  1. My neighbour sold his car and rides his bike everywhere and doesn't wear a helmet. He has a child seat on his bike and rides his granddaughter all over the place. She doesn't wear a helmet and it really bugs me. She doesn't have a chance if he falls. I gave him a helmet for her and lectured him about the importance of wearing one. I really hope she wears it.
  2. Completely off topic, but it is so good to see someone else bringing a new sedan to the market. I just wish there was a bigger range and a cheaper model on offer.
  3. I've seen them advertised on the Hub for about R1000, but personally, I wouldn't pay more than a few hundred Rand. Not sure if someone actually paid R1k for them. They are pretty old, maybe 15 to 20 years. You cannot get spokes for them. But they seem to be pretty tough.
  4. I suppose this would depend on the insurer. There is a note in my policy that states that they have the right to repair where they feel fit and they have no obligation against future values or warrantees.
  5. If you are going to drop R180k on a bike, then you should get something that you really want. If Colnago is the bike you wanted, then hang on for your order to arrive. It will be worth the wait. Don't buy a bike now just for the sake of it.
  6. I am still a rim brake advocate, but I have come to realise that you cannot argue with progression. So, as much as it pains me to say this, I would go disc.
  7. I am in PE. There are one or two guys doing carbon work around here.
  8. I am seriously pedantic and don't like a scratched frame. I am considering a respray too. Just a few too many nicks and scratches. But I only paid R1k with a shock. So I think it was a bargain.
  9. Thanks guys, I found a video on YouTube where a guy used some kind of metal putty. I am not convinced this will work. Pratley metal putty is too brittle for this. I may give the epoxy a try. I also know of a guy that lives in my suburb that does carbon repairs (mostly automotive), I could ask him as well.
  10. I recently purchased a 26inch, full carbon Volcan frame. There is more than enough room for a 27.5 inch wheel, however, the carbon on the drive side drop out has worn. Whenever I put pressure on the pedals, the wheel simply moves in the frame, it pulls the wheel to the left and it rubs against the chainstay (it's a QR wheel). I have managed to temporarily fit a spacer in there, which has sorted the problem for now. I want something more permanent. What are my options? 1. Get a carbon fibre person to build up the dropout? 2. Get some body to machine a sleeve? 3. Try and source a new triangle? I doubt I'll get one though. 4. Any other option (besides a new frame)?
  11. BgearA is right. The Silverback is just plain ugly.
  12. It would have been great advice if it wasn't for the opening sentence and last sentence.
  13. He is asking a question. Isn't that what the Bike Hub is for? Bike Hub might as well close down if we all had to do our own research.
  14. I remember at one point people were talking about using sour milk as a sealent. Pepper doesn't surprise me.
  15. The opposite holds true. Found a guy selling a set of nice mtb wheels on Facebook. I send him a message asking him what size they were. He responds with... They are standard size wheels that come with a standard size bike.
  16. Where is the event being held?
  17. It's been a while since I have been following the follies of the CSA. Have they got their act together?
  18. Turn your bike upside down and check the saddle from below and look for cracks in the main body. A cracked saddle creaks.
  19. If it's a GT Avalanche, the fork is probably a Suntour coil shock of sorts. Not sure what is wrong with yours, but these are very easy to fix. Sometimes all they need is a good clean inside and some lubing/grease.
  20. It's a good time to learn a new skill. I have the mechanical knowledge of a frog, but managed to figure it out and I've built a couple of bikes now. It's easier than you think. You'll find lots of YouTube videos to help. Give it a go
  21. There is definitely a market for this type of bike, but it is a small market. I would guess about R2k to R2.5k for the bike alone. All the other gear sounds expensive, but not sure of its value. You can advertise it on the Hub, but your typical hub user is not likely to buy this type of bike. But you never know. Facebook market place is probably your best bet.
  22. It's a touring bike, not a mountain bike. Octolink BB, threaded headsets, spring forks and brake/shifters combined are not negatives. It's what you need for its intended purpose.
  23. Thanks, it makes sense. I have also seen this number on Suntour forks too.
  24. I notice a lot of forks have a number on the side, usually a 32. What does this mean? Is it the travel in inches?
