  1. I vote silverback (i ride the sierra) very good value for money
  2. There's plenty to eat (proper kermis food) and drink. They have a stage where singers perform' date=' beer garden and plenty of citrus fruit for sale at give-away prices. Some home industry stalls. They have kiddies rugby- and netball day and watching the little ones play and the parent perform on the side line, is always fun. [/quote'] Sounds Great! Thanks
  3. I found the site for the ?Fees?. It looks like fun! http://www.proedieberg.co.za/
  4. The 800 was about 12K for the 2009. I really am not sure about the 2008 models
  5. I haven?t done the monster yet and my wife wants to come along. How is this ? Fees? at Buffelspoort? Is it worth going there for the day if you are not doing the race?
  6. THe 2009 model went for 9500 new
  7. Jip, I did! Yesterday was the plotte and Saturday a trip from the east to Groenies and back. What more can one ask for?
  8. Yesterday I was just once again reminded how great bunch the mtb'rs are. My buddy and I went cycling on the 'plotte' (small holdings) in PTA east. It was our first time there and even though I mapped a route on mudmaps, we still got lost. At some stage after a lung bursting climb, we ran into 2 mtb'rs and asked for directions. I think they saw the desperation in our eyes, and they rode back on the trail that they came from (uphill) to take us to the right spot and give us directions from there. Then after following there direction we got lost again! Not there fault, I just really suck with directions. Then we ran into another two mtb'rs. We overtook them and kept on our way. After a long climb we stopped and took a little breather where they caught up with us. We then asked for some more directions and then one dude left his buddy (he was struggling a bit up the hill) and rode with us up this hectic hill for about 3km just to get us to the correct turn of. AWSOME! Then we eventually got to Lynwood road. 1. To the first peeps. I don?t know your names. I just now that the one oke had Assos gear on and rode a black mongoose. Thank you sir! The path you showed us was awesome. I will definitely ride it again. Nice and technical! Brilliant! 2. To the second mtb'r. I don?t know your name either. He has a German accent and rode with a bike that had an carrier fitted at the back. The way he helped us was amazing. Your help is a great indication of the respect and help that fellow humans should show each other 3. Does anyone have maps of that bloody area?
  9. Is the Voortrekker MTB trail an alternative to Klapperkop for some hill training?
  10. Just a rookie question: Why would SRAM be the norm on the Zula?
  11. Does anyone know what wheels those are? They don?t say in the review. They look awesome!<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
  12. I really don?t know about clubs in CT ( I am in GP), but I am sure that your L.B.S. will be able to assist. Regarding the bike. I don?t think you will get a dual suspension for your budget, but a hardtail is an excellent way to start out. Just remember that the most import thing to look for is fit. Once again your L.B.S. will get the best fit for you. In my opinion Silverback offers great value for money (I ride one myself) but for your budget you will be able to get an excellent Secondhand bike. I know its awesome to get a new bike, but most of the secondhand bikes here on the hub are still in an almost new condition. Just some pointers: The frame is the most important (you can upgrade around it) so make sure it fits you Doesn?t matter what people tell you, shimano and sram are both great! Get HYDRAULIC Brakes The fork is another very import part of the bike, so get the best you can afford. The most of all RIDE RIDE RIDE. The more time in the saddle, the better M.T.B.?ing gets!
  13. You have picked the best sport EVER! Firstly I would suggest going to your local bike store. Chat to them and they will point you in the right direction. When you have your bike, you should join a club. You will get great tips from all the other in the club (and on the hub).
  14. Van Gaalens: The best singletrack in the area and a bit of a challenging climb up to the ?Griekse Kerk?. Its a nice spot to take the family with seeing that its a cheese farm, you can have a picnics there and there is a restaurant as well www.vangaalen.co.za/ Teak Place: Some great winding singletrack, a short lung bursting climb or two and a spot to have coffee as well. There is a floating bridge and Dawie the garden gnome has been seen once or twice before. Its in the cradle of human kind, so you can make an outing of it for the family www.teakplace.co.za/ Groenkloof Its a small game reserve in the heart of PTA. The terrain has a bit of everything. Singletrack, rocky descents, some climbing (at onion hill) and right next to Groenkloof is Fountains where you can do some XC riding. I personally use Fountains as a bit of pudding after a ride. You can have a picnic at Groenkloof, go on horse ride, hike and rent some bicycles for those in the family that only tags along once in a while http://www.tshwane.gov.za/groenkloof.cfm
  15. My Top 3 in the GP/NW area: Van Gaalens Teak Place Groenkloof
  16. MTB or Road?
  17. I have the MULE and its a works great but I really do think that the LOBO is better. I don?t use all the available space in the MULE and sometimes it just feels to big/overkill. If you want to carry a spare tube, multi tool, puncture kit, some basic first aid, enough fluids for a 3-4hr trip and space for a jacket, the LOBO is perfect
  18. Jip, leaving at 13:00! I just hope there isnt any traffic jams on the N4 like when I went down for the Barberton race. Drive safe peeps! Grondpad2010-02-26 02:26:14
  19. My sisters got her boyfriend a subscription for his birthday last year. He still hasn?t received a copy of the magazine. After numerous complaints they did give him an apology pack, but still no magazine
  20. I went to Dischem Olympus yesterday(in PTA East). It seems like they are out of wasp gels except for the Caffeine free ones.
  21. Will there be daily TV coverage/highlights of the event like last year?
  22. I didn?t notice the scenery. I was to tired to look anywhere else than my front tire
  23. My first ride with them was on the 6th of Feb. What distance did you do? I really enjoyed it and found the pace much higher than with my club. I think I can learn allot from these okes and will defiantly go there again. Very nice route (accept for the gun shots) and the distance is always helpful. We aimed for 60km but ended around 75km.
