  1. It appears that most responses assumed you were asking about tubeless. Insulation tape is for insulation. In an emergency you can use it to prevent damage to your tube, but it leaves a sticky residue. If you do use the insulation tape, increase it's chance of success by filing off the protruding bits of the spoke ends ( which is what damages your tube)
  2. It's always encouraging when cyclists look out for each other, that goes without saying. I find it offensive when people make value judgements based on people's dress, their, skin colour (I hear the chorus "Oh no never, not me" in the background...), their economic status, etc. Simply put: A black man in overalls with his stuff in a Checkers packet may well be one of the guys working on a nearby building site. He could well have bought that cheap Diamondback and probably uses it to commute, to save money and possibly even to get fit. (You dont deny him that, I'm sure?) The general assumption seems to be that he couldn't possibly actually own that bike. That is offensive because it is inherently racist.
  3. I'm just waiting for the day some nosy tosser comes up to me and asks me where I got my bike from.......just because I don't "look the part".
  4. What the man said Thanks for the lesson
  5. What a bullsh*t response! How about actually DOING something about it? If you read the original post, it was about the driver of a branded vehicle.....not about "the Complete lot".
  6. "This right" "That tree" Hee hee Karma wins every time.
  7. The glitter puts the fun back into having punctures. Instead of going "oh fork I've got a puncture", you're all over the place "like, hey, like check the glitter"
  8. Correct. Funny thing is that my latest order I specified normal postage and they DHL-ed it. Top notch service from DHL and CRC.
  9. Yip, all the ingredients in an old tin and then gently heated over a gas flame (not a good idea due to risk of fire, better to use electric stove) I've seen videos of people using old chip fryers to heat the oil) My mix was carefully researched and then modified by what I had on hand and also some poetic license. Mostly paraffin wax (about 80%, some beeswax (about 20%), a teaspoon or so of graphite powder and then some cutter bar oil for the stickiness. Once a week, chain off, wipe down, clean well and lower into the hot (very liquid, but not bubbling) mixture. Stir the chain around with a piece of wire for a while. The theory is that the heated wax mixture displaces all the gunk from the annular space around the roller (where the lube is actually needed) You then hang the chain up to cool down and re-fit. Interesting was the amount of muck that collected at the bottom of the hot wax tin. Nice in theory, but wax is not an ideal lube in this situation as it gets squeezed out of the pin annulus and then doesn't creep back as an oil would. My chains have never been better, but I honestly feel that it was because of the very thorough weekly cleaning they were getting. I am now using the Rohloff oil and sometimes Chain-L No.5 and also a homemade mix. At the end of the day it's about cleaning and lubing (with oil, not wax).
  10. Maybe race organisers could give you the option of donating the equivalent value of your medal (i.e. what it costs them) to a cancer support organisation? These damn medals are just a waste anyway...flamesuit on..yes, I know your children love them, your inner children
  11. Graphite works on locks, not too sure about chains. I am not ashamed to admit that I have even done the hot oil/wax bath trick. (OK, JB's not listening anyway Paraffin wax / bees wax / graphite powder / cutter bar oil, heated up in an old tin . Regular like clockwork, every Sunday afternoon I removed the chain and popped it into the hot oil bath. Then hung it up to dry. (I was rotating three chains at the time while training for the Dash) Needless to say the chains were spotless and everything was silky smooth. Not sure which of the components did the trick, but my guess is it was the rigorous cleaning the chains got in the hot oil
  12. "curated by local influencers" ffs who do they think they are fooling? BikeSnob summed this up all quite neatly.
  13. You're going straight to hell for mentioning the J***** C******* word on a cycling forum. Consider yourself warned....
  14. Looks are part of image, and that's crucial.
  15. Come on guys, there's a race on, leave my car alone
  16. Yes, at the time it seemed wild and crazy, but not actually in anybody's long-term interests. If anything, it's shown that responsible cyclists and landowners are on the same side. I really hope that a sustainable long-term solution is worked out.
  17. Not sure Dean, I'll find out from David in due course. Just glad there's a way forward without fighting.
  18. Thanks to Gerrit for playing a key role in resolving the Leer access issue. I've always felt that there is a better way than fighting. Watch the press for the Dikwielkommando Medal Parade where Comrade Pretorius will be suitably rewarded.
  19. How on earth did you know I was looking for this diagram an hour ago? Thank you!
  20. Fibreglass or carbon plus a gusset would sort that out. Just a pity that Coega and Vuvu are so far apart.
  21. I would fully support an initiative to stop "rogue" riding. Disregard for private property is unacceptable. Regrettably there are also situations where public roads and rights of way are closed by landowners.
  22. You get 500 extra bonus points for the title !
