  1. Will be 100 % safe. It is a short pedal to your Hotel, going down Main rd (even got a cycle path for part of the way). In any case, there will be lots of cyclist around, going to and from the Stadium / Expo, so you will almost never be on your own.
  2. Not even Uber (too expensive) R10.00 buys you a one way trip to V&A / Greenpoint with any one of the hundreds of minibus taxis around. edit: The Hotel might even have a courtesy bus driving up and down to Greenpoint stadium.
  3. Jip, heard about it too. Even saw picture of perp laying in the street. Glock 17 "one up" between her legs, double tapped him two in the head. How accurate this is, I dunno. Is about the gist of it.
  4. I see you are staying in Cape Town. Then you should know the only way to get an accurate weather prediction, is to stick your head out the window / door to see what the weather is like, and even then it can change within the next hour. Don't put any faith in these long term predictions, especially weather 24's.
  5. Doing number 17 this year, and as you rightly say, the excitement is already starting to build.
  6. All depending on the interest. I used to put a ride like this together, but for the last few years the response was poor. It did not warrant me driving from the Northern Burbs for a 35km ride and a coffee, so I canned it. But on the Saturday, there are literaly thousands of guys doing this, so you'll always have company on the ride.

    MotoGP

FIRST SUPERBIKE RACE OF 2019, AND IF THIS WEEKENDS RESULTS ARE ANYTHING TO GO BY, A NEW KING WILL BE CROWNED BY END OF THE YEAR. (sorry about cap locks, not gonna type this lot over. ) Bautista beat Rea by 17 seconds in final race, being a second a lap quicker than the rest. That new Duc is fast, and handles like it's on rails. Good to see the Yamaha's are on pace, so early in the season. Bodes well for the competition to occupy the 2nd and 3rd spots on the podium.
  8. Been using the same set of Evil Eyes since 2004. Only had to replace one arm when somebody knocked my glasses out of my hands after a race, and then somebody else stepped on it before I could pick it up. Was cheap to replace. Since my eyes are quite "steady", I'm still using the original set of inserts. Only thing fairly expensive is replacement lenses. I wanted to get a set of clear lenses for night riding, but balked at the quoted price (and this was a few years ago)
  9. Says the guy that did a sub 3 on his first try. HEATHEN......
  10. Just shows you, CoCT are spending their alotted budget for roadworks/road infrastructure improvements.
  11. Great Wall my China was one of my highlights, together with the Umko Drop. The sight of the long line of riders ascending "The Wall" and then the incredible views over the valley below when you get to the top, was amazing. And then also to be able to ride on top of the mountain, with cliffs mere feet away from you, still gives me goosebumps.
  12. I got a serious case of the morbs / fomo. Must make a plan to do it again in 2020. Do not go too hard the first two days through the Freestate, the real nice riding only start on day Three on wards. You will find you gets stronger as the days goes on, and on day 9 you will be slightly depressed, because you want more of the awesome riding.
  13. Expect the best 9 days on a bike, of your life.
  14. Off course, just slipped my mind. But alas, that will have to wait, as I'm not the winner of the R232 131 750.69.
  15. Done already. Should I win, in my garage you will find the following Nissans. 1) Pulsar GTiR 2) 200SX S13 Stock standard 3) 200 SX S13 with S15 nose transplant (known as a Strawberry Face) Fully built, stroked and kitted SR20VET motor, with all the mods. 3) R32 Skyline GTiR 4) R33 Skyline GTiR 5) R34 Skyline GTiR 6) R35 GTiR with a few mods 7) And the list goes on ( 160Z, 240Z, 260Z, 280Z, etc.....) If you have not realised yet, I'm a bit of a Nissan fanboy.
  16. Should I ever win the Lotto, this will be top of my vehicle buying list.
  17. Yes, less "compression" between cable outers and stops when shifting, and then also a maintenance issue, dirt cannot enter the outers as easily, so longevity and shifting performance benefits.
  18. I had a 1x10 conversion on my hardtail. Sunrace 11-46 cassette, 32T NW chainring. Sram X0 medium derailer. Only had to fit a longer B screw, and to get it dialed in was a bit fiddly. Once it was dialed in though, it was smooth sailing. To aid in shifting performance even more, I "converted" to a continuous housing and cable setup, drilled my cable stops out to feed the cable through. (old frame, no warranty's to be voided) Did the J2C with this setup, and had no problems.
  19. Dadbod, I hear you. But when you approach a group of riders from behind, and they ride next to each other for a prolonged time / distance, there is obviously no overtaking taking place, or no swerving out for road traffic/debris happening. This is when you will get called out, not whilst overtaking slower riders or avoiding obstacles. But this is just me, cannot vouch for the other similarly frustrated cyclist out there.
  20. A bit off topic, but you can see the "panic training" (me included ) that's going on after the release of the seedings, with a lot of cyclists on the road. Going up Chappies from Noordhoek side, it looked like a race was in progress, with lot's of guys riding as if there was full road closure for them. There was quite a big number of guys from a certain Cycling Club (blue kit) that was riding like real tjops. They were riding in little "clumps", sometimes up to 4 abreast. Going past the "boom" at the foot of Little Chappies, they were hogging the whole road. I saw them as we approached from behind, and they were riding like that even when passing Cafe Roux /The Foodbarn where there is a wide Yellow Line verge. Calling them out to ride single file had no effect, just the normal barrage of abuse thrown at you. It was like this the whole way up Chappies, little clumps of blue kitted riders, riding 3-4 abreast. Now I'm not the fastest climber out there, but I managed to catch and pass a lot of them, and behaving the same way. And before I get abused about this, I'm in process of trying to contact their Club Chairman, to report their riding behavior to him. And then not to talk about the skipping of red traffic lights, all the way from the first one in Camps-bay, right up to Granger Bay. The guys even squeeze past/through the stationary cyclist at the red lights, just to ghost through.
  21. Going up Ou Kaaps from Westlake side, the wind almost blew me to a standstill a few times. Was hard work going up. After that, Chappies was a "breeze"
  22. Well, the guys lurking in the shade was brave enough to tackle 5 x mountain bikers not too long ago. (although they did come of 2nd best)
  23. I will strongly advise about going up there alone. And with the SE blowing, a lot of the bluegum branches breaks off and lands in the roadway, so you will have to dodge them (and the ones still hanging from the tree by a sliver of bark)
  24. Western Cape has some of the highest tariffs in the country. Saw that when I bought some prepaid for my kids in Rustenburg, they get almost a third more than what we do here.
  25. Not likely. But thanks for the vote of confidence.
