  1. That sounds great, perhaps I should bring my dad's original 1954 MG TF and join you..... I'm starting in M group since I haven't ridden a road race in over 12 years and my seeding was obtained solely by riding MTB events. Start time is 07:04am.

    Saddle

My girlfriend is a hug fan of the Specialized ladies Jet saddle. It is white, has gel, is carbon re-inforced and has a titanium rail.. Best advice I can give you is to ask your local bike shop for some loan test saddles from Specialized and Fizik and go try them on the trail...
  3. Really nice car, congrats with your purchase. Just a word of advice re the E46 models. Their cooling systems are their downfall. I purchased a 2nd hand one and 6 months after consistantly having water loss I found out that my cylinder head had blown and that was after I spent R10K at BMW on a new header tank, pipes and also a brake servo pump (runs off the exhaust cam). Traded it in on a brand new Cooper S and I will say, maintenance plan is the way to go. No more worries about unexpected costs, which can cripple a person. That being said, perhaps I got a dud car and perhaps your car will run like a dream. Enjoy your new car
  4. Carrying a gun.... hmmm, probably have a higher statistic of blowing one of your legs off while negotiating some awesome singletrack and forgetting to set the safety in the "On" position.. And cycling with one leg will not be fun for the rest of your life.. Seriously though, I think PepperSpray is the way to go provided attackers are unarmed. If they are armed, do not resist, hand over your bike. Afterall, if you can afford a Mac bike, then you should be able to afford the insurance on it. You life is worth much much more.
  5. Awesome bike!! Shame man, thats a real pity.. Now about that elbow, it looks a little bent... Are you sure it doesn't need truing?? HA HA!
  6. Ja Morewood, this topic is gonna go round and round...PSST, can you top me up with more popcorn as Im almost finished! LOL!! Just joking everyone, but seriously, carry on with the topic as I am enjoying reading different viewpoints.....
  7. Like everyone has mentioned, it is hard to hit the nail on the head... I have also had knee problems within the last month and have also been riding a " Correctly Setup" bike for about 5 months now. Participated in the 3-day Oudtshoorn Marathon and also had knee niggles set in around day 2 which made completing the race a big challenge. I can contribute my pains to the following: 1. Only doing training rides of around 60km, while the stages were > 96km < 103km's... 2. Pushing too hard on Day1 as the pace was fast and was caught up with a lazy pack and led for about 20km as no one was keen to do the work! Managed to finish in the top40 that day 3. Pushing heavy gears and not spinning enough (cadence was under 80) 4. My core training and strength training fell by the way side before the event. 5. My saddle slipped backwards on the saddle rails, resulting in my knee not being directly over my pedal axle!! I think this happened slowly as I found slight little niggles prior to Oudtshoorn and thought I was maybe just training hard... I decided to eat my oats in the morning and tighten the two saddle bolts with gusto! Has not moved lately. The human body is complex and if one thing changes on your bike or one muscle is not supple on the day and decides to remain tense, then other muscles will compensate for the stubborn one.. Your knee could be linked to weak abductor muscles or it could be that it is not tracking correctly or your ITB could be inflames... the list goes on. I hope you find the source of the problem by trial and error or perhaps by physio. These issues have for a long time annoyed me as it effects my efficiency on my bike. Good luck!
  8. I am not a doctor and can only speak from my own experience. I was diagnosed with hyperlipodemia (high cholesterol) at the age of 27. My cholesterol count was 10.5. I was not overweight or obese at all, I stand at 1.70 meters tall and weighed 70kg. It was genetics courtesy of my father... If you say that this kid was fat, then he could also be a candidate for high cholesterol based on diet and family history. The best thing to do is to go and have a thorough blood test done and see what Pathcare sends back. If he is low on energy then he could also possibly be showing signs of being a diabetic. I am not meaning to scare anyone, but this is often the case for people with high cholesterol. Its a known fact that most people in South Africa (and the world over) do not know their own cholesterol levels and have never actually been tested Not meaning to deviate off the topic of supplements, just wanted to raise a potential issue. On the subject of supplements, before you take them you are meant to consult your GP anyway, as indicated on the product label.. Im sure none of us really have?
  9. I would definitely have a much wider look around... Don't rush into buying this bike. You seem to have a good heart as you are giving this to your buddy as a gift... but he might hate you for making him ride a cart horse! Seriously dude, a decent hardtail would be better than this entry level full susser... and atleast he will thank you for it Good luck with your choice.
  10. I have the same issue with my Cervino Expert tubeless rims. They are coming up to the 3 year age mark and are also corroding around the valve( where the sealant accumulates due to it drying out from constant inflation).. As I treat my bike and accessories with care, and have only used Stan's sealant since the rims were new, I have to direct the cause at the Ammonia that is used in the sealant. While I beleive that Stans is very good, I see no reason why they cannot start manufacturing their products without Ammonia like other brands do.. Its a shame, as when the corrosion eventually makes the metal thin, it will probably be time for a new tubeless wheelset upgrade...Unless I get brave and try some alumnium welding / brazing...
