I had to replace a crank on a saturday quite late, thought I had right tools at home, but turns out I didn't. They not only kept the shop for an additional hour, they had to cut new threads for the a new BB as the factory that built my bike stuffed it up, they were also cheaper with that crank than I had seen anywhere, even with a google search while in their store. They charged me R150 to stay open and cut new threads.. I can't say I was anything but impressed.

I would've told you I got attacked by a T-rex whilst out saving someone from drowning in this terrible weather, then I had to assist with chopping the T-rex to pieces after it died magnificently in combat with me..

I was in the same boat not too long ago - I bought a GT karakoram and have since upgraded the brakes, the wheelset, the saddle and the fork.. So, buy decent the first time to save from all the upgrades.

Average of 11km/h? That is ok'ish if you're just starting out, also if the area is really hilly, also perhaps if the wind was pummeling you, maybe you were doing all off road rather than tar? Too many variables to really say if it was a good speed or not.
