  1. Exactly, lots of veg, good fats/oils and meat
  2. I just finished listening to the Matt Stone podcast on Jimmy Moore's site. I do feel he has some very good points there. I have also read his book on metabolism, "Diet Recovery 2" I have also read Taubes, Volek/Phinney and Noakes etc, and I believe what Matt Stones speaks about, in that the more we study about all this, the less we know. I feel we tend to get very focused on the tiniest little things, as can be seen here and the old version thread, such as BG spikes and heart rates etc etc. The simple truth is that there is simply not enough long term studies to tell whether any of these LCHF diets are any good for us. Everyone gets a big fright when their numbers are not spot on and start to question every little aspect of their day. Surely this is not a way to live? Surely a sensible, easy to follow way of life is the only sustainable way. We know that starvation (calorie restricted diets) doesn't work. We know low fat is not good when substituted with refined carbs. But to sit every time we take a bite or drink at draw blood samples and test, test, test is not normal or sustainable. (Please note Htone, this is not a dig at you, your case is a bit different being type 2 and all that.) For every study that says that carbs are bad, there are studies that say the exact opposite. What if we wake up one day and realise (studies show) all this LCHF stuff is wrong? We are a bit stuffed then aren't we? The 1 thing Matt states is that we must not put all carbs in the same category. Refined carbs (sugar, flour etc) are not the same as vegetables and the such. We pretty much know that the refined carbs are the bad ones as can be seen by the various diseases of modern man. The oils we use for cooking are also bad for us. Many cases that Matt has studied can even lead toward the LCHF way making the insulin problems worse in the long run. It may seem good for the short term, but eventually lead to problems in a different way. I think where he is misunderstood is his HED (high everything diet). The theory behind it is to simply break the dieting cycle. Many people simply try this way of eating and that type of diet without success. He is simply wants to break that and then get people to eat healthily. I like reading both sides of the arguments, as I believe that we like to lean one way or the other and then attempt to convince people that it's the right way.
  3. I had a similar problem, but don't like the 5 10's, too "pose(y) for my liking. So I bought some Scott Trail MTB shoes and Crankbrothers Mallet. That way I can unclip and pedal flat when I want to and stay clipped on the flats and open hills.
  4. Audi??? Check the badge near the stem
  5. Correct TW. Covie, go read the chapter from Noakes book properly (Challenging beliefs)
  6. I believe in the right to life. But if you commit murder or rape, you have taken away someone else's life and you therefore give up your own right. It is a choice you make and there must be a consequence. Bring back the death penalty. Only way to deter this kind of thing.
  7. I don't know when letter is from. The reason I say this is that a year or so ago, here in the central berg, the local school children were given yellow bikes. There were plenty, maybe 50 or 60? Anyway they were everywhere for a while. Now?? I haven't seen one in ages. I don't know if they broken or stolen or whatever, but is very disheartening to see them disappear so quickly. But a lovely gesture from the kid in that letter
  8. Hahaha I had a mate that did something very similar with a Navara. Dealere was not happy
  9. Thanks. Will try that. I was looking too specifically under computers and tech.
  10. Hi All I am looking to get a gps watch to track workouts. It will be used for running, cycling and on the motorbike. Basically just tracking heart rate, distance, elevation etc. Any recommendations?
  11. Just do it the way we load motorbikes. Straps over the bars and pull down (can lock out forks if you wish), one on each side. If you going over very rough terrain, add one strap or elastic thingy at the back to keep it down over bumps (because a MTB is lighter than a motorbike). Easy and cheapest way
  12. That stop is insane. Alsonso must only have time to stop, put it into first gear and go. Amazing.
  13. so what is the result?
  14. Cashews are also high carb.
  15. Eat more protein. You eating a lot of carbs (bread, fruit etc) and very lttle meat etc. Protein helps to feel fuller for longer. Google Tim Noakes's theory on low carb diets. Works for me.
  16. I would guess you getting sick
  17. I was (when I started cycling a few moons ago) once passed by a farm labourer on an old bike. He was motoring along. I tried to keep up, but I only caught him when he stopped for a pee. When I got to him he offered me a smoke. He then got back on his bike, smoke in mouth and proceeded to whip my butt again. Thankfully I have got better now.
  18. Winterton??? Home of Berg and Bush..... plenty riding
  19. It does not have to be saturated fats. If I recall, avos, millk (not in induction) and olive oil type fats are the main ones to be used.
  20. Anyone?
  21. I want to get my daughter a JD BUG for her birthday. I believe there is new one out. Any idea where I could find online info for this, or at least some pictures?
  22. Who is Mighty mouse?
  23. Sheesh some of you okes can moan . So what if you had to walk a few hundred metres to the start, surely you should be fit enough for that. And the seeding story, how is Mr Price and ROAG supposed to know who you are if from somewhere else? Must they screen 3500 riders and make a guess from there? I come from a motorbike background and can really run the singletrack faster than most, but couldn't because of strating at the back. I will just have to do more events and get better seeding for the next time. Personally (for my first ever event) I thought it was well run and marked. Registration was a breeze and questions quickly answered.Having nothing to compare it to though, I loved the event and will definately be back next year. I need to train though. I think it may be helful for the hillclimbs.
  24. Is it necessary to have a bike mount and a head mount, or will just the headlight do???
  25. Thanx guys.
