  1. Well, it's no secret that I only have two words to say ... Heinrich Brussow. He has no equal in SA rugby. But I'll tell you something, Deon Fourie is not far behind. I'd rather have him at 6 than 2 for the Stormers. And on current form, Pretorius must be the in form 9. Hope Cheetahs can take some momentum into the domestic end of the campaign. Their biggest problem thus far has been the breakdown, and a fit Brussow seems could sort that one out. Now if only Goosen can finish a game at 10 and regain some of his former glory. He's got too much talent to ignore him. Not that Elgar Watts is doing anything wrong.
  2. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I've used these words before, but I am most grateful when these farming communities open their hearts and gates for us riders. And there were like 4 water tables over the last 20km of the 63km route. Keeping up the rear, I felt so bad that they'd been waiting for me that I stopped at each table. I'll definitely be back.
  3. Gives new meaning to "worth its weight in gold".
  4. How about this for good measure? https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/138734-do-not-try-this-at-home/
  5. PPA website says starting times "from 08h00".
  6. Not sure if this has been posted before. Insane. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=685741498150994&set=vb.100001454510814&type=2&theater
  7. Is that a rhetorical question?
  8. Didn't BigH go to Canada? No wait - that was Aliwal North.
  9. Actually got a PM from him this morning. He's in SA for a few weeks from Canada. I'll point him to this thread.
  10. I know ...
  11. I was confronted with two choices - prosthetic elbow with full use or reconstructive surgery and limited use. I opted for the latter because a prosthetic elbow has a shelf life.
  12. In my case I don't have to act.
  13. Wishing the injured rider a rapid and full recovery. It was on Easter Monday in 2006 that I broke my elbow in three places doing Mamba. Four operations later that same year, and I still carry the emotional scars and have a gammy elbow.
  14. Do you get to the top of Dorstberg on that machine? Huge respect if you do. I can hardly do it in granny gear.
  15. Have to agree with the last few posts. My wife and I did the first one two years ago and thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and the luxury of staying in the hotel. A great weekend and worth the money spent. Would I do it again? No. Better value to be had elsewhere.
  16. Indeed. Target market as a subset of the whole market.
  17. Canned hunt gone wrong? That's sad.
  18. I'll be giving the 63km a try. Thanks for the warning about the river crossing ... will have to put my Continuous Glucose Monitor into a waterproof pouch.
  19. Hoogekraal X 3. Lastminutedotcom training for Sani ...
  20. Seems our replies crossed on the interwebs ...
  21. I echo what others have said, but will add that there are one or two A-frame wooden bridges which can be intimidating for a beginner, so rather dismount if unsure and walk them. Remember you need a bit of momentum (not reckless speed!) and an easy gear to get over the bridges confidently. A very special place to cycle.
  22. Insurance. Expensive when you pay the premiums. Cheap when you need it. Just make sure you read and understand the small print, e.g. exclusions, technical specs, conditions, etc.
  23. I thought that in sport the only colours that count are gold, silver and bronze. Seems I'm mistaken.
  24. Indeed. Bit like eeny, meeny, miny, moe. To answer the OP, intervals twice a week (one day rest in between - maybe tempo) and LSD (4 -5 hours) on either Sat and/or Sun. This is what I'm doing at the moment, as I'm also way behind: Mon REST Tue Intervals (4 X 4 mins at max effort for full interval. Try reach LT for as long as possible.) Wed Tempo or Recovery Thu Intervals (6 X 2 mins at max effort for full interval. Try reach LT for as long as possible) Fri REST Sat LSD (5 hours) Sun Tempo or Climbing
  25. Don't underestimate the value of a brand, and the amount of money that goes into creating that value. Large companies with high brand value on balance sheet and based on customer loyalty, will go to any extreme to protect their brand. And small opportunists will do anything to position their brands close to the bigger and better known brands. Bicycles, sports clothes, FMCG, fast food, etc.. Think of the recent debacle in South Africa with the Polo (clothing) brand. Bet you that a few consumers felt short-changed that their beloved Polo shirt was actually made in SA and wasn't from the beloved Ralph Lauren stable.
