  2. I really struggle with trainers and motivation. Regular spinning classes seem to work better for me over winter - just choose your instructor carefully (i.e. an actual cyclist rather than a gym-spinner). I have one of these barely used for a steal if you're interested and can collect - http://85.18.107.137/elite/jsp/c-Prodotti.jsp?ID=0011056

Or, if you have one, get the iPad edition for about ZAR50, or 13 issues for around ZAR330 - great way to buy an excellent mag...
  4. I know I'm in the minority here but I could never get on with the Gobi.
  5. I think the GEAX tyres fit Stan's Rims better than they fit American Classics - its a real battle with teh AC's.
  6. Always worth the trip
  7. Very sorry to hear that - at the ver least I hope you get the other bikes back and can prosecute the perps.
  8. http://www.bikewear.co.za is great if you know your size
  9. Please post a pic when its done
  10. I think around 1800g is fair for a "strong-enough" 29er wheelset...
  11. Spokes and nipples?

  14. Did the 40 last year - not hilly or technical (small hill towards the end).
  15. Little off topic but does anyone know where I can buy American Classic hubs - want to build them up on some Stans Arch EX rims. Cheers
  16. Oops - my bad
  17. No - don't think so Fair enough - looks like your current fork / setup is bothering you anyway
  18. I really don't think through axle's are a worthwhile upgrade i.t.o. either stiffness increases or weight savings. But, if you're buying new I don't see the harm in going to the new "standards" - unless you have an older wheelset that you want to use with hubs that can't be converted. BTW, I did the "conversion" on my AM Classics - very simple job - slide the QR "axle" out and the 15mm sleeve in. You do need 2 cone spanners though.
  19. If you're riding mostly XC / Trail then I think 20mm up front is overkill - especially now that Rock Shox are doing a 15mm Maxle Lite. No experience with through-axles on the rear though.
  20. Great - love the Alberts Farm section - much less crowded...
  21. Rocky Mountain
  22. Some other brands / bikes that spring to mind... - Ellsworth Truth (not carbon) - Yeti ASR-5 (alu or carbon) - Pivot Mach4 / 5.7 (think the 5.7 comes in carbon now?)
  23. Specialized seems to be missing from your lists?
  24. Couldn't agree more that cyclists should be more considerate - there is a lot of boorish behaviour happening at the moment. The Spruit, especially the Delta Park to Emmarentia section, has got crazily busy i.t.o. cyclist usage over the past 2 years. The parks are full of other people just trying to have a good time and bicycles and their pilots need to fit in and behave properly. BUT Why is it OK for dogs to be allowed off the leash and to chase cyclists with impunity - surely dog-owners have a responsibility to keep their animals under control (and pick up the doo-doo, which no-one ever does...) PS - I cycle through both parks regularly with my mates and my kids and also walk the dogs through Emmarentia so I understand both sides of this debate.
