  1. You actually made this sound very appealing. A little different than the run of the mill big city Marathons.
  2. The back to back is a big carrot, after that it will take quite some convincing to get some runners back.
  3. She passed me at about 2km. And she was flying, I just shook my head, this G grouper obviously didn't listen to Parry. Who knew..
  4. I cant find my original post regarding the Garmin 735xt battery life. But for those that might be interested, I had 49% left after Comrades. Started on about 98%. Im very impressed with that, even though HR was turned off. I should get 20 hours of tracking with ease.
  5. I had it real bad March/April, much better now. During change of seasons I can't run without a few puffs before setting off.
  6. Not sure, did a vegan win Comrades before? Would be interesting to get some insight, as I did with the Gerda interview. If not.. Van Zweel: "8 weeks to winning Comrades"
  7. Vegans dont win Comrades. I'll post Canadays interview next.
  8. Winning Comrades and why you should eat your red meat. https://www.businessinsider.co.za/gerda-steyn-breaker-of-womans-record-at-comrades-marathon-2019-6
  9. The thing is I knew the first 25 would be hard, but it still caught me by surprise. I just have a total different perception of what a hill is.. ???? Not sure about walking, I had a walking strat of 1 min every 8km, but that never happened. Got caught in the flow of the group and just stuck to that. Had a look at my pacing now and I think my first walk was on 23km, Fields Hill? Maybe if I started walking earlier I wouldn't have been so knackered at 30ks. The first 10 hour bus caught me on about 32km and they were moving, I just waved them past. Second 10 hour bus just after half way, stuck with them for about 2min, then the pushing and shoving became to much. At 65km both bus drivers were walking and I passed them again. Luckily by then the one stopped playing his tambourine. I wonder how many runs these bus drivers ruin.
  10. So I totally underestimated my first Comrades. It was brutal. Started with high hopes and a proper plan for a sub 10. That went out of the window at about 25km. At that stage I was broken. From the start I just struggled to get going. Decided to tap off and save what was left. Almost died on my way to Drummond, but after that I recovered and could at least sustain an ok ish pace. Finished in 10h40, but over the moon to get under 11. There was quite a few moments where I couldn't see myself finishing.
  11. I ran 3 years and 5000km before I broke 1h40. If he breaks 1h15 I will become a vegan.
  12. They widened the road last night. Sorry.
  13. If he can run a sub 75min with 6 weeks of training he should give up cycling immediately.
  14. Can a noob runner run a 1h15 half marathon in 6 weeks. Go.. http://www.vanzweelism.com/index.php/2019/05/22/can-a-noob-runner-do-a-sub-75-minute-half-marathon-in-6-weeks/?fbclid=IwAR0svHg1upqNXO0L5UpWgwkXHcJHIbPPEkqmlee9okb6ne5nAwS-chjHZFo
  15. Im going to climb on the rant wagon. Im a novice, and was really looking forward to getting some nice official Comrades gear. There was absolutely NOTHING. Unless you wear XL. No other sizes available. The cheap iron label would probably come of after one wash as well. That said the shirt in the goodie bag is really nice quality.
  16. They were all standing around at the expo, not looking very impressed. Some were even allowed to get their race packs before being told they cant run.
  17. Dont underestimate the Maxed shoes. They put a great deal of R&D into all their shoes. They even have running specific shoes in very small sizes.
  18. Top of my feet are quite high, so if I lace too tight it gets painful, another reason why I prefer a narrow secure fit. I dont use lock lace technique but I do use that last lace hole.
  19. I actually wear smaller running shoes than my day to day formal shoes. Going against every single expert opinion on Googles. *shock and horror*
  20. To me it makes sense that your foot will slide forward in a wider shoe, and that can cause black toe nails and blisters. The narrow fit definitely works for me. I tried Innov 8, wich is much wider than my Salomons, and for the first time I had blisters on my soles and in between my toes. But like I said before, everything depends on the shape of your feet. I have long narrow feet, I need a shoe that fits securely. Anything more than a 5mm gap on the front and sides and I get toe issues and terrible heel slip.
  21. Urgh. The taper got hold of me properly. Feeling down, stiff and just bleh. Luckily only two more days of work, then I can start avoiding all the sick people.
  22. Narrow, better fitting shoes solved my toe issues. I have skinny feet, so in wide shoes they slide forward and bump against the front and sides. In a narrow shoe my feet are much more secured. I run with a 5mm toe gap with no issues at all.
  23. It seems like all Comrades runners on Strava are injured???? Is this normal or is it the nerves? I took 2 really easy weeks after my knee niggle, its getting better every day and my legs feel strong and rested. Now to stay healthy for the next two weeks.
