  1. I can'y say anything about your specific situation and my experience is only an anecdote, but I own several Leatt products (Helmet, baggies, mtb shirt) and have always been impressed with the quality.
  2. The 2022 99er (12 Feb, i.e. tomorrow) is listed as an official seeding event for the 2022 CTCT (https://www.capetowncycletour.com/lifecycle-week/ctct/pre-race-information/seeding-and-seeding-events/), but maybe they already know what time I'm going to do
  3. I don't mind satellite versus normal, but please have colours indicate difficulty/technicality and not length. Length and elevation can be indicated by scale on the map and numbers where required.
  4. There is still the honesty box, but better because it now has snapscan (also a snapscan board when you join from Rotary way). I haven't really gone past Sumaridge, but from what I saw in late December: The barrel loop at the start is pretty fun. Camphill is closed as far as I know, but the route just goes under the farm and joins back up to the gorge part. The sharp little portage section (well, I'm sure some people can ride it, I just can't) in the gorge is less annoying while wearing mtb shoes because they added some wooden blocks. The La Vierge descent has been tamed down a little, but still fun. The route back up to Rotary way is nicer with some uphill single track for the last 1/3 or so. Coming down from Rotary way, there is a flatter singletrack option down instead of the mineshaft (I think that was what is was called?). The river singletrack is even better than before, with some mild jumping options if you are so inclined.
  5. It's because you are faster on the 29er and therefore relativity comes into play.
  6. I've done two road rides there a while ago, both on the shorter side: 1. up Hemel and Aarde, stopped at the top of the pass. Reasonable shoulder for most of the route, except a short bit close to the start. Not a lot of flat road, and its not just up on the way and down on the way back... I think the roads get slightly worse on the way to Caledon after the pass. 2. To just on the other side of Kleinmond and back - bit more busy with cars, but good shoulder all the way. Not sure how safe it is going further Both were fun rides. Sidenote - Rotary way is fun for a couple of hill repeats with a nice view at the end, but going further it gets pretty gravelly. Pretty sure going to Stanford is not safe - the road is being worked on and there are stop/go's.
  7. I'd try and get a second hand Pyga Stage (you can sometimes get them around that price range) and always be happy when out on the bike. Oh wait I did. (I know you said new but later on you mildly mentioned second hand quickly which was all motivation I needed)
  8. Look, I studied there and this is not at all true.
  9. Just for fun, I downloaded the results as they are currently: I'll try and find my analysis docs from last year and do some comparisons when the results feel a little more final.
  10. I was in mostly black Giant Alpecin kit - I'm pretty sure I remember you but have some mild memory loss due to that last push
  11. I was also there, got caught by the blue train on the blue route and kept thinking I owe the guy on the front a beer (so thanks @Matt). The group kinda broke up at Smits, so spent some solo time chasing and chatting with random people, and then at the top of Suikerbossie realised a sub 3h30 was on the cards so found another guy also from 3A and gunned it. Hardest part of the race for me was the downhill and flat part up to the end, but we made it with a minute to spare Great vibe, lots of fun and very happy with the result. Thanks CTCT organizers.
  12. Agreed. Gerrans (the aussie) just repeats exactly what Ant says when he gets asked a question: Ant: "Simon, given that this group is 5 minutes ahead and it is raining, will they be able to bridge over from the peleton?" Gerrans: "Well yes exactly, its raining, and they are 5 minutes ahead, so it remains to be seen if they can bridge over from the peleton"
  13. Mine was done in 2019 and I found the invoice. Costs were: 2nd hand Pike for ~R6.5k (bikehub) 2nd hand Monarch RT3 184x44 for R3.5k (stoke, basically brand new) Full rebuild of Pike for ~R1350 (stoke) Major Service for DS ~R750 (stoke) Sundries for like R100 i'm pretty sure they just used some existing line items to account for what the true work was. This included them sending the frame to Pyga and back to get a stuck bolt out (can't remember which one) but I'm not sure if that was stoke or Pyga being awesome by not charging for it (probably both). I honestly couldn't believe it was this cheap.
  14. It would be pretty cool (although maybe a technical nightmare) to have many different starting points with timing mats, and a full circle route so you end up where you started. Spread out the field a lot with some people starting in Simonstown and Sun Valley, etc. Probably won't work due to slower riders annoying the fast ones, but sounds like a fun day out to me.
  15. We stayed at River's Edge Cottages on the far side of Bains, and with the pass being closed to general traffic, were very fortunate to cycle over to Wellington and back with almost zero cars.
  16. I have an Icon 2.35 on my Stage, and the closest bit to touching is the sideknobs on the seatstay, and there is about a 4-5mm gap on either side
  17. Fox Flux Helmet for R999: https://www.buycycle.co.za/mountain-bike/accessories/helmets/fox-flux-helmet-solid
  18. Answering my own question with an email from Racetec forwarded by a friend: Yes, you will be able to collect your race number for the Paarl Cycle Tour on the day of the event. Registration/ number collection will be from 05:00am.
  19. Will it be fine to do the whole registration thing in the morning before the race - don't really feel like driving to CWC tomorrow?
  20. Thanks, edited the post. Looks like the SCT cancellation helped a lot in terms of numbers here (certainly pushed me to enter)
  21. Late entries are accepted on race day at Fairview from 05:00 (fees are R320 for the first race, R300 for the second race and R260 for the third race). EDIT: no longer the case, max entries reached
  22. Thanks, was just about ready to start the reluctant drive
  23. Leeubok, that is reaaallllyyyyyy nice
  24. At least 30% of the reason I have not quit my job yet is to ensure I can one day afford a second Pyga
  25. Press volume up and down at the same time for several seconds - you can clearly hear the NC going on and off. I also struggled to figure this out, otherwise they seem pretty cool.
