  1. Remove planks Sand lightly with 80 or 100 grit (by hand) Give a really sloppy coat all round of 50/50 raw linseed and terps Slop same mix on cross members Replace with new screws and a 5mm gap Slop another coat of 80 linseed and 20 terps
  2. Post us a couple of pictures - you will get better advice
  3. Despite its lowly reputation, bamboo may be the strongest stuff on the planet. It has greater tensile strength (or resistance to being pulled apart) than steel, and it withstands compression better than concrete
  4. The safest option is placing the boards on top of the beams - I know that way you lose some space. Using number 8 or even 10 screws will add a huge amount of strenght - and rivet washers are the ones to use. Just be aware that if it does come down you will have a problem claiming from insurance. Sorry for being a pain in the butt but you can never be too safe.
  5. How did you attach the ply to the trusses and what is the distance between the trusses ?
  6. Get yourself a Freud blade Cuts like butter Thin kerf if your stock is not too thick Choose the correct blade for the application though.
  7. Grebel I do cabinetmaking I do not use nails or brads for construction - only chipboard screws. Screws grab and pull and that force makes for a fairly sturdy joint. A nail or brad does not have the pulling force it basically only holds things in place and when you have a racking force on the structure the joint tends to pull apart. I use brads and STAPLES to attach backing and drawer bottoms and a finishing nailer to add trim
  8. I NEED one !!
  9. What's with the caps - majority ???
  10. I guess I know what I will be doing about this time next year.
  11. I have to disagree with you - for riding it is ok (lots of resistance) but you will know all about it if you came off and made contact with that surface - will cut you to ribbons.
  12. That my friend is Die Muishond's chihuahua
  13. tubed - remember that there have only been two deaths due to trauma in the history of the race. Yesterdays and then one where the course was over Oukaapse Weg where the cyclist hit a pothole and went down on Oukaapse Weg on the downhill.
  14. You cannot change human nature - just when you think it is a fun ride there will be some who think otherwise.
  15. Why not just flatten the hills ???
  16. It's nonsense - doing the 2nd lap is as old as the race itself. Organizers want to stop it - then they want to make money from it - bollocks I say - just let it be. It's part of the tradition.
  17. It's an art. Make sure you use the right blade and speed and reciprocating setting
  18. Some may not agree but I would think twice about taking beginners on this route - not all that technical but physically tough. You NEED to be fit to enjoy this one Rather take them on the Constantia Greenbelts from the top of Southern Cross Drive to lower Tokai Forest and back. Really nice trail.
  19. Grebel - satin is great Some matts are really dull The surface will still be smooth - they add an anti-refractive to the mix.
  20. The problem with most commercial products is the stickability to Balau - Balau has a very high natural oil content When I do do decks I just put a mix of 50/50 raw linseed and terps as first coat and second coat a week later more like a 75/25 mix. (1 coat per year after) Liberal coat. You do need to redo it once a year if you want it spick and span but preparation is just a good wash. Make sure well dried before application. If you apply in really hot weather it will soak in a bit better.
  21. I would suggest a product called Bourne Gleem If you can get the old recipe one - the one that stinks like crazy while drying then even better think it might be the Bourne P6 http://www.bourne.co.za/ Remember the three P's preparation - preparation - preparation.
  22. Best ride at the best price Harkerville was R30 per day may now be R35. AND it is well maintained.
  23. I have one of these and they are great - deadly accurate. https://www.banggood.com/0-225-Degree-400mm16inch-Digital-Protractor-Angle-Finder-with-Scale-p-951633.html?rmmds=search&cur_warehouse=CN
