  1. I would say the silverback. The components are a bit better and I think the crest rims with SLX hubs will give the SB an edge over the Axis. I like the SLX crankset on the SB as well and prefer the Fox shock over the XFusion
  2. Anyone know if we should take shoes en helmet with for the test rides?
  3. Apparently an attempted hijacking on the road next to Rosemary Hill late last week. But like I said, I only heard a rumour and nothing I have heard indicates to that it may/may not be true. I really hope its not true seeing that it’s another area frequented by cyclists
  4. So who will be going? I am hoping there will be a couple of specials at the expo. Anyone know what brands will be represented as the website gives a list of distributors but I do not know what brands they distribute?
  5. What do you mean with “quite crazy by them”? Are there bike jacking’s in that are now as well? I heard rumours about issues at Rosemary Hill last week, but that was only rumours and nothing confirmed. Is the Bashewa are now also a red zone?
  6. This suck so bad!! On Sunday morning I was planning on taking some noobs out on the Boschkop route down the spoor, and I was actually relieved when I woke up and it rained. I was **** scared of going out on the bike after the events last week. This is not how it should be!! Anyone else felt like this the last week? My mates and I ride the section behind Moreleta, crossing over Garsfontein towards Atterburry on a weekly basis so now we have to cut that part out. I know that crimes hits every province in SA, but after reading in Bicycling the article about the old ballies riding in Tulbach, I have to say that the WC is calling really loud now.
  7. WTF!!! No 3 this week.
  8. Sho!! 2 in a week in the same spot. Hectic!
  9. Im in for the 107km
  10. Is this for commute or just a ride? In the past I rode next to the railway line to olifantsfontein (base 3). From there it can not be more than 5km to Midrand. From my house to the base 3 dam, its about 94km
  11. jcza – just a quick question. Do you use carbs before the race? Like I said a page or two back, I also use carbs on long rides and during races, but I usually only start consumption about 30min in and for me it works a charm. I think my “reserves” can manage for longer but I don’t want to bonk (again).
  12. Still my dream bike. What a machine.
  13. Hye G-man Where is this place? The website has some nice picks, but doesnt say where the reserve is.
  14. If I can share my opinion on the race: I think that this race is really an awesome all round MTB route. It has it all. Nice long climbs like Greek church, steep climbs like the concrete strips and the section thereafter, sand to kill the humour, fantastic decent where your skills are rewarded and when you are absolutely hammered, you get a nice flat part to make some distance up and recover. Then at the end you have fantastic single track and lastly you have that one part to discuss around the braai which in this case was “jou blixem”. I really want to congratulate Eric from VG’s and then the Trailseeker team for this event. The water points were great (banana loaf, marshmallows, Pepsi, PowerAde, banana, chocolates). I did not even stand in a line to get a beer afterwards. Top notch event!
  15. +1 here. I have done the same now for a while and it works. During the week I am strict LCHF. Come weekend long rides I take a bottle of 32Gi with but usually I only drink half of it. This is on rides of 5+ hours. On race day I don’t hold back and chow whatever I can find. I saw the results of this during the VG race this past weekend. The race did hurt (it still is one of the few hard MTB races around GP), but I did a good time and managed to ride where others walked. The VG race just once again confirmed that the LCHF way (with a little adaptation for races) works!
  16. An interesting article by Dr. Dwight Lundell . “The injury and inflammation in our blood vessels is caused by the low fat diet recommended for years by mainstream medicine.” http://myscienceacademy.org/2012/08/19/world-renown-heart-surgeon-speaks-out-on-what-really-causes-heart-disease/
  17. The first 1.5 to 2 km of the run of the bike is always the worst. Get of the bike, force yourself to run. Find your rhythm in the first 10 to 12 min of the pace you want to do and the rest of the run will be much easier.
  18. From the TV broadcast, it didn’t seem like they were going downhill on the ADH. It looked like they had another transition on top and they ran around the village. Like I say, that’s what it looked like to me so I can be wrong
  19. It was on one of the “Mass Participation” broadcasts. 18 Aug @ 18:00
  20. I saw the Alp D’Huez triathlon last night on SS7 Anyone here that did it? It looks fantastic!! It seems like it is after the TDF, so it would be a great trip to go and watch the last week of TDF and then do the tri. 2.2 swim, 115 bike finish it with Alp D’Huez and then a 22km run on and off-road. Freaken awesome!!

    Lost City 2013

The road race went well but I could feel the lack of training during the winter. Started in batch A and got dropped on the climb at the 40km mark. Got into a nice rhythm with 2 other gents and a lady. We worked well together but the two other gents did the bulk of the work. They were super strong! Respect. Picked up another A bunch cyclist that also shared in the work until the first group of B batch caught us with VC, VB and other A group riders. Nice big bunch and we did made great progress until a massive crash about 10km from the end just before the joining of the 60km riders. I was in the first 3rd of the group and I just heard all the crashes and saw the bikes flying. At that moment we were doing around 38/40km/h. Some people must have gotten hurt really bad and it was a massive shock to the group cause as soon as the 60km riders joined the group also split up and most just staggered home on their own. I finished in 3:08. Happy with that time. The MTB route was great (but I did hope they would have taken us through the Valley of waves). I think if I did not do the road the prior day, I would have loved just about everything of the route. Great climbs that bites really hard and some nice technical descents. At about 20km into the race I was riding with 4 other okes and we got lost. As we cycled along we saw some other riders but they were lost as well. We formed a group and whilst looking for the route we found more lost cyclists. Eventually we were about 25 riders that cycled through a township and managed to find the tar road towards Sun City. We got on it and after a short while we saw the ranch and went in there. We found the route again but obviously we were now screwed with our distance and time. I was at 27.5km here. The leaders of the race passed us not long after that. Most of the ride I rode with another very pleasant cyclist with a massive beard that did the road race as well which made the ride back much more pleasant. I took a DNF after mailing them today cause at the end I did 64km but I heard that the ride was actually 67km. I see the result are not out yet and I am glad I don’t have to try a sort that out. I heard many many riders got lost and even o the 25km route riders went astray. My sister did the 25km route and ended on 29km. Even after getting lost and so on, I really enjoyed the day out in the bush. Did a 3:11 Great two days on the bike, I just hope that the riders that went down are OK. The crash was really hectic
  22. Wow!! Ordered yesterday just before two and got it today at 11. I assembled it and it looks really nice. Just a bit heavy but I think all platform carriers are. One problem that I have now is that the lights on the carrier doesn’t work, but I don’t think it’s the carrier. A week ago a random dude started talking to me when I got into my car and asked me if my plug on the towbar is working as he has the same car and Ford cannot seem to get it to work. I replied that I do not know as I only got the car a couple of weeks prior to that. So it seems like I have the same problem but I think I will test the plug of the carrier on another car before I book my car in at Ford. WRT the carrier. It look great, seems like great quality and took about 20min to assemble. No worries here
  23. Yes, I agree. I think that is what he will do and then just get those bottles at the back of the seat
  24. Aaaa. That makes much more sense. Thank you
