  1. It's not just the scalpers, can also lay blame to the idiots willing to pay the ridiculous prices. Silicon shortage is screwing everyone over. Starting to see it impact a ton of industries you would not normally expect it in.
  2. Hated the aussie accent before I started watching this. It's hilarious, so much better than suits imo. Main Character is a proper gemors though
  3. Dunno how you guys feel about animations. But recently watched the Dota animation and Invincible. If you were a fan of The Boys, Invincible should be right up your alley. Both quite good and surpassed any expectations I had for them.
  4. loving this thread, but lately I've been binging Silicon Valley. Even if you don't work in IT there are some seriously hilarious moments.
  5. Hey guys, I'm looking to sell my bike, I don't want to but circumstances are forcing me to. Hope this thread is appropriate to ask on. It's a KTM Duke 790, is there any other places on could look at private sales other than gumtree, junkmail and fb marketplace? Getting a lot of scammers and people wasting my time. Edit - Webuycars and fireitup are last resort as they offered me around 50k less than what the bikes are going for 2nd hand.

    Archery.

Will post pics this weekend. Had a rough march, shoulder issues from a past injury started flaring up again, so been focusing on rehab Ordered myself some high and med density foam to make a training buttress, so should get that set up this weekend so I can work in a few shots at work to practice my form
  7. To add to this, try to get your HR or power zones and train within the correct zones. Otherwise find a decent hill taking +- 10min near to you that's not too steep, set a time at +- 70% RPE and repeat until you can't hit your time anymore. Everyone adapts to stimuli differently, but in general gym or intervals would be your best bet. Edit - If you do gym, read up on the reps. I can't remember the exact amounts, but different repetitions at % of max weight will yield different results. Ideally you should be looking at strength and muscle endurance, not hypertrophy.
  8. I did the marble bath overnight hike a long time ago. How busy is it lately and is it still a nice overnight hike? Will check out Monks Cowl and Keith Bush Camp as well
  9. What are some decent slack packing hiking trails? I've done a few more serious hikes, but I'd like to take my partner on one. She's never done an overnight hike. Initially I was thinking about going to the Drakensberg and camping at one of the sites there and going for a 2 day hike there and heading back. But I think the slack packing might be a better approach.

Got my recurve yesterday. It's not a big name brand, chinese import, the riser is a magnesium alloy and it is an ILF bow, so can gradually buy better limbs etc. But I think it's fine to get started with. If I do well and decide to get more serious I can always look at something better later on. Just need to finish tweaking it, work on my form and then I should be good to go. Having tons of fun so far
  11. Found a pretty interesting search engine that is looking to do some good. They donate a large percentage of their profits to initiatives that mainly involve planting trees, amongst others. Their financial reports are available to view on the website. https://www.ecosia.org/ They are still a little lacking when compared to google, but this is easily remedied by just adding #g at the end of your search parameter. Looks like a very easy way to support someone doing some good for the planet.
  12. Crypto is interesting to me. Been doing a lot of reading on it and decided to put some throwaway cash into bitcoin and ADA. I don't believe bitcoin is too late to get into, and Cardano has a very positive looking roadmap which should yield very profitable returns in the future. I still don't understand much of crypto, but because it is tech based I find it easier to learn that stocks and so forth. And for the folks using easy equities and want an intro to crypto, EC10 looks to have been performing very well the past 6months. That being said, I did a lot of research before spending my cash and realize that trading is a little like educated gambling.

