  1. Quick ride before work to get the weekend started. 👌
  2. Yes. In terms of the amount of damage it does to my ego. 😜
  3. 'mo tech, 'mo problems 😂
  4. Villafane + Hatten – seems like they're doing a battery swap of sorts.
  5. Dropper post failure on one of the leading ladies bikes? Just catching the tail-end of the discussion on the stream now.
  6. First ride since the CTCT. Stellenbosch to Somerset West and back. 👌
  7. LOL. Not sure what to make of this reply, other than the fact that I mentioned what works for me (seeing as I mentioned farbar). But hey, whatever blows your hair back. ☺️
  8. My (long) 2c: I think I used to drink too much immediately before a ride (race or training) and drinks that were too sugary during the ride. But I've trained myself to drink less as I got older (and fitter) – it takes time to wean (not wee) yourself to get your body to get used to needing to drink less. I also found that what I drink makes a big difference: keep myself hydrated and quench my thirst (very closely related). For me, Nuun Hydration tablets work (I've tried all the usual suspects over the years) – usually just the plain electrolyte one, but I've found I quite enjoy the one with caffeine. I usually go one bottle of Nuun, one of plain old water. Sip regularly, eat every hour (Racefood farbar or fastbar – whatever I grab out of my pocket). Oh, and coffee as soon as I wake up (just one cup). And go to the toilet when waking up and before leaving! Most importantly: I don't pee during rides. 😂
  9. I visited my cousin in Munich in 2010 – he invited me to ride the TransAlp MTB event with him (bragging over 🤫). What amazed me was the discipline (Germany, go figure) between cyclists and pedestrians on the pavements/sidewalks. Where we rode/walked the pavements were super and generally obstruction free (no poles, bins, benches in the way) and clearly split between cyclists and pedestrians. I hardly saw a helmet being worn. If you walked where you weren't meant to, you either heard the sharp ringing of a bicycle bell or what sounded like someone about to bite your head off (but in a polite way, if that is possible). When it came to intersections (and I'm talking 1 or 2 turning lanes) and it was your turn to go on a bicycle, you could go – cars actually waited. And I'm not talking the wait where it feels like they are doing you a favour and you need to knock out 500w of power to cross. They didn't nudge forward, kept well behind their waiting line, etc. i.e. you could ride peacefully. Sigh. That was a taste of what it should be like.

  11. Suddenly feeling ill again! 😂
  12. Looking at my results on RaceTec, I just realised I am now in the 40 to 44 age group! 👴 Eish, old timer! 😂
  13. I think I am over the worst. 😅 Was worried it might be THE rona. 🙈
  14. I have the dreaded stomach bug today. 😱 Must be something I sucked up off the road. 🤮
  15. I have a handful of sand stuck to my bike and two shoes full of water if the city is looking for either.
  16. Yeah, my legs can accurately inform me that 744m elevation gain was definitely incorrect! 🔥
  17. So glad I entered (on the 6th of Feb 😅) and bit the bullet to ride today! Started at 7:25 in 3C (that's the seeding you get for not "racing" since 2018, but alas. There was zero co-ordination amongst the riders at the start, so I pretty much decided to put my head down and rode at a constant (my own) pace and avoid any troubles on the road. Found a few guys who worked together well from the end of the M3 to Smitswinkel, but other than that, it was pretty much an ITT for me. Not that I am complaining - the spray from the rear tyre in front was not pleasant. Overall, I didn't have a "time" goal as such, but kept working on maintaining a 30km/h avg. speed which I managed. The support along the route, even in today's horrible conditions, was really great and makes this such a lekker event. Two gripes: - It wasn't just me, but once you got to the Grand Parade and headed towards City Hall where "B, C, D" was supposed to start (according to the map), there was no obvious signage. And it felt like they could let me more people in at a time (only one person doing the checks before letting a rider into the start area). 🤷‍♂️ But overall, it went pretty smoothly. I was there early, so was super chilled. - Seeding. Seriously? I finished 10th in my group apparently, but how some people were seeded in the groups above me is pretty amusing. I'm not hating on the riders, it's a fun ride at the end of the day, but to see some people in 2 A, B, C, D (never mind 3 A & B) battling early on along the route makes me wonder how they got there. I am at fault though, because I know your seeding is rewarded with taking part in recent events (like I said, last rode a "race" in 2018 and how are they to know what I've done since then). My point is, it looked like a lot of people were having a tough time out there, in the groups ahead of me. 😄 Anyway, I enjoyed myself! And hope everyone else did too! Weather forecast for next year?
  18. Rain jacket, deep section wheels and sunscreen. Just to be safe.
  19. If it means I can continue to use (and enjoy) Bikehub for free, then so be it. 👌
  20. And that’s a wrap from Stellenbosch! I left it late (Cycle Tour entry and training), but should be good to go next weekend. 🤞
  21. 85km ride out to Jonkershoek and back to Stellenbosch with a loop around Blaauklippen. 👌 So many cyclists out on the road this morning. Many looking worse for wear, presumably cramming last minute training in. 😅 It was hot out there!
  22. A brisk climb up and over Helshoogte this morning. 🌄
  23. Stellenbosch, this morning. 84 km loop of goodness. 👌
  24. Amazing! 🤣 The chainring is almost as big as the rim.
