  3. That has got to be the easier approach!
  4. Maybe they are like the old Harvards - Apparently if you hit the gas too hard on take off and are not on the ball the big radial engine causes an immediate right turn! I think that there are many people that will drive these things for ages without incident - but put the right set of conditions together and over you go? dollar2009-12-21 05:59:40
  5. Was it a Fortuner? Saw the news - a family critically injured. Solo accident - no other cars. dollar2009-12-21 05:32:44
  6. We need to drop an oke off there early with a rifle and a scope.......
  7. You have to wheel and deal a bit. I have found a wheel builder at R150 a wheel who does a great job - in GP sadly. Also try and shop around for rims. I came across a nice set of new Nova (Road) rims for R75 each - only because they were so old fashioned although brand new. Dont get too stuck on buying brand stuff - Some chinese stuff is pretty good quality - and the price is great. The trick is being able to judge the quality without referring to the price. Last suggestion - try wheel building yourself!! It is fairly hard, but not impossible?
  8. Pleasure - remember though that if you ask 10 okes about chain lubes you will get 10 different answers. All boils down to personal experience I guess.
  9. You okes are snoep with lube hey? While the chain/cluster is still clean I spray with a aerosol wax - chain and cluster. This forms a tit gold coloured layer over the whole system. Dust does not stick to it and everything works nice and slick. Stays clean. BTW - I ride a road bike.
  10. I would lube it with wax right away - while it's still lekker clean.
  11. I ride road bikes, but do ride dirt motorcycles - I guess that similar rules apply? I would do a solid "weight transfer" (on a MX bike) before hitting the corner - tap off, move forward to "load" the front wheel. Weight has to be forward. Tyre pressure is important. Also depends on terrain though. If your tyres dont bite then no amount of extra weight will help.
  12. Firefox - if I had to buy one, that would be it.
  13. Ah. That's better. Now I can chirp. Any SUV is a massive compromise (contradiction?) of a car! "Sport/Utility"? If you want sports buy a Ferrari. If you want utility then you buy a bakkie. If you need a station wagon go and get a Volvo. To reasonably expect all the above in one neat (SAFE?) little package is pushing it just a tad dont you think? These things have high C of G's by virtue of their ground clearance and size. They have the handling characteristics of a double decker bus on tar roads and any wally can drive them at any speed. They are not generally very slow either. I particularly like the black ones with tinted windows - you cannot see the fear in the eyes of the passengers when they pass you at 180 though? Typically a moderate collision avoidance action - that a normal "car" would survive is often going to make an SUV wallow like a pi$$ed whale. One wallow too many and over it goes! In order to try and mitigate this serious design problem they use all manner of means to "tame" the whale - stability control (ha ha), suspension new tires, shocks. The only thing that would be totally effective is a rev limiter that only allows them to do 40 kph on highways and 10 kph on dirt roads. Problem solved - no more k@k from SUV's I expect a to take a bit of flack from proud SUV owners. I am happy you love them - I dont. Best thing about running out of oil
  14. One thing - I am far more frightened of my carbon forks than I am of my welded aluminium frame
  15. Agreed. If you are going to repair (weld) a frame then make sure that it is you who rides the bike. If it breaks then you will know why and you cannot be pi$$ed off with anyone. Body putty borders on criminal negligence. Try that in Europe or the USA! This is no different from using superglue to fix a parachute. You are doing something that is going to hurt someone one day!
  16. North Rand is not a happy place - at any time. I avoid it with my motorcycle and bike. It's like a drag strip......
  17. Whew! I thought it was a whole flight gone past - but toe nie! There are some humerous okes out there! Witches are bound to be a lot more fun than warlocks?
  18. One that permits the riding of brooms rather than bikes?
  19. Second (or third) Tnt. It does work - I have done it, but it is a pain in the ass. The problem is in getting (and keeping) perfect cable tension. If it (sti) clicks into 9 then things go haywire. Bought a 9 speed cluster.

    SPD pedals

It hurts to take your bike to the shop to buy milk when you are wearing slops?

    SPD pedals

Ha Ha - some of those okes could have worn wellies without it making much difference. Now, in my case I need all the help I can get. Road pedals do seem to feel better though?
  22. Ja - I am a bit nervous with an alloy frame - 230 Degs C is starting to get hot? Frames are already heat treated and I dont know what this does (if anything) to the heat treatment. I know it works - the frame looks ok and is still in service. Maybe someone knows the science? I always tell the lad doing the job to go easy on the heat - even with brazed frames. They just smile at me
  23. It does - I mean real Aluminium melting heat, not just warm.
  24. Can be done. Tell the oke not to use any heat for any reason! Sometimes looks a bit "flat" - most times actually. Chips.
  25. Very well done Boet!!
