  1. I pretty much fall into the fat(ter)-ass 90+kg category and I have had no issues with my AC so far. I bought the 2011 model so not sure if there have been some improvements to rim strength. Really enjoying them and they're very good value in the rand per gram calculation.
  2. Why worry about supporting CRC - just do it I don't think that anyone actually has the XT ice-tech 6 bolt rotots in stock though. Even CRC is only expecting them in stock between the 10th and 17th of August
  3. We're very lucky in this part of Jo'burg to ahve a number of excellent shops that provide such good service. I also had a very good experience there 2 days ago
  4. You should be OK if you go with the Stan's Flows rather than the Arches - slightly heavier but much stronger...
  5. You're right - it would only work for CSA sanctioned events. But the CSA-sanctioned events are the expensive ones and comprise the majority of reaces around the country. As to why students should get a discount and others not my answer would be that the goal of any sport should be to grow and develop - encouraging younger riders would support that objective I think a similar support system should be in place for school children as well.
  6. How about something like this: Require all students who want cheap entry fees to join the club at their university / technikon / college. Also create a "virtual" club for those institutions who do not have the resources to run this on their owm. Evidence of being a bona-fide student would be a valid Student Card from a registered institution (certified copy if necessary). Then do a deal with CSA to waive the CSA fee for all members of those clubs. CSA then issues a special "student" number (prefixed with an "S" for example) - valid for a year. Any entratnts with a CSA number prefixed with an S receive an X% discount on their entry fee...I am sure it would be relatively easy to attract sponsorships to help fund a system las described - students are a very attractive market due to their potenmtial future earnings.
  7. Does anyone have feedback on running the Ignitor on the front - thinking about buying some off CRC - it appears to have a more pronounced tread pattren than the Crossmarks and Monorails
  8. Those wheels are crazy! Wouldn't like to climb too far with them though...
  9. Wish they did an alcoholic soda - i.e. one with 29" wheels...
  10. +1 (But there are LOTS of bikes in the price bracket you're talking about) Try (in no particular order and only because they're all close to me) Mike Bikes (Greenside), Northcliff Cycles (Cresta), Linden Cycles, Dunkeld Cycles - I'm sure you'll receive good service and a fair price.
  11. Ask for your money back and try another LBS - it's not like there's a shortage in Jhb!
  12. Anthem X 29 is the best value at the moment (I'm biased because I have one!). As Splat says there are a number of fantastic-looking new bikes coming in 2012 - e.g. Scott (Spark 29), Cannondale (Scalpel 29) and Niner (Jet 9 Carbon) - if you can afford to wait and have the moolah
  13. Hazeldean tomorrow morning should be fun!
  14. I've tried all sorts and now settled on the ESI Chunky silicone grips - seem to fit my hands the best and they don't get as numb after a few hours.
  15. Tried the 29er TNT version for a few weeks and loved them - fast roilling and enough grip at teh right pressures. Problem is, I changed my wheels (to AM Classics) and could not get them on to the rims - broke about 4 tyre levers! Apparently this is quite a common problem both with eth AM Classics and Stans Rims.
  16. I couldn't find custom 29er options on CRC and the AC's looked like the best value for money of the factory choices. They definitely feel quicker then the stock wheels that came on my Anthem. As to durability / strength - time will tell...
  17. Planet-X / Rapide website - http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.za/pAMERICAN%20CLASSIC%2029ER%20DISC%20WHEELS%202011%20BUZZSAW%20WHI/American-Classic-29er-Disc-Wheels-2011-Buzzsaw-White.aspx I bought mine from them
  18. Saw some at Northcliff Cycles a few weeks ago
  19. Thanks Tavis
  20. So what did you replace the Geax tyres with - I have the same problem? Cheers
  21. Me too - the latest issue hasn't arrived. The Tread staff were very helpful but it does seem that there is a glitch in the system.
  22. Thanks Chubba
  23. Sorry for the hijack but which version of the Stans valves fit the American Classics - is it the Olympic valve?
  24. Thanks patches Yep - weight is a factor - but the Nuke proofs are slightly lighter than the Hopes, slightly cheaper and, by the sounds of it, much quieter!
