  1. What we need is some of this...QED
  2. The rare ability to drunkenly run over five runners is a skill this country could well do without.
  3. Imagine, just imagine if they'd said something like "oops, mistake, how would you like us to sort it out?" You'd be raving. For 5% of the price of a BB they risk losing a customer? Hell boy, they sure as hell don'y value you. Move on.
  4. Freedom Front Plus ?
  5. Lookin' good. Bring it to meet it's cousins.
  6. When I read the title I thought this would be about some blonde who pinched your backside or shoved her hands down your pants. But then I guess that's just me.

    How

If the saddle hurts, take it off. You will probably soon learn to appreciate the concept of relative comfort.
  8. John, John, John. Did you have to fan these flames
  9. Vesconite for the win, failing that, shim them with the standard bearing shim as supplied by your local soft-drink supplier. Or bring them up to JanBoom se Bak en Fietswerke and it will be sorted You need a break anyway. More seriously, given the light load/duty, you could even "shim" the bearings with Pratleys Plastic steel.
  10. It's called Thar and I know why. It's an old whaling term (thar she blows) and they use it quite specifically in the case of this saddle. They are not so obliquely referring to some, I think the term is, lump-of-blubber-with-too-much-money-and-not-enough-brain, as in "let's see if we can harpoon another bunch of them into buying this saddle". And I have no doubt they will succeed.
  11. Ha! Well-painted nipples, sign of a thorough maintenance programme Please keep me posted if you do implement, there are some details that would make the world of difference (drill diameter, thread size, nipple spec, etc
  12. Old-fashioned "galseep". I found a German brand in Nam that works a treat. It's made by Denkmit and is called "Gallseife". As usual, WinkyPedia has the full story Bile soap[edit] Bile from slaughtered mammals can be mixed with soap. This mixture, called bile soap,[1] can be applied to textiles a few hours before washing and is a traditional and rather effective method for removing various kinds of tough stains.
  13. I know you REALLY want to ride, but the Tafels are helping keep your eyes moist.......
  14. Never fear, you will have more company than you ever dreamt was possible, all crowding around you and cutting in front of you and doing stupid stuff that you'll wish you were alone! Enjoy it
  15. Any post that mentions balls and nipples is sure to attract attention, so here goes..OK, I know this sounds Freudian, but.. I have thought of tapping a thread into the end-cap or axle housing that takes a grease nipple. One would obviously need to remove the grease nipple for riding and replace it with a capscrew or similar, but at least you could force clean grease in and push the muck out the far side. ? Anybody ever done this? Some of the Santa Cruz bikes have grease nipples.

  17. Question: Why would a short chain make it skip on the two smallest sprockets?
  18. Ja swaer. Bela Bela has a history in that regard. In the 1960's it (then Warmbad) had a traffic cop on a "mouterbike" what gave out fines for everything. He waar called Oom Frikkie van Wyk. They are just carrying on the tradition of protecting us from ourselves...
  19. After they've collected a fat fine and then whined about it on the hub?
  20. Bummer. And the Aussenkehr Cycling Lifestyle Emporium is totally out of stock on seal kits I hear. At least there's Windhoek, Tafel etc I'd be interested to know what the problem was when you get it sorted.
  21. Thanks for the reply. We are coming at this from different angles, but I respect your viewpoint. I guess it's just that I am very wary of anything that mainstream media punts. This is all purely academic for me because I: 1. Chose my parents carefully, 2. Eat carefully, 3. Exercise, and 4. Am as maergat as I am hardegat
  22. I built one years ago, took ages (lots of lathe time, and even more grinding and welding. Fancy bearings, etc. Got the bike onto it and after a few minutes I looked outside and thought "what the hell am I doing inside" It helps that I live in a small dorp and can ride pretty much when and where I want to. The trainer? It got cut up and used for other projects.
  23. I am not a medical doctor, which is why I am asking questions and not making pronouncements and not advising people what to do (in terms of taking statins or not) The fact that there are so many eminent local and international experts who have come out strongly against the use of statins has caught my attention. To the layman, it would appear that the case for statins is not entirely clear, which should raise alarm bells to anyone on them. Finally, I am always suspicious when people attack the messenger (as is happening to Tim Noakes and others) because it begs the question "why are they (the pro-statin lobby) so sensitive? ".
  24. Obfuscation. The question is about statins and their side-effects. And their questioned efficacy.
  25. This one. http://www.proteinpo...3h6XXCk.twitter An exceprt from it: Statins do not decrease all-cause mortality in the vast majority of people. Long-term studies have never been able to demonstrate that women of any age or with any degree of heart disease live longer by taking statins. The same long-term studies show that men over the age of 65 live no longer by taking statins. Men under 65 who have never had heart disease – and were talking actual heart disease here, not just an elevated cholesterol level – gain no longevity benefit from taking statins. The only small group of people who have been shown to benefit from statins are men under 65 who have had a heart attack. But unfortunately that benefit is small. Multiple studies have shown that taking statins does reduce both the incidence and severity of heart attacks. But these same studies don’t show any increase in longevity for those taking statins (other than the small benefit for men under 65 who have had heart attacks). Why. Statins simply trade one risk for another. Take them and you reduce the risk of a heart attack but increase your risk for cancer, diabetes, kidney failure, and side effects related to the drugs themselves. Many people die each year from statin-induced side effects. Despite what anyone may tell you, statins are not benign drugs. edit: copy and paste