Where does your nock sit on the barebow? Do you have the arrow placed more or less eye level when you're anchored or is it at your fingers? As per the image?
  14. I made some this weekend with a marinade sent to me from a friend living in Xi'an, they love their spices so it's pretty hot. But basically, ginger, garlic, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, chillies (sliced or paste) as well as chilli oil, sugar, sherry (the wine they use in china is hard to find here), lemon juice ( I added some zest as well), spring onions. They use more spicy chillies which I'm not a fan of personally, prefer flavor over burn, so bought some poblano from Azteca and just toasted them first. Left the marinade overnight then coated in some flower and fried in olive oil. It came out pretty good, will need to play with the oil used. Was pretty good, would still need to play around to see how to tie this into a full meal, but I can definitely use this or similar in a "vegan" meal day. Another thing I'm quite keen to try is the chinese steamed buns, while I was in Shanghai I had a mushroom stuffed Sheng Jian Bao, which was amazing. You basically just fold them like you would a dumpling, fry them, then when the bases are done, add a little water, drop the heat and put a lid over the pan to steam them till done.
  15. See this is interesting, I'm always skeptical when reading about issues like this because 99% of the content you find is not written from a neutral perspective. Which makes it hard to see is this being blown up out of proportion, or is it actual fact. Thanks, I'll do some further reading up. Also need to understand what free range actually means for things like cows and chickens when it comes to eggs and milk.
  16. If I may ask, why are animal derived byproducts not allowed by the plant based diets? Like wool which can be harvested(i think that is the correct word?) without harm to the sheep, or cheese and other diary products which can be obtained without suffering? Is it to do with the below point Wayne made? The reason I ask is this is fundamental to my argument that we are not more important than others. We need to coexist. The notion that animals are "given" to us for consumption goes against veganism.
  17. Greed is a hell of a drug.
  18. Maybe given is the wrong word, as I do not mean it from a belief POV. If I may rephrase as my idea/intent in the statement remains the same - it is a privilege to take from nature and doing so should be done responsibly. Humans are generally smarter than animals, whether you believe in a Deity that placed you here, in evolution or prometheus creating you on the down low, we as humans have a responsibility to look after the earth. Christianity believes mankind was created to have dominion over the animal kingdom. I was raised Christian so I think that might be where my wording came from. Doesn't offend, don't stress
  19. Thanks, I'm glad I could share my personal views with everyone here. Hopefully I did not offend anyone as that was not my intent in any way. I know I've learnt something, even though we still disagree, I definitely do understand more about the lifestyle. There were small things that I never understood and thought it was just people being snobs (like leather) but in whats been said I understand why. At the end of the day we can all disagree, dislike and what ever else we want to feel, but people with differing mindsets will eventually need to get together to resolve the issues both groups face. And understanding both sides goes a long way to paving that road.
  20. 1st bold statement: I believe I've answered my reasons for this bit(I can elaborate if needs be), others will obviously have their own, with which I personally may or may not agree. 2nd bold statement: I don't know on the fascination bit. I'd love for a psych study to be done so we can see if there is a fundamental difference in humans as there is with the whole fight vs flight gene, or if it is environmental factors that cause us to differ. ie my dad is fine with hunting and I grew up that way thus I am fine with it.
  21. May I ask what was your personal reason for going plant based? The tree bit is interesting as I've never seen that happen, however could you not argue that plants are sentient? The word means this: Sentience is the capacity to be aware of feelings and sensations. By your experience the plant one over is aware of the feelings/sensations experienced by the previous plant and acted accordingly. I disagree with the ethical killing bit. As I understand it, ethics are driven by morals. Your moral values tell you it's wrong to kill an animal. Mine say it's fine when it meets these conditions. Ethics dictate the way in which you carry that out. Morally I could be fine with killing an animal, but ethically I could be fine with say lets trap/use poison or any method that is cruel and causes suffering. When you look at the method, a correctly placed bullet is an ethical/humane method as far as death is concerned. As far as the rest of your post goes. I agree mostly. It is our responsibility to look after what we are given and when we take from nature we need to do it in a responsible way. Your beliefs dictate that killing for sustenance is wrong, mine say as long as it is done within reason. I'm in this thread for the 3rd reason . I want to incorporate more plant based meals into my diet, just not do the full switch.
  22. It could also instill a false sense of confidence. You could end up taking riskier shots. From a point of view where you are 100% responsible and don't take risks, then yes, I suppose it is better for the animal because there is less chance of it happening. But IMO then it's not hunting, rather shooting. And you can do that on a range. I shoot with a stick rest, to make sure I place my shot where I want it to be. I bought a stick to ensure minimal risk of wounding. I'm still very conflicted about bow hunting so can't really give an opinion there, but knives and spears are illegal for hunting game, not sure about the legalities and so forth on fishing.
  23. This brings in the great debate of the animal intelligence I suppose. Do animals understand ethics and morality? I don't think so. There are no observable ethics or morality in the animal kingdom that I know of, only instinct. Regarding what I believe to be the difference, with a stalk you are giving the animal a fair chance. They can hear see or smell you and take the opportunity to get away. vs with a bakkie you shooting from 200m out, in a perfect position, with stable rests and time to set up etc.
  24. This topic becomes a very hard thing to answer. Especially when you're put in the spot light . So if I may, to understand your views. Where do you draw the line as to what is acceptable and isn't. Is the views on killing limited to mammals? Things with intelligence? What is the difference between killing a fly and a buck? If you spray doom in your house you can see the fly fall and you can see them twitch, is that nerves fading or pain? Insects are considered animals but the majority of people kill them without a second thought. Plants react to stimuli and pain, if you garden you can generally see in a few plants when you trim it how they react to the stimuli. Where is the line drawn with what is acceptable to kill vs what isn't? When it comes to meat, we can be realistic and say the industry is cruel. What does woolworths do different when they say they are sow friendly, or free range or any other "animal friendly" meat in the store. All those animals are raised to be slaughtered as Eldron mentioned, yet because they are available 24/7 in a shop it makes it better than hunting? As I said in my first post on this topic, the label is tricky. Maybe there is a psychological side to why people hunt, but I am fairly certain in saying I am comfortable in taking the life of a deer (as it's been put here) with my mindset and my moral/ethical views and still saying I love animals. I've mentioned in a previous post that change is necessary for the world to improve and thats part of why I hunt and fish, it's not done for sport and I take no more than is needed. I agree with the post Chris made, saying I view animals as commodities, and in a sense yes, but I also do love them. It's just extremely hard for me to verbalize why. And I think the difference comes in from the questions above is where you draw the line as to what is acceptable for you and what isn't. For you it may be acceptable to eradicate all insects in your house, but for me it is fine to shoot 1 or 2 buck a year to eat. There are a lot of things when it comes to vegetarianism that I do not agree with. That may be due to ignorance or misunderstanding. But I could pose the question how could you call yourself an animal lover when farming is eradicating habitats, or buying that new iPhone has materials in it that are mined in a way that renders the area unusable for a long long time thereafter.
  25. I'd prefer to not further derail this thread which I'm really enjoying by discussing vastly differing views. This is after all the veganism thread and I commented on a response to the animal lover thing. If you'd like to discuss further, you're more than welcome to PM me so I can try to explain my views more clearly in a constructive chat.
