  1. Is it normal to still struggle after Comrades? My longest run the last month was only 9km, and I felt like dying. Im also stiff and sore even after a 5k trot.
  2. Decided to give one of my guitars some love. Solid brass bridge pins and I decided to go back to elixers. The difference is mind blowing. New pedals should also arrive this week, nothing like new gear to boost motivation.
  3. Im actually refering to shoes used by other elite runners. Like the Sauconys in the article. I ran a 17min marathon PB the first time I used Vaporflys. The shoes definitely matter.
  4. He still needs 7min to be world class competitive, Saucony will have to do some more research. ???? Kipchoge will still be a 2h02 runner in any pair of shoes.
  5. All my shoes started feeling a little flat after 500km.
  6. Maybe its just me but every social media post from Ann comes across a little whiny and negative. On the other end Camille and Gerda is always bubbly and even making fun of bad situations.
  7. I found a pair at Woodmead Nike store last week.
  8. He's obviously got a very impressive engine to do a sub 90 with only 6 weeks of running. But that 75 was indeed a pipe dream.
  9. I checked it on Google earth. Its not really hairpins but big round abouts, he should be able to maintain speed going around it.
  10. Well I read about descaling about 4 comments back..???? Im no coffee boffin, but I do like a quick espresso before a run. And looking at my kettle Im pretty sure my el cheepo espresso machine is pretty much clogged up inside.
  11. Quick question on descaling. Do you just run the solution through the machine, or do you leave in there to do its thing?
  12. You actually made this sound very appealing. A little different than the run of the mill big city Marathons.
  13. The back to back is a big carrot, after that it will take quite some convincing to get some runners back.
  14. She passed me at about 2km. And she was flying, I just shook my head, this G grouper obviously didn't listen to Parry. Who knew..
  15. I cant find my original post regarding the Garmin 735xt battery life. But for those that might be interested, I had 49% left after Comrades. Started on about 98%. Im very impressed with that, even though HR was turned off. I should get 20 hours of tracking with ease.
  16. I had it real bad March/April, much better now. During change of seasons I can't run without a few puffs before setting off.
  17. Not sure, did a vegan win Comrades before? Would be interesting to get some insight, as I did with the Gerda interview. If not.. Van Zweel: "8 weeks to winning Comrades"
  18. Vegans dont win Comrades. I'll post Canadays interview next.
  19. Winning Comrades and why you should eat your red meat. https://www.businessinsider.co.za/gerda-steyn-breaker-of-womans-record-at-comrades-marathon-2019-6
  20. The thing is I knew the first 25 would be hard, but it still caught me by surprise. I just have a total different perception of what a hill is.. ???? Not sure about walking, I had a walking strat of 1 min every 8km, but that never happened. Got caught in the flow of the group and just stuck to that. Had a look at my pacing now and I think my first walk was on 23km, Fields Hill? Maybe if I started walking earlier I wouldn't have been so knackered at 30ks. The first 10 hour bus caught me on about 32km and they were moving, I just waved them past. Second 10 hour bus just after half way, stuck with them for about 2min, then the pushing and shoving became to much. At 65km both bus drivers were walking and I passed them again. Luckily by then the one stopped playing his tambourine. I wonder how many runs these bus drivers ruin.
  21. So I totally underestimated my first Comrades. It was brutal. Started with high hopes and a proper plan for a sub 10. That went out of the window at about 25km. At that stage I was broken. From the start I just struggled to get going. Decided to tap off and save what was left. Almost died on my way to Drummond, but after that I recovered and could at least sustain an ok ish pace. Finished in 10h40, but over the moon to get under 11. There was quite a few moments where I couldn't see myself finishing.
  22. I ran 3 years and 5000km before I broke 1h40. If he breaks 1h15 I will become a vegan.
  23. They widened the road last night. Sorry.
  24. If he can run a sub 75min with 6 weeks of training he should give up cycling immediately.