  11. Hey Chain-L, I agree with you regarding choosing the correct lube. Chain-L has obviously treated you well throughout the Epic and so it makes sense to stick with what you know. Perhaps my original choice for Oudtshoorn was not a good one. Once I applied Squirt lube at the first water point I did not need anymore for the rest of the race. I will take your advice and look into your product. Its always nice to find something that works better than one's original preferance. By the way, thats impressive mileage that you have achieved on 2 x XT cassettes.. I can tell that we both have a good cleaning regime in common.
  12. Cannot agree with you unfortunately... If you had been at the Oudtshoorn 3-day you would bear testimony to the dry squeeky drive trains that everybody had. There was definitely reason to apply lube at the water points and what is important to know is that the marshalls did not merely just apply it. If you did not ask for it, you never got it. So you were not forced into using a different product. I can show you a cassette that has done a few thousand kilometers and that I have ridden with for over two years and through two chains and the teeth still look respectable. People would never believe me when I showed them. It boils down to proper care, cleaning, maintenance and of course, regular lubrication.. You for one should know this Chain-L?
  13. Thats really impressive. Its great to see a product from South Africa giving the Yanks a run for their money... Today I feel somewhat "Proudly Souf Efrikan"
  14. I haven't had time to even see the list but I just wanted to add my 2 cents worth... 2 weeks ago I rode the Oudtshoorn 3-day full Marathon and it was a blast. On Saturday (longest stage, 103km) I unfortunately broke my chain 30K's in and was dropped by the pack. This was due to the dry dusty conditions and I could hear that my chain was dry even though I had lubed it first thing in the morning. I am not knocking any products and I am not affiliated with any brands, but obviously different lubes are specific for different conditions. I was using white lightning "clean ride" for Tokai type conditions and that seemed to work well but switched over to Squirt for the dry conditions and boy did it work well!!(Squirt were at the TransAlp and were co-event sponsor at Oudtshoorn and offered free lube at the various water points for the duration of the marathon weekend). My brother and I actually helped the brand manager of Squirt limp home on day-3 as he had a massive hole in his rear tyre and he rewarded us with some free lube afterwards . What a booitjie!! Since then I have used the Squirt and it seems very impressive for dry riding conditions.
  15. Fork: SiD WC: Pos air: 60psi Neg air: 60psi Sag = 25% Shock: RP23: 110psi (pump to 120psi to factor in air loss when disconnecting shock pump). Sag = +- 8mm with full travel obtained when shock in "open" position. I weigh 65kg.
  16. This Thursday should be cool, I will be there. I stand to be corrected but Magic Light could be a knock off of Magic Shine?? Very confusing as the brand names seem to differ on a totally identical housing and product.. Obviously some Chinese company making them for various Brand names
  17. Nice wheelset.. By the way, did you buy them brand new?? I remember you used to be a fan of the Conti MountainKing and RaceKing combo (on your old set of wheels) and I wondered why you have gone over to Schwalbe?? I would of also liked to of seen the white American Classics for a "style" comparison.. Either way, sick wheelset buddy! I'm gonna nick them at the next race, better lock it up LOL!!
  18. My old Polar F55 also gave that message! The rear cover is attached by four very tiny screws. I used a jewellers screwdriver and very carefully removed the rear cover. Fitted 1 x CR2032 button cell, replaced rear cover inspecting rubber seal for any dust/hairs and good as new. Perhaps when you send it away to Polar they will do an additional pressure test... but I do not swim with mine so this is not an issue. On my RS800CX PTE, the battery can be replaced by the user by using a coin.
  19. I just donned my weather cap and it's already raining in Simonstown Looks like it may be my spinning bike tonight Perhaps if I switch off the bedroom light and cycle in the dark with my night light it may feel slightly better
  20. Im also keen. Can't wait to mount my steed ... Last time I road was Sunday. See you fella's later.
  21. I'll ride with you. You can always count on me plus I need the saddle time
  22. This is very interesting... What is your resting HR? What was your average HR over the night? My resting HR taken anytime during the day is roughly 47BPM... I check often just when I wake up and I normally am between 35 to 40BPM... Everyone's body is different but obviously resting HR is linked to one's fitness level.
  23. Will also decide a little later. With Oudtshoorn coming up I am not looking to get sick, especially from a fun training ride. Its really not worth it. By the way, can we try and keep this topic filled with positive conversations rather than negative remarks... This topic is meant to discuss possible time / day changes and is also here to all the gather night riders together... I don't think this topic was started to raise anyone's blood pressure?
  24. ahhh, back to the rules..... Rule #1: Never change the Deal Rule #2: No names Rule #3: Never open the package Rule #4: Never make a promise you can't keep These are the one's I remember..
  25. Yip, This is the same group that meets at the Total garage, Tokai Road most Thursdays at 18:30pm... Its been re-branded "Tokai night rides" as some people may not support Bridge Cycles. We thought the "neutral" approach would be better
