  1. What did you peeps think about the race? I thought the marshalling was excellent! thanks to all the metro cops that helped. I saw rider went down on the bike just past the high speed downhill on the way out. There was another accident about 2km on where I saw a rider whose bike broke at the fork. Must have been a nasty accident. Anyone know if there are OK? Only bad thing was the wind. Other than that I really enjoyed my second sprint triathlon. It was great running the last km in the rain.
  2. The Faerie Glen reserve is excellent for some trail running. And its only R5. Cycle there, do a quick 5k and cycle back home. Works great as a brick session
  3. Jy is so reg! Ek het nie eers so daaraan gedink nie
  4. I did a bit better than my target. I aimed for a 1:40 but did a 1:29. I think there is alot of room for improvement with my swimming though. It took me 16min so I think I can cut about 4min there. If I had a road bike then I can cut another 10min of my time, beacuse allot of peeps overtook me on there road bike. My running is sort of on par (well taking into consideration that I swam and then cycled prior to the run). I dont think there were any medals. I only got an eregrade. The only water point that didnt have water was the second last one. They then handed the left over ice out to the runners. By the time I finished I heard that there were no water left on the course. That must have sucked because it was really hot! All-in-all, it was a pleasant first experience. Unfortunatly I can not do the one this weekend in Potch, but I will be there for the one in Germiston. I think the bug bit! I am alredy browsing the net for road bikes. The wife is not going to be very happy
  5. Thanks for all the advice. I managed to get a pair of TYR shorts at Runner Inn. Finally!
  6. So? How did it go? BSG/Engergade Roodeplaat was my first one as well. I just got tri shorts from Runners Inn and did it on my MTB bike.
  7. Looking forward to this series. I see the one at Buffelspoort is just 2weeks before the Xterra. Great for some preparation
  8. Well said!
  9. I hope the triatletes here will be able to assist. Where do you buy your triathlon clothes in PTA? I have tried Runners Inn (Brooklyn) but they newer seem to have stock. Cycle lab has shorts but only one type. I know about Troisport in Sunninghill, but getting there during the week is an absolute nightmare. Any recommendations?
  10. Van Gaalens is my favorite trail but the last time I went there the route markers were absolutely horrid. Have they sorted the problem with the markers yet? I really really hope so? I get lost every time I go there
  11. I went there about a month ago and in my opinion rather leave the bike at home and take the trail running shoes. The only half decent place to ride is past the security guards (while they are sleeping ) and head off left of the dam. There is a hiking trail about 5km long but that is about it. I did a ride on the one day and ran the hiking trails the other day. In my opinion the trail running was brilliant and if you have a road bike you can do a bit of hill intervals but that is about it. PS. When you get back from the ride on the hiking trail shift to the big ring. You’ll. need the extra speed to get past the guards (awake by now)
  12. I rode with another newby at Groenies on Sunday. He had the exact same bike and I am really impressed with spec. I have the SB Sierra and compared to it the Spectra is even better value for money. The improvements I saw was: Reba fork (Sierra has Tora) Alex wheels(Sierra has WTB) both tubeless ready FSA Handelbar (Sierra has Silverback Brand) Kenda Small Block UST tyres (Sierra has WTB which are horrible. Immediately replaced them with Crossmarks) Congrats. You made an excellent purchase. Enjoy!
  13. The weight is less than 2 medium sized eggs. Not heavy at all and its smaller than the 705. If I can not find an android app for my phone, this will definitely be on my to-save-for list
  14. Go to the cyclefit website. I think its done through them
  15. I recently joined the sa-active website in order to get points on my vitality. I just saw that my request for points for the MTN Sabie Marathon was declined. Its allot of points (5000) Its not a big deal but I just want to know if anyone else had a similar experience with the site? Anyone have clue why it would have been declined? I added my race number and it can be verified on race results.
  16. I have to agree. I stay in the east of PTA but will always take the drive to Cycle House in the north. I bought my first decent MTB from them a bit more than a year ago and since then went back numerous times. Every single time without exception they gave me excellent service and prices that nobody else good get close to. They definitely don't have the most attractive shop, but they give great service, advise and price. I am due for an upgrade and guess where my money is going.
  17. Any ohter cyclist doing the challenge that has a blog?
  18. How did you add your name to the waiting list? I searched their site, but can not find a place t enter<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
  19. You peeps in CT are very lucky! Whish I could live there
  20. I saw that some people got First accent waterbottels in their goodie bags. Was this only for the 75km?<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
  21. My Magalies postmortem I entered the 45km route and I have to say it was brilliant! This was a real M.T.B. route and not the ordinary ?grondpaaie? most other events have. The climbs was technical but rideable and the decent ? hair-raising!. I rode well until about 20km into the race when I got a puncture. Tip no. 1 - When you are running tubeless, be sure to check the amount of sealant in you tyre!. I didn?t and the tyre didn?t want to seal. It took me about 20min to fix this puncture because the sides of the tyre got stuck to each other. What a bloody mess. Eventually I got it fixed but 1km from there I puncture the tube. Second tip. Before a race, check that your puncture repair kit is in order. I didn?t (once again) and found that my solution was dry. Luckily m.t.b.?rs are the friendliest people around and two gents stopped and helped me. Then after about 5km the 3rd puncture happened. By this time I was so pi$$ed off I almost ate the bike. Then two dudes stopped again and luckily one sold his spare tube to me. Best R50 ever spent. From here I took it easy. Chatting to all the people on the route and at the water points. I was once again reminded why I started with m.t.b. ing. It was an absolute blast! Sometimes when you are racing an event, you forget how great the ?gees? and people are at the back. I got stuck behind the same big lady on a bike 3 times in the last 20km because I stopped and chatted at the 2 last water points. The people at the water points doest always get the recognition they deserve! Thank to you peeps. Thank you to no 436 for assisting with the second puncture and Mr 330 for selling me your tube. You are both legends! Thanks to the water point people and to all having a blast with me at the back of the field. The Magalies Mini Monster is now my favorite route, EVER! Finished time ? 3:45 Ride Time ? 2:44 ( I wasted a bloody hour fixing punctures) still worth it!
  22. Jip, I am a bit unconscious these days. I missed the ride of silence as well ( I don?t even know if it was held in JHB or PTA)! I know about a group that cycle?s in JHB CBD some evenings. Riding the stairs, pavements and whatever. Its not a group focused on jump bikes etc. Maybe they should get involved in this. They would probably know great routes, best times etc.. Anyone know who they are?
  23. How big is the group in CT and are there rides in JHB or PTA as well? How did I not know about this! Its awsome!
  24. What is Critical Mass?
