  1. sag is the amount the shock is depressed when you sitting in a normal position on the bike, the easiest way to measure this is to put a cable tie loosely around one of the stanchions, slide it down to the bottom and then climb on the bike, when you climb off you will see a gap between the cable tie and the wiper. this would be your sag. you can use the same idea to check the amount of travel you are using by going for a ride with the cable tie in place and checking where the cable tie is after the ride...... hope this helps.........

  10. its a good point you make. but i might be ignorant but till its proven that triathletes are dopers too i am going to hope/believe they are clean. the sad thing is as you will probably agree is, we as amateur athletes measure ourselves against the pros and usually think to ourselves... well i know i do "If only i had a couple more hours a day to train i could give these guys a go" but to think that they have an "ADDED" advantage would be devastating to me and i wonder if i would continue participating if this was proven
  11. Garfield, we were discussing doping in triathlons a while ago at one of the energade races because of the doping control that took place there and not one of us could remember ever hearing of a pro tri athlete being tested positive, i guess there will always be one or two but generally speaking i think tri is pretty clean

  20. they are expensive! best prices on Orca stuff is from www.fluidlines.co.za or troisports, to give you an idea i paid R2100 for my S3 wetsuit at troisport and its R2299 at sportsmans
  21. usually go for one size smaller than your road bike, its not really about agressive possition rather than the position of your arms on the tt bars...... your arms when resting on the bars are supposed to be at 90 degrees to your body so with a bigger frame you have to stretch out more to get into the time trail position, so i would rather go smaller than bigger
  22. very true foxy! any ideas where i can get a pair of white oakley split jackets locally?
  23. they are good but the shipping costs are terrible now R300 odd for door to door might as well buy the oakleys i want locally then

  25. GerhardC It is a very bad generalisationto say that ITBS starts in the glutes.... glutes is just one of many things that can cause ITBS such as quad and hamstring imbalances, pronation, bicycle setup etc etc etc. the thing is that ITBS doesn’t always occur in the knee it can cause pain in the hip as the Iliotibial band runs from the pelvis to the knee, the most common form of treatment is rest, anti-inflammatory agents ( Cataphlam worked well for me) ITBS or also known as ITBFS due to the fact that the pain is caused by friction of the ITB usually over the lateral femoral epicondyle hence the pain in the lateral part of the knee. Stretching and strenghening of muscles if an imbalance is present. The foam roller is probably the most painful method to use but in my opinion is the most successful, rolling the entire length of the ITB works really well, Surgery is a last resort IMO although it might be the quickest way to get rid of ITBS as anyone will tell you that has had it before it’s a long term injury that takes a really long time to get rid of. So my advice in a nutshell would be, get to the cause of the injury, an assesment by a Biokeneticist is probably the best option, as going to a GP will probably land you in the no training for 6 weeks group
