  1. Good to hear about this. Not sure how many bike shops and dealers there are in Upington but used to work often in Kathu and those guys would also take their bikes to Upington and I suppose it would be the same shop then.
  2. I think you are missing what he says. The market is so big with so many options that you should be specific to what your definition is of "All round" before we can give more specific recommendations.
  3. Should I put a brick in the backpack?
  4. Ok it seems I might get an opportunity to get back into the game. I will propably not be able to put up the milage like I used to but it might be something. My oldest will start at a new school in September, much closer to home than her previous. I am hoping she will commute by bike the odd 3-4 km commute. Would it be considered a legit commute if I ride with her instead of taking her by car? If the answer is yes must I stop the garming and record the return trip (which most propably might be a bit of a detour back home)?
  5. Common Gauteng problem and I have had continues problems with my sinusses when I was living in SA still. Especially end of winter when the air was dry and the dust got added to the mix. Many a trip from Cape Town by plane we would fly around ORT to land from the North and then you would fly around the airport but never "see" the airport, only other planes popping out of the smog into the air. I have not had sinus problems since movig here now. The pollen does give the sinusses something to do but not half as bad.
  6. Is it wrong to think this is actually funny.
  7. He better get out to Europe asap. We don't have arm breaking rangers here ... at the moment
  8. Yip when all are back from holidays (virus swop meeting )

  10. I stepped onto this youtube video some time ago and found that very informative wrt SA History... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdmZDHVYRoA
  11. Picture? What picture?
  12. Sorry to hear and glad you still have your bike and are unharmed. Would you be able to give more info? Time of day, maybe put a mark on a map maybe please.
  13. Closest I have experienced was about 25-30 meters. Ligthing struck a palm tree in our garden at 3.00 am in the morning oh and then the lapa burnt down. Still had to do a system demo to the defence force and my eyes could not focus properly on anything as there was still ash in my eyes.
  14. I always thought they could have refined the nose a bit, but I suppose that would have made the aircraft even longer. I find it "mooi van lelikheid". Quite a piece of engineering though.
  15. The biggest thunderstorm I ever experienced was at Umhloti beach north of Durban. A storm moved from the south along the coast to Richardsbay. That night I could look at the ships parked a couple of kilometers into the sea like it was daylight. It was just the one ligthning strike after the other. Two boys got killed that night by lightning just outside Umhloti
  16. That is a cool website. Germans in general does not seem to be bothered about lightning too much. Our first school sporting event with our daughters had a thunderstorm the afternoon. As the lighting came up the people were not phased about it moving over the sports fields without worrying. I just told my daughters to stay under the pavilion regardless what the teachers say. One guy who sometimes commuted with me here in Germany went to the Drakensberg for his honeymoon. He spent most of it in hospital as he got hit by lightning in the Berg.
  17. Germany did not have a full lock down. You were only allowed to go to the shops to buy food, go to work if you could still work not being able to home office, and you were allowed to go out and do sport on your own or within the family. That pulled people off the couches to get up and walk. run and bike especially as a family but also many started exercising. We have been free to move for quite some time now but it is still remarkable to see how many people are exercising. On Sunday we went for a club ride and as we were riding past Lake Starnberg I was astonished to see how many people were on their bicycles out on the streets. Bicycle traffic chaos I am telling you.
  18. I suppose this kids' number was not up yet ... https://twitter.com/PressTV/status/1285842928255066113?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1285842928255066113%7Ctwgr%5E&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.wetteronline.de%2Fwetterticker%2Fvideo-blitz-trifft-fussballer-202007223230804
  19. Speaking of size comparisons. I loved this pic BA took when they took delivery of their first A380. They put the A380 and the A319 head to head for a pic here ...
  20. I don't want to answer for Spinnekop but I share his sentiment and will give you the reason. The Goverment in all its forms (Departments, police, military) has been doing pretty much what they like for quite some time. There are many who have dragged them to court and the various departments lost left right and center most of the time. They have been ordered to pay damages legel fees, etc. They just turn around and say well that is just the opinion of the courts and ignore it and continue as they were. So why should someone who is not far away continue to throw money down a pit where there is going to be no return?
  21. You should get out of the house more often if you do not see "roadies" do what you mentioned in the first two points
  22. Not sure when but I will try my best on my next visit to SA fly with Lufthansa to SA. They still fly the new 747-8 to Joburg (pre corona) so hope that when thing sort off turn to normal that I can get that chance.
  23. Sorry to hear.
  24. As I said before, I think Airbus produces good aircraft but the 747 will remain the queen of the skies and the most beautiful airliner ever to have flown. Not many airliners will have a career that span 50 years.
  25. From an aviation point of view the 747 is surely the biggest loser in the Covid 19 saga. Very sad to see how quickly it is given the boot. Quantas, Air france; British Airways, I think KLM as well. https://www.flightradar24.com/blog/british-airways-to-retire-its-entire-747-fleet-immediately/?utm_campaign=website&utm_source=sendgrid.com&utm_medium=email
