  1. Love the care shown for bar end protection - BigBen loves his bike!
  2. Sorry came late to this thread. But was this year's event open to non-SA bikes?
  3. Strange looking tandem......
  4. I last rode the CTCT in 2014. I remember it being quite windy, particularly just after the start as you went through an 'arch' of buildings. From those that were there y'day, was this the key problem area this year?
  5. That sucks for all concerned! I wonder what Jens is saying?
  6. ....whilst all the while muttering to yourself "overtaken by a jeep!" Sounds remarkably familiar to me!
  7. Good grief - just beautiful........
  8. As per endless other discussions on BikeHub, related to lower gearing for hills, the general consensus is that smaller gearing may make it easier for you to climb, but not necessarily faster. If this fits your riding style, then matching your team's climbing speed may not be helped by down gearing? So it's rule #5 for you! (But if you still want to run a 9-sp MTD RD on 10-sp STIs, then pop over to the Cyclocross thread and read further. The RD needs to be a pre Dyna-sys model - don't shoot me if I've been economical here!).
  9. Pure Savage reach a wider audience? http://www.bicycling.co.za/blogs/tale-cramps-champ-pure-savage-99er-race-report/
  10. That's a v nice pragmatic approach - thin-end-of-the-wedge stuff. Good luck with it!
  11. First electric motors, now hover bikes.........
  12. In general, consensus, scientific, or otherwise doesn't suggest right or its converse, particularly when it comes to things like multi-factorial risk assessment. After all, doesn't that character ('6 or 9'), from a certain perspective, look like the letter a?
  13. Not forgetting Natasha Richardson either......
  14. Some interesting stuff on wiki related to 'risk compensation', which has been related to bicycle & ski helmets, amongst others. I'd guess not fully comprehensive but interesting reading nevertheless...... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Risk_compensation
  15. Sadly, that drop-off catches a lot of people out......
  16. Should have named the Volvo, Mjolnir. Even harder to say after the DC! Edited for spelling! I can barely spell Mjolnir, never mind pronounce it!
  17. "If I'd known I was going to be so parched today, I would have drunk more last night.... "
  18. This on the other hand, is worth trying on a hot day..... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michelada
  19. Sadly every time I've tried a Naked Mexican, it was infected.......
  20. The return of the Ghost!
  21. Thanks for the feedback Rob.
  22. I wonder what the limitations actually are in taking the learnings from Argus and apply them to Riversands? Space? People? Something else? As I recollect Argus, it's essentially an area of starting pens, each with one inlet and one outlet, from which each start pen is separately led to a short queue in the start area? What am I missing in doing a copy-and-paste for Riversands?
  23. The Styx Six? Invulnerability guaranteed!
  24. Congrats to all! A mate of mine rode and finished 15 mins faster than he felt he was in shape for, but what do the statisticians say about the impact of the route changes on last year's course time?
