  1. Delgado: Take the N3 highway to Durban ... Between 5-10 km (I think) after the Alberton turn-offs (could even be the Vosloorus turnoff); there is an off-ramp that indicates "Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve" At the top of the bridge turn right and about 5-8km further you will see the reserve on your left ....
  2. typical south africans ... moaning about everything that cost money. good for the guys that paid the bucks and went on a ride ... those who could not go (for what ever reason) do not justify the cost for those who went ... think about it ... if it was for free ... the argus entry limit would have been exceeded!!!
  3. epoh ... I can try n attempt 2 loops ... but an ascent of 1200m for 1 loop may not allow me to do the 2nd. can we also get the puffadder family to go with? (Jason and Michelle)
  4. Anyone interested in joining me for 1 loop around Suikerbosrand? Start early, around 7h15 as the gates open at 7h00. Obviously weather permitting!
  5. The team manager is DAVE WISEMAN from NATAL.
  6. Bateleur1: You summarised the road problem in this sentence. quote "Almost everyone nowadays thinks he has rank over everybody else on the road." It possibly started with TAXI's; these days people (not all of them) with good careers; flashy cars; expensive houses, believes they "own" the road ... unfortunately these attitude comes along when these "individuals" gets on their bicycles as well!!!! Hence why you get people in 4x4's; R500K cars believes it is OK to drive and talk on their cell phones ... not obeying the LAW means you disrespect the country you live in as well as you fellow human being .....
  7. Back to basics ... MUTUAL respect ... This is a typical cyclists who will have the same attitude when he drive his car ..... It is this type of attitude that gets innocent cyclist killed ....
  8. where can u buy FiT and who is the manufacture / distributor?
  9. Fellow cyclists ... I truely believe that you do not defuse a situation this way!! Surely (and I am not attacking you Mud Dee) the title of this topic express arrogance, which is possibly what Deon Maas wants to achieve, upsetting the cyclists? As we know who the person is, why not humbly approach him and try and get to his senses that both cyclists and motorist have to share the same road, both respecting each other and comprimise .... Let him understand also that sometime he will have either a family member, a friend, or someone he loves, doing cycling .... and then have the attitude he expresses in a paper! If we can get this through to these "cyclists haters" I think we as cyclists have achieved something. Please..just my opinion!! I believe in mutual respect and that this lovely planet is here to he shared amongst everyone; otherwise what is the use believing, living, respecting, breathing???
  10. Widget: If you take out a license, you only satisfying your club and cycling buddies!!! Do what you feel is right. I was in similar situations previously ... way back in 1995 when I quit cycling ... then in 1999 I started Radio Control and now I am tired of RC ... now cycling is appealing to me and started again last year. It appears a 5-7 year cycle with a specific hobby works well ... u can always do the odd ride and maybe consider riding in the open categories??
  11. AuctionLamb: Depending on your budget! If it is limitless go for an European Frame; if not go for a Far-East frame. I find European Frames to be very expensive (Eddy Mercx; Pinnarello; Colnago etc.). However there is no compromise when it comes to quality. Frame also last a few decades. Generally European Frames come in around R20K upwards. Any Taiwanese frames comes in much cheaper (whether carbon or alu). Quality is not bad either but I am not sure whether it will last? Frame prices are between R7k - R15K
  12. Is Gerhard Genis still active?
  13. what is the average speed the top bunch is doing around Killarney? (mild SE tho.)
  14. Interesting to see that Yolandi conversed in English; although I am sure she would have loved to speak in Afrikaans ... Robbie Hunter; Ronel van Wyk to mention a few has no issue answering in the language the question was posed ..ppp Valid question on the hub is surely if Marissa travels Europe ... she aint talking Afrikaans to people in Europe? Agree also with other hubbers; yes it is her right to talk/answer in a language of her choice; but have respect for Phil Liggett and company ...
  15. Remember the old saying: "Stick and stones will break my bones, but names will never hurt me"
  16. Why is it always when a thread starts ... it becomes a personal fight amongst other hubbers off the topic? Back to basics CYCLISTS/HUBBERS .... MUTUAL respect .... I am raising kids and the way the hubbers express themselves ... I do not know in which training group they must train?
  17. 78.1 km/h
  18. Although the elite group is much stronger; consider the uphill at the end; whereas the finish was a fast decent last year. But with the elite cracking Telkom Satelite with and average of 44km/h; then anything is possible, depending on the day.
  19. Another suggestion: Maybe the finish line should have been a "finish banner" accross both lanes. This would have allowed both lanes to be used for sprinting ... meaning also no barriers and/or cones were necessary then?
  20. Interesting to see a "registered rider" such as Shammy_Rash not blaming the organisers. I view that the crash is not something anybody wants; both organisers and cyclist ... but find it rather disappointing when people here on the hub shows (at times) arrogant behaviour/comments and jumps down hubber's throats .... Mutual respect goes a long way!! The organisers and people making this event happen dedicate sometime their personal time ... do we ever think that they were not even aware of safety rules / aspects around racing? We sometimes take these for granted.
  21. Good one Scotty!
  22. Jason: Maybe you should look at the fastest time / route ever recorded?
  23. Spinnekop: Point taken! Possibly, at my age, why I do not want to compete in the registered groups.
  24. Just my 5 cents worth ... Like Skinny said, 300m to the finish ... why does leadout guys sitting to the edge ... i see 2 lanes clear .. come on guys ... u suppose to "PRO's" even the leaders should have taken cognise of the cones going to cause problems .... Also with CSA .. is there no "safety" officer that should have seen this problem at the finish; and rectified the problem well in advance?
