  1. Have you been given an indication of what it will cost? Yip as mentioned already, fork maintenance is important, you either do it regularly(as recommended) or you do it in one big go(very expensive as there is usually excessive wear on your expensive parts caused by parts that a relatively cheap to replace). I would as a matter of interest ask you LBS what the replacement price of that fork is, that should help you decide. Yes it should be good as new with all parts replaced.
  2. @Chris Meck great job on the trails, did the 20km race a few years back and attempted the 45km this year, really awesome surroundings and great trails. @BearManGuy you will enjoy this, was looking at the trails last night...we will have fun.
  3. I had RR on my new bike, after 150km I changed to Conti XKing/Race King, find the Conti way better, but that's not what the OP was about, sorry haven't tried the Icon, so can't say, but not really happy with RR
  4. I don't have any input at this stage other than it sounds like a fantastic idea to do a series.
  5. @Stretch where would that be? I ride motorbikes, but do find it frustrating when guys blatantly ride where they're requested(told) not to.
  6. There was one at Karkloof this year, so possibly another one there for 2013. There will hopefully be a couple more.
  7. I bought some DMR V12 from dial'd bikes, I'm happy with them.
  8. RETARDS!!Not Cool, glad nothing worse happened.
  9. Please explain the difference...
  10. Thanks for that info, I saw that one in Jan on the calendar, unfortunately I won't make that event, got a date with some snow in France in that week. But will definitely be on the lookout for future events.
  11. @nigelhicks how many events would you foresee being planned for 2013? From the KZNMTB calendar it looks like there are 2 so far. I've done some reading on the format and it looks great, hope it really gains some popularity and gives people more options with regards to riding in SA.
  12. LOL @patches No a piece of cardboard into the spokes fixed onto the fork with a clothes peg
  13. Had mine changed to motorcycle style, my old hardtail(cable brakes) was this way. I think the reason for left front right rear is so the shifters and brakes match for the same side.
  14. Racing Ralph 2.1 is 54mm wide Conti 2.2 is 55mm wide
  15. No need to replace the rear, your tyre widths don't have to match, theoretically the tyre you've fitted is 0.1 of an inch wider than the old tyre.

    I'm 1.78m on a Merida 120 medium.
  17. Mike's pass was impossible on sunday(for me at least) @Stretch, why was it that you got your own tents? My partner and I are looking at Great Trek for next year as well. Had an awesome experience this year.
  18. @splat how does the formula work for a 1x9?
  19. LOL, no further comments.

  21. Thanks @patches for clearing that up
  22. Forgive me if this has already been asked and addressed, 3x10 vs 2x10, I see a lot of AM bikes running the 2x10, the highest and lowest ratios are normally quite close to an equivalent 3x10. Can anyone tell me what the main purpose for eliminating one front chainwheel/sprocket, other than weight reduction.
  23. Really sad and gruesome sounding scene. Condolences to the families and friends of those who died. When it comes to collisions with trains, I'd be rather interested in hearing what exactly would be considered safe and proper transport. IMO, the safest would be the one that has an operator/driver who is very cautious and aware of his/her surroundings.
  24. This can be a problem, I've heard of lots of people complain about power and consumption of diesel motors, but they drive them incorrectly. I think currently when comparing capacity for capacity the diesels still give better torque/consumption figures.
  25. Sad news, especially if he was the only breadwinner in the household. Condolences to the family. I've often thought what the costs would be of providing seperate(where possible) bicycle paths, as you would find across a lot europe, to help make bicycle transport safer.
